Sri lanka — The Jaffna Grand Mosque was reopened for the Muslim community yesterday (1 June) after 20 years.
The Dutch-built mosque, which dates from 1713, was abandoned in 1990 as the separatist LTTE drove Muslims away from the Northern Province .
According to Ucan News website, the May 28 re-opening ceremony was attended by 50 other religious officials from the North and East.

Jamia-al-Mustafa, a notable seminary of Lahore on Tuesday organized at seminar to mark the death anniversary of Imam Khomeini (RA).
Speaking at the seminar, Allama Sayyid Husain Ali Najafi, Head of Jamia-al-Mustafa seminary said that Islam has been encountering several crisis since its beginning, today also it is facing intense crisis like world arrogant powers are fighting against Islamic world through cultural attacks and unfortunately the Muslim nations are not expressing any reactions against it.
The late Imam Khomeini (RA) introduced world arrogant powers as the greatest complexity for the Islamic world, his ijtehad (a process through which the Islamic laws are deduced from Holy Quran and Islamic traditions) was of big difference in compare to others.
Imam Khomeini (RA) keeping under view what the era and geographical condition of country required used to calculate the problems of Islamic societies.
That is why we should term Imam Khomeini as a role model for the Islamic world and follow his precious thoughts to rescue form current problems, he added, reported by the Information and Public relations General Office of the Organization of Culture and Islamic Relations.

Israeli commandos killed nine civilians in a pre-dawn raid on the flotilla. 
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) on Tuesday urged President Barack Obama to condemn what the Muslim civil rights group called an Israeli “massacre” of civilians on a flotilla of ships in international waters seeking to bring humanitarian aid to the people of the Gaza Strip. Israeli commandos killed nine civilians in a pre-dawn raid on the flotilla.
“Israel’s attack on the flotilla has already been condemned by the international community,” CAIR’s statement reminded.
Reminding that a number of Americans, including former Ambassador Edward L. Peck, are among those taking part in the humanitarian aid effort and other passengers include 1976 Nobel Peace Prize winner Mairead Corrigan Maguire of Northern Ireland, CAIR urged the US President to immediately condemn the incident.
“It is imperative that President Obama not only speak out strongly against this massacre of civilians but also demonstrate our nation’s outrage at Israel’s brutal actions by taking concrete steps to end the humanitarian siege imposed on Gaza with America’s support,” said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad. “Our nation must now work to end the inhumane and illegal siege on Gaza.”
Awad also urged the president to live up to his statement one year ago in Cairo in which he said that America will not turn its back on “the legitimate Palestinian aspiration for dignity, opportunity and a state of their own.”
CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
Hamas has lashed out at the UN Security Council’s weak and dubious statement on the Israeli attack on the Freedom Flotilla carrying relief aid for besieged Gaza, urging all world countries to cut diplomatic ties with the Zionist regime.
According to Press TV, Head of Hamas’ Political Bureau, Khaled Mash’al, said on Tuesday evening “What the Security Council did today, under the shadow of a US pressure and veto, is a betrayal of humanity and not just for the people of Gaza and their supporters.”
He called for punishment of Israel, saying: We call for the trial of Israeli War Minister Ehud Barak, Premier Benjamin Netanyahu and all Zionist leaders as war criminals.”
Mash’al called on US President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to “take the bold initiative of a historic decision to break the blockade on Gaza and force Israel to do that.”

Ayatollah Khamenei, while paying homage to the immortal legacy bequeathed by Imam Khomeini to the Iranian nation, the Muslim ummah, and the world’s oppressed masses, says the political school founded by the Imam caters to the modern man’s needs and provides a perfectly new path for all humanity on the basis of Islam. The main characteristic of the people’s movement set in motion in Iran by Imam Khomeini is its Islamic nature. It has gifted the Iranian people with most effective style of government. As Ayatollah Khamenei points out, under circumstances when Godless rulers of the Muslim world ignored Islam, Imam Khomeini revived and revitalized religious teachings to restore people their human dignity. The Late Imam considered all Muslims a monolithic Ummah and spread the message of brotherhood and unity among world Muslims. Islamic unity was considered one of the prime goals of the Imam. Ayatollah Khamenei says: “Today all Muslims around the world feel indebted to Imam Khomeini for showing the political power of Islam to change international equations in the quest for justice. The Intefadha of the Palestinian people against the Zionist usurpers of their homeland owes its inspiration to Imam Khomeini’s ushering of the 
Islamic Revolution in Iran. Imam Khomeini’s imprint on the anti-oppression aspects of the Islamic movement is all evident today, whether in Palestine or whether in Lebanon, against the state terrorism of the usurper state of Israel. In many other countries, Muslim youths have been inspired by Islamic teachings thanks to Imam Khomeini.”
Ayatollah Khamenei says in Imam Khomeini’s political school, human dignity is essential and is a powerful and effective instrument for achieving the goals of Islam. As a result, people’s votes play a basic role. Certainly from the Imam’s viewpoint people play effective role once they are united. This is evident by his transformation of the Iranian people into a solid and united nation on the basis of Islam. Ayatollah Khamenei drew attention in this regard to the immortal words of the Late Imam that the key to victory is unity of words, and if there is no unity of words, the Iranian nation cannot take a step forward. And God certainly helps those who are resolved to knit ranks as brothers-in-faith. Imam Khomeini was without the least doubt the most wise and prudent leader of modern times. He was totally indifferent of his worldly position. Ayatollah Khamenei who like the Late Imam leads a simple life points to the luxurious and selfish life of world rulers, even among Muslim states, and says: The Imam showed that the true leader of Muslims ought to lead a pious life by abstaining from luxurious palaces. Like the Prophets of God, he should be accessible to the masses, by frequenting the Hosseiniyeh and tackling people’s problems. Ayatollah Khamenei notes that in today’s materialistic world, Imam Khomeini revived the values of spirituality and showed the power of ethics that are never separate from either politics or social life. In other words, he showed that politics devoid of spirituality is devilish work, while politics on the basis of religious teachings and spiritual teachings is a form of worship and to the betterment of human dignity. These values are the key to the success of the Islamic Revolution and the failure after failure of Global Arrogance.
