Saudi student punished for being Shia

Shia students at an elementary school in Saudi Arabia have been subject to physical punishment and insults over their faith by a Salafi teacher.

The report, which was first published by the Saudi Arabian Rasid News Network, said the punishments traumatized the students and inflicted emotional and psychological damage.

The teacher identified as Shaher al-Aatibi, is a hard-line member of the Salafi sect working at the Jafar ibn Abi Talib elementary school in Qatif in eastern Saudi Arabia.

Al-Aatibi repeatedly calls Shia students ‘infidels’ and ‘idolaters,’ saying they support Iran and the late founder of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Rouhollah Khomeini.

According to the report, the teacher also physically punishes students over unwarranted issue such as wearing rings, causing a rift among the different tribes of the area.

A 2009 report by the New York-based Human Rights Watch (HRW) criticized the Saudi government over its “systemic state discrimination” against Shia Muslims across the Kingdom.

Jafar ibn Abi Talib elementary school has a total of 600 staff and students, a vast majority of whom are Shia.

Qatif has the largest concentration of Shia Muslims in Saudi Arabia.

Imam Reza (AS) Cultural Artistic Festival Underway in Lahore

Organized by Iran Cultural House in Lahore, Imam Reza (AS) Cultural Artistic Festival is now underway at the center.

Organized by Iran Cultural House in Lahore, Imam Reza (AS) Cultural Artistic Festival is now underway at the center.

The 5-day festival includes the Razavi Exhibition as well as poetry recitation ceremonies.

The opening ceremony which was held on Wednesday, October 20, started with the recitation of a few verses of the Quran followed by eulogies for the Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) by a number of religious poets from Lahore.

Mehran Eskandarian, cultural expert of Iran Cultural House, also presented his supplication and poems.

Abbas Famuri, Iran’s cultural attaché and head of the country’s cultural house, was the next speaker who, congratulating Imam Reza’s (AS) birth anniversary, said that Imam Reza’s real name and epithet are Ali and Abu-Al-Hassan respectively, while his most well-known title is Reza meaning ‘contentment’.

He further referred to Imam’s ethical and virtuous characteristics adding that he treated all people with respect and kindness in a way that even his enemies stood in awe of him.

Another speaker was Ghahraman Soleimani, head of Persian Language and Literature Development Center, who referred to the extensive cultural relations between Iran and Pakistan noting that Persian speakers do not have much difficulty understanding the words and grammatical structures in Urdu since the two languages have many rules in common.

People of the Subcontinent used to narrate their life stories in poems and that’s why poetry has always been the voice of spirituality especially in Shia communities, he added.

Poetry had also a lofty status at the time of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) when poets had a grand responsibility to serve Islam through their poems, he went on to say.

Muslim students try to clear misconceptions through Islam Awareness Week

In light of the recent controversy over a planned mosque near the site of Ground Zero, MU’s Muslim Student Organization is prepared to set the record straight with Islam Awareness Week.

COLUMBIA

– In light of the recent controversy over a planned mosque near the site of Ground Zero, MU’s Muslim Student Organization is prepared to set the record straight with Islam Awareness Week.

From Oct. 25 through Oct. 28, the organization will host multiple events to spread the word about the religion of Islam and its practices.

Islam Awareness Week is an annual event, typically held in the spring. Because of recent mosque burnings nationally and negative discussion about American Muslims in relation to Ground Zero, however, the group made the decision to move the date of the event.

“We really just want to educate people about what Islam in America really is, especially because nowadays people get the wrong impression of Islam when they only watch 30-second clips on Fox News or CNBC,” said Mahir Khan, the Muslim Student Organization’s public relations chair. “Islam and America are not that conflicting, they are actually more hand-in-hand than most people understand.”

Mark Scott, a religious professor at MU, teaches a class on major world religions.

“It’s important to cultivate appreciation of all world religions,” Scott said. “Every religion has the capacity for peace and the capacity for violence.”

The first event, “Muslims in the Media,” will include a panel of Muslim community members hosting a discussion about the portrayal of Muslims in the news. The event will be held on the MU campus in 110 Memorial Union South.

