Pakistan– LHC moved against publishing Quranic verses in newspapers

LAHORE: Kashif Mehmood advocate on Wednesday moved a constitutional petition before the Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking a ban on the publication of Quranic verses and their translation in newspapers.

The petitioner said publishing verses of the Holy Quran in newspapers was not only against Islamic injunctions, but also against the spirit of the constitution.

He said a large chunk of the population disposed of newspapers after reading them, something that was quite unbecoming for a Muslim.

He requested the court to direct the government to bar media groups from publishing Quranic verses.
