Russia wants UN to discuss Israeli attack on Freedom Flotilla

Russian premier Vladimir Putin has said that his country wants the UN to investigate the Israeli military attack on the Freedom Flotilla in the international waters while heading with a humanitarian cargo to Gaza Strip.

Putin on Tuesday lashed out at Israel for its attack on the peaceful aid convoy that led to the killing of nine Turks and the injury of tens others, expressing concern that the attack was in international waters.

Addressing a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Recep Erdogan on the sidelines of a security summit, Putin said that Moscow would raise the issue at the UN, adding that he discussed the issue in detail with Endogen.

Turkey wants an independent investigation committee under UN supervision to probe the attack. However, Israel is rejecting the proposal.

Erdogan reached UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon over the telephone on Sunday on the same matter as the UN human rights council adopted a decision almost a week ago supporting the formation of an international investigation committee.

Meanwhile, Palestinian justice minister in Gaza Mohammed Al-Ghoul reached his Turkish counterpart over the telephone on Tuesday and offered assistance in prosecuting the Israeli occupation authority for its bloody attack on the flotilla and the solidarity activists, the majority of whom were Turks.

Ghoul offered condolences over the death of nine Turks in the IOF attack, and at the same time lauded the Turkish government and people for their support for the Palestine cause.