“Conceptions about Islam are so widespread and often relate to terrorism,” Scott said. “I can see why this event would be very valuable.”

On Tuesday, the group will screen the film “Billal’s Stand,” a Sundance Film Festival selection. It tells the story of Bilal, a young black Muslim, living in Detroit.

“We picked this movie because it portrays a story that a lot of American Muslims go through when they struggle to keep their faith in this environment,” Khan said.

The film will play at 7:30 pm in Ellis Auditorium.

In addition to promoting Islam awareness, the Muslim Student Organization plans to support another cause at its third event on Wednesday. The organization will host a Women in Islam panel, which comprises Muslim women within the Columbia community.

The panelists will discuss their stories of adjusting to Islamic life in the U.S., especially in the context of common stereotypes and negative images that surround Islamic women in America.

Khan said each Muslim woman will be encouraged to wear a pink hijab, in honor of breast cancer awareness. This tradition started in Columbia a few years ago, and has now become a national phenomenon. Each attendee will also be encouraged to wear pink and contribute to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

The event will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Mumford Hall, room 133.

The final event for Islam Awareness Week will feature Suhaib Weeb, a former gang member who converted to Islam. Webb is now a prominent Islamic figure, who Khan described as a “huge force in the American Muslim community.”

“He embodies the American values of fixing yourself, getting out of a bad situation and pulling yourself up from your bootstraps,” Khan said. “He also embodies Islamic ideals like dedicating yourself to your religion, and the more you learn about him the more you fall in love with him.”

The Muslim Student Organization expects this to be the most popular event of Islam Awareness Week, and anticipates a crowd of about 100 people.

Khan said he hopes that these events raise awareness and understanding of Muslims as regular people.

German companies offered to implement 1,000 low-cost housing units within an integrated housing neighborhood project for a total cost of $16.5 million, a local spokesman said on Saturday.

“A delegation representing a German consortium offered to Karbala Governor Amal al-Din al-Hirr and Provincial Council Chief Muhammad Hameed al-Moussawi a project of 1,000 low-cost housing units, each consisting of three rooms,” Emad Muhammad

For his part, the chairman of the board of the German consortium said the delegation was acquainted on conditions in the city and was encouraged to offer readiness to implement the project, which would take place near the green belt southwest of Karbala city.

“The contract will be signed during the next few days to start the project by German technicians while the working hands will be Iraqi,” he added.

The holy Shiite city of Karbala lies 180 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Italy exhibits Islamic artworks

Italy has mounted an exhibition of Islamic artworks in the city of Milan, which features pieces from the dawn of Islam until the modern era.

Italy has mounted an exhibition of Islamic artworks in the city of Milan, which features pieces from the dawn of Islam until the modern era.

Organized by Milan Municipality, the event displays Islamic artworks from Egypt, Iran, India and Spain.

The exhibition aims to provide those living outside the Islamic community with a better understanding of the Muslim world.

Muslim immigrants of Italy were provided with the chance to “show their art and go proud saying that we had and we have a very big civilization and we can show it,” director of the exhibition Giovanni Curatola told Press TV.

Over one million Muslims currently live in Italy where Islam is the second largest faith after Catholicism in the European country.

In recent years many Muslims have immigrated to Italy from Morocco, Egypt and Tunisia.

In 2005, the Italian Minister of Interior founded the Council for Italian Islam composed of Muslim people.

“We tend to learn about other people, other religions and other civilizations through our own prejudices and stereotypes,” cultural assessor Massimiliano Finazzer Flory said.

“This is wrong,” he added, saying “Culture is all about questioning our convictions and this exhibition offers people a look at a civilization from a geographical, historical and anthropological point of view but without involving ideologies.”

Milan’s Islamic Art Exhibition will run until the end of January 2011 at the city’s Palazzo Reale.

Bahraini Shia Muslim party wins 18 seats in vote

The opposition has won nearly half of the parliamentary seats in the Saturday’s elections in thePersian Gulf state of Bahrain, the electoral commission says.

