ISLAMABAD, Jul 18 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday vowed his firm resolve to make Pakistan a great country and said he will do for this nation what others failed to achieve before him.“We have started from where Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Sahiba left,” the President said speaking at a dinner he hosted for PPP Parliamentarians from the National Assembly and the four Provincial Assemblies of along with their families.

The reception was arranged to introduce the second generation of the party workers to the third generation.

“We have come a long way and in the process fought three dictators. But whatever the situation, we were never cowed down by them,” he added.

“I would like to die at the annals of history rather than at the hands of a dictator.”

The President said his party has always worked for the people and the down trodden and this was the spirit with which his late spouse worked throughout her life.

“She (Benazir Bhutto) was told time and again not to go in the public. She was told to address rallies from her home. But she said no one can keep me away from my people.”

President Zardari said that she knew she will not live for very long and wrote her 17-page will.

“And not for once her pen shook,” Zardari added.

President Zardari announced that the next meeting of the Friends of Democratic Pakistan (FoDP) will be chaired by US President Barack Obama.

He said that by the time Peoples Party completes its tenure, his government would add another 7,000 megawatt of electricity to the power generation system.

He also stressed the need to control population growth as the resources were not meeting the demand of growing number of people.

The President said that he was ready to face any challenge and told the audience that his politics were never meant for elections.

“We do politics on the basis of our ideals and principles.”

He vowed to ‘design the politics’ in a manner that in future

no leader will ever have to sacrifice his or her life for it.

“We will make sure that no one in future will be able to mould the constitution according to his will. The system will be run according to the constitution,” President Zardari added.

Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said the party workers have given their blood for it and its flag will always remain high.

He said Bhutto’s family is the only family in the politics which has never compromised on principles.

He said it was a good luck for the party, that its command was in the hands of young blood.

Earlier, Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the party will continue to fight for the human rights and the rights of women and uplift of the constitution.

“We will bring relief to the poor people of Pakistan and the decision which the second generation could not take will be taken by the third generation.

“We are ready to sacrifice the last drop of our blood for the country as our mother and grandfather did. People believe in us and therefore they expect more from us and we shall not let them down,” he added.

Aseefa Bhutto in her address said that every one is for the ideals of the party and the memories of her mother cannot be erased from her mind and that of her party workers.

Bakhtawar Bhutto said the party was like a family and it will continue to be there for years to come.