The opposition has won nearly half of the parliamentary seats in the Saturday’s elections in the Persian Gulf state of Bahrain, the electoral commission says.

Election authorities said on Sunday that Bahrain’s main Shia opposition group, the Islamic National Accord Association (INAA), won 18 of the parliament’s 40 seats.

The 18 candidates of INAA were elected in the first round of the legislative polls, electoral commission chairman Abdullah al-Buainain told AFP.

Nine seats remain up for grabs in the second round of voting which is to take place on October 30, he went on to say.

Earlier, the opposition had criticized the process, saying Shia voters had been turned away from polling booths. The head of the largest Shia bloc lodged allegations of irregularities just less than an hour before voting closed.

Manama rejects the charges, amid concerns that even small numbers of votes could influence the results in a country with fewer than 319,000 eligible voters.

Head of the al-Wefaq party Sheik Ali Salman said that at least 890 voters were turned away from polling stations in mostly Shia areas because their names were not on electoral lists.

“This is not the full number,” Salman said at a news conference. “We expect it to be higher.”

Nabeel Rajab, the director of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights, said the government intended to make sure the country’s Shia majority would not gain power.

Hundreds of Shia people have been arrested since August, and at least 23 top opposition figures have been charged with plotting against Bahrain’s Sunni-dominated government.

Bahrain authorities have not allowed international election monitors, adding to worries among Shias of possible fraud and vote rigging.

Anti-Human Rights Bahraini Government Arrests Family of Shia Activists

Bahraini security forces have arrested the family members of opposition activists who have spoken out against the government’s growing violence against the country’s Shia community.

Bahraini security forces have arrested the family members of opposition activists who have spoken out against the government’s growing violence against the country’s Shia community.

According to the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR), Bahraini security forces raided the house of Hasan Mushaima — one of the leaders of Shia Haq political party — last week and arrested his son Mohammed Mushaimea without any specific charge.

The arrest came a few hours after his father, who is currently in the UK for medical treatment, appeared on a TV channel and criticized the deteriorating situation of human rights in Bahrain.

Mushaimea’s family said security forces entered their house and searched everywhere without holding a search warrant. Security forces also confiscated their computer.

In another incident, Bahraini security forces arrested football player Mahdi Sa’ad and banned him from traveling abroad after her sister appeared on the BBC Arabic and slammed Manama’s aggressive approach toward detained opposition activists.

Sa’ad’s sister had also criticized Bahraini authorities for failing to inform her family about the condition of her blind brother, Ali Sa’ad, who was arrested in September. She said it is not clear where he is being held and that her family has not been given permission to visit him.

The BCHR argues that arresting and harassing the relatives and family members of those who criticize the government on TV channels or news agencies abroad demonstrate the authorities’ intolerance toward criticism. It is also an attempt by Manama to hide the reality of what is happening in Bahrain from the world’s public opinion.

Imam Khamenei Meets With Top Shia Clerics in Holy Qom

World Shia Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has met with a number of top religious figures during his visit to the holy city of Qom in central Iran.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has met with a number of top religious figures during his visit to the holy city of Qom in central Iran.

The Leader, who is on a 9-day tour of the city, sat down with Grand Ayatollahs Lotfollah Safi Golpaygani, Hossein Nouri Hamedani, Naser Makarem Shirazi, Mousa Shobeiri Zanjani, Jafar Sobhani and Abdollah Javadi Amoli.

Imam Khamenei also visited the families of three martyrs of the 1980-1988 Iraqi imposed war on Iran late Thursday, and paid tribute to the fallen men as well as their next of kin. He offered prayers to their souls and prayed to God to grant their families patience and forbearance.

The Imam arrived in Qom on Tuesday and received a rapturous welcome upon his arrival. Thousands of people, including foreigners studying at Qom’s theology schools, poured into the streets to welcome him.

Imam Khamenei also addressed tens of thousands of clerics and students of the Qom Islamic Seminary early on Thursday.

Shia Leader In Bahrain Demands Authority Not Be Monopolized By Ruling Family

Sheikh Ali Salman, the secretary general of the Society of National Islamic Unity, which is considered the principal Shi’ite organization in Bahrain, has demanded that the government authority in the country not be monopolized by the ruling family.

He says that he would like to see someone from outside that family to become prime minister.

In an election rally for the Bahraini parliament, Salman declared: “We seek, through a long-term program, that one day, the government will be in the hands of the children of the people.”

The Al-Khalifa family has ruled Bahrain since 1783.

Imam Khamenei Holds Morning Prayers at Holy Mosque of Jamkaran

Leader addresses a large gathering of clerics, scholars in Qom

The Leader of Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, has said that the holy city of Qom has never been as effective as today toward the global developments and policies, and due to this distinguished status it has never had the friends and enemies as it currently has.
The Leader of Islamic Revolution addressed a large gathering of Ulema, lecturers, and scholars of the Qom Seminary on Thursday morning, while hailing the efforts of tens of thousands of scholars in the holy city of Qom for learning and promoting Islamic teachings as an unprecedented phenomenon.
The Leader further rejected the fallacious reasoning that calls for separation of the Seminary from politics and international topics of importance and noted that neutrality and lack of movement does not stop the enemy and in fact encourages the foes to intensify their hostilities.
The Leader of Islamic Revolution further elaborated on the goals of the enemies of Islam in promoting two diversionary concepts of the “rule of clerics” and “division of the clergy into the ones within the ruling system and those outside the ruling system”, while emphasizing that: “The foes want to deprive the sacred Islamic establishment from the huge ideological support of Ulema, and the enemies have in fact launched a futile bid to somehow isolate and disrepute revolutionary clerics. Meanwhile, one should vigilantly stand against these sinister and ominous aims.”
The Leader further pointed out that the sacred Islamic system is in fact the rule of sacred religion of Islam and religious values; and is not the rule of clerics.
In further remarks, the Leader referred to a few, who issue fatwa to mainly comply with the materialistic norms and tendencies and even for the sake of Global Arrogance. The Leader went on to add: “Someone has issued a fatwa that Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities are illegitimate because the world powers have been suspicious about it. But, we say that the Global Arrogance has made a major mistake and is wrongful and should not dare to be suspicious toward the Iranian nation.”
Furthermore, the Leader reiterated that within the seminaries’ ethical and behavioral system, the revolutionary sentiments and tendencies should be fully attended because the enemies and their followers are intent on pursuing their ominous goals through shattering the revolutionary atmosphere.
The Leader of Islamic Revolution enumerated efforts to isolate revolutionary and Basiji clerics; disregard for martyrdom and martyrs; and questioning of the sacred defense of the Iranian nation as parts of the approaches adopted by the foes of Islam to undermine the revolutionary atmosphere in the seminaries, while calling on the clerics of seminaries to be fully sensitive and cautious in this regard.

Lal Masjid was a “den of terrorists” : Musharraf

JNN 17.10.10 DALLASFormer president General (retd)  Pervaiz Musharaf has said that those who were killed in Islamabad’s Lal Masjid were terrorists and insisted that no woman was killed during that operation, adding that out of 150 only 94 terrorists, including two foreign nationals, were killed in the July 2007 encounter.

The former president was  addressing a Public meeting of All Pakistan Muslim League in Dallas on Saturday. The former general dwelt at length on Pakistan’s political situation and the issues of Dr Qadeer and Taliban.

Musharraf clarified that he had never apologised for the Lal Masjid episode. According to him, Lal Masjid was a “den of terrorists” and as a head of state it was his duty to restore the writ of the state. He said that the government tried its best to settle the Masjid issue peacefully. “We also invited the Imam of Ka’aba for mediation, but all in vain. Since, we never wanted to turn Pakistan into a Taliban state, we took action”.

“I have apologised on the issue of the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), which I had to accept on the advice of my political advisers.”

The former president said that when he was in uniform, people called him a dictator. Pointing at himself, he said that “  Dictatorship lies in the brain, and it is a mindset and uniform has got nothing to do with it”.

Referring to Dr Qadeer’s confession, the former dictator termed the nuclear scientist “ A Liar”, adding that Dr Qadeer “sold” nuclear secrets to three countries and he (Musharraf) had valid proof.

Denying that his government had harassed the nuclear scientist, he said that whatever Dr Qadeer had said on television he had done so voluntarily and he was not forced to do so, said Musharraf.

“I saved Dr Qadeer because he is a national hero, and I also consider him national hero,” he said, adding: “It is also a fact that he (Qadeer) made mistakes.”

The public meeting was also addressed by Coordinator of APML’s Dallas coordinator Javed Siddiqui. As many as 500 people attended the public meeting.

Earlier, General Musharraf was received by party leaders Ameer Sukhano, Dr Hassan, Dr Tasnim Agha, Naeem, Nadeem Akhter Azeem Siddiqui Tanvir Malik, Dr Arjumand, Khalil Qureshi Muhammad Ali Siddiqui, Nadem Chaudhry and others.

'FBI knew of Mumbai attacks Years in advance'

JNN 17.10.10 A media report says that US intelligence officials were aware of plans to attack Mumbai years before the terrorist incident killed more than 170 people in India’s main port city in 2008.

A report published by the Washington Post on Wednesday said that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had been tipped off in 2005 about an American national, who masterminded attacks on the Indian financial hub three years later.

The man identified as David Coleman Headley underwent intensive training with banned militant groups in Pakistan, the report added.

Based on the report, Headley’s wife told FBI agents that her husband was in close contact with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), the group blamed by India for the deadly attacks on Mumbai.

The report also says Headley went to Mumbai five times to scout landmark locations and targets for the attack on the city.

The report comes months after the Pakistani interior ministry suggested that the Mumbai attack were planned outside Pakistan.

“An initial probe conducted by a three-member team set up by the Interior Ministry has concluded that the 26/11 attacks were planned outside Pakistan,” Pakistan’s Dawn News quoted unnamed sources as saying in 2009.

The British intelligence service, MI5, however, had earlier said that it had uncovered links between the terrorists involved in the Mumbai attacks and UK nationals.

“We have looked at individuals’ communications, where they have been and so on and found they have got connections with most countries including the UK…,” said MI5 Director General Jonathan Evans in early January 2009.

Pakistan has rejected the involvement of its government in the attacks, saying that “non-state actors” were involved in the incident.

Relations between the nuclear-armed neighbors have soured since the incident.

Whlie even in previous reports of UK based newspapers it was said that the Attacker were not Pakistani , but they were from Britian and were even trained by British Intelligence agencies.

As per the reports published in the following Papers on Saturday, November 29, 2008

Both the  Daily Express  and the Daily Star assure their readers that British citizens were involved in the Mumbai terrorist attacks. Under the headline”Brit terror nuts shoot girl, 13, dead” the Starreports:

“The Mumbai massacre that left more than 150 people dead was carried out by Brits, it emerged last night. Police from the UK and India are probing claims that up to seven of the assassins, whose victims included a 13-year-old girl, travelled from the UK.

“Indian security forces said at least two of the captured terrorists were British-born Pakistanis, while the total number could be as many as seven. In a sick twist, they are thought to have possible links to Yorkshire towns where the 7/7 outrages were plotted.

“Last night UK police were using hi-tech computer software to link images of up to 25 gunmen to known Islamic fanatics.”

Read on, however, and you find Gordon Brown quoted as saying: “At no point has the Prime Minister of India suggested to me there is evidence at this stage of any terrorist of British origins.” And an unnamed security source states that there is “no specific information” linking suspects to the UK.

Which, of course, doesn’t prevent the Star and Express using this tragedy to publish scaremongering headlines as part of their propaganda campaign against the UK’s Muslim communities.

Nor is this malicious reporting restricted to Richard Desmond’s rags. The Daily Mirror  goes with “Seven Mumbai gunmen are from ‘Leeds and Hartlepool'”, while the Independent  takes the opportunity to run a story entitled “British Muslims have become a mainstay of the global ‘jihad'”.

23 Bahraini Shias Activists Charged With Terrorism

Some 23 activists arrested as part of a clampdown on Shia political opposition in Bahrain have been charged with “terrorism and conspiring against the government.”

The men will face trial on October 28 on the charge of “spreading false information and forming an illegal group,” said Prosecutor General Abdul-Rahman al-Sayed on Wednesday.

The Shia activists could face sentences as harsh as life imprisonment if convicted.

Bahrain’s Sunni-dominated government has intensified its crackdown on the country’s majority Shia population, arresting dozens of opposition figures on the allegation of planning to topple the Bahraini government.

Amnesty International says more than 250 people, believed to be in detention, are at the risk of being tortured.

The detentions come ahead of the country’s upcoming parliamentary elections on October 23.

Human Rights Watch has also accused Bahrain of restricting movement and travel of human rights activists in an effort to prevent them from spreading the word about the arrest of opposition members.

“There is a continuous war against all Shias who are critics of the government,” Nabeel Rajab, the head of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights said on Monday.

The population of Bahrain is predominantly Shia. However, they have long complained about being discriminated against by the Sunni-dominated government in obtaining jobs and receiving services.

African Shia Muslims Severely Condemned Persecution of Bahraini Shias

I have followed the events in Bahrain over the past two months and have been shocked by the news that our brothers are ill-treated in prisons.

We in the Shia Islamic Movement and indeed the entire Muslims in Nigeria express our solidarity with these brothers, especially the religious scholars like Sheikh Mohammad Habib Al Miqdad, Sheikh Saeed Al Nouri, Sheikh Mirza Al Mahroos, Sheikh Abdul Hadi Al Makhowdar and Sayyed Aqeel Al Sari.

The reports by the international human rights bodies like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have caused enormous anxiety among Muslims in Nigeria. These acts are crimes and the perpetrators have committed crimes against humanity.

It is also absurd to hear the withdrawal of the Bahraini nationality from Ayatullah Sheikh Hussain Najati and his family. He is the representative of Grand Ayatullah Sayyed Ali Al Sistani and this is an act of disrespect to the religious leadership.

We stand shoulder to shoulder with our Muslim brothers in Bahrain and call on the Government of Bahrain to stop its aggression against its own people and respect their rights.

We call for the following:

1-    The immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners in Bahrain.

2-    A thorough and impartial investigation into the use of torture against the prisoners of conscience.

3-    The prosecution of the torturers and an end to the impunity as enshrined in the Bahraini laws.

4-    An immediate halt to the naturalization process that aims at altering the demographic balance in Bahrain. This act is tantamount to silent genocide.

5-    The restoration of Bahraini nationality to Ayatullah Sheikh Hussain Najati who was born and bred in Bahrain.

6-    A constitution written by the people and approved in a referendum as is the practice in the modern world.

7-    An immediate end to kidnappings by the Death Squads, and an impartial investigation into all cases of this kind.

World Shia Leader: Iran’s enemies targeting Islam

World Shia Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, says the enemies are targeting Islam and the Holy Qur’an to fight Iran.

In a Wednesday meeting with Basij youth, Imam Khamenei pointed to the 30-year animosity of arrogant powers toward the people of Iran and said, “The enemies pretend that their target is Iran but in reality they are targeting Islam and the Qur’an.”

“Because they have realized the source of the Iranian nation’s development, resilience and dignity is the religion of Islam, spirituality and the Qur’an.”

Imam Khamenei said the Iranian nation is a pioneer in the battle between the Muslim Ummah and hegemonic powers and it will increase its strength to advance without retreating or slowing down.

Ayatollah Khamanei said the Iranian nation is passing a dangerous turn in history, adding that “in the past 30 years we have passed parts of this fate-determining era but crossing these sensitive points is not yet over.”

Imam Khamenei added that the nation and its officials would continue their path with “wisdom, deliberation and solidarity.”

Imam Khamenei said certain individual claim that the Revolution has aged, is over and Imam Khomeini has been forgotten.

“These individuals, who were not necessarily the enemies of the Revolution from the beginning, were left wanting in the face of their egocentricity and materialistic motivations and succumbed to temptations of power and position.”

The Leader said these individuals have become empty on the inside and this is why they think the Revolution is over but this claim is a fraction of their “imagination and a hallucination.”

Imam Khamenei said Iranians would overcome the enemies and “reach the high peaks of progress and honor.”

Shias in Kuwait seek election boost-up

KUWAIT CITY: Kuwaiti Shias are looking to boost their strength in parliament when the country goes to the ballot box on Saturday.

Under a new election system, the number of electoral districts has been cut from 25 to five, increasing the number of voters in each constituency five-fold and changing the geographic distribution of voters.

A Shia candidate Abdulwahed Khalfan expected Shia candidates to benefit from the new system.

In the past, two legislators were elected for each electoral district, and Shias were a majority in only two constituencies.

Now each constituency will elect 10 deputies. Shias constitute half the voters in one constituency and sizeable numbers in the remaining constituencies.

Pakistan Police Arrest 2 Men Planning to Kill Doctors, Shia Muslims

The police have arrested two men on suspicion of being involved in the killings of doctors and Shia scholars. One of them is a repeat offender out on bail from jail.

In his first press conference since assuming office, chief of police Fayyaz Leghari announced that the men were caught in Orangi Town. “[One of them] was leading a group of terrorists and was not only involved in the target killings of doctors and Shia scholars but had also planned to attack Ahmedi places of worship,” said the CCPO at a press conference at the Central Police Office on Sunday.

The media had earlier reported that the arrests took place early Friday. The police have denied this.

The police identified the men as Naseem Haider alias ‘Firon’ and Asif Rasheed alias ‘Dunba’ and said they were related to the banned militant Lashkar-e-Jhangvi outfit.

They were booked in the murder cases of Maulana Ghulam Muhammad and Muhammad Hussain, for killing Dr Najm-ul-Hasan on Aug 17, Dr Syed Mehtab Hussain and a Shia man named Sheraz in March this year.

Leghari said that the pair had revealed during questioning that they had planned to attack Ahmedi sites before the by-elections in Orangi Town. An informer had tipped the police off that the men were on their way to Saleemabad to target another doctor. A team was dispatched. It found the men on a motorcycle (No KBP 8591) and flagged them down. “They did not stop and instead opened fire on the police who retaliated and arrested them,” said SP Khurram Waris, who headed the operation. The police claimed to have seized one Kalashinkov and two TT pistols from their possession.

This is not the first time that Naseem was arrested. He was in jail from 2003 to 2007 but was released on bail in all of the cases against him.

CCPO Leghari said that people involved in such crimes do not stop working for their organizations even after they are imprisoned and then released. “They do whatever they were doing before imprisonment,” he said, adding that his department was working in close collaboration with the registrar of the high court to ensure such criminals get justice.

“We are holding meetings on a monthly basis,” he said.

Target killing investigations

The CCPO said that they have divided target killings into four categories: Sectarian killings, ethnic killings, political killings and random killings. “The CID is looking after the sectarian target killings,” he said.

The department has appointed focal persons to investigate the other types of killings. So far this year, the CPO has recorded a total of 230 target killing and out them, according to Leghari, there have been arrests in 32 cases.

Shrine attack

The CCPO came to the press conference well prepared. He knew that the media would ask questions related to the Abdullah Shah Ghazi shrine attack and other law and order matters. He had a grey file in his left hand and whenever someone asked him a question, he would take out the relevant colour-coded paper to answer.

“We have found some clues and with their help will soon identify the suicide bombers,” he said. He denied, however, that the perpetrators of the attack would benefit if any information leaked out.

Orangi town by-election

The chief of police said that the police have planned security for the Oct 17 by-election in Orangi Town. JNN 11.10.10 Amnesty International says more than 200 people, arrested as part of a clampdown against Shia political opposition in Bahrain, are at the risk of being tortured.

Around 250 individuals in Bahrain, who are believed to have been detained, are at risk of torture, the group said in a statement on Monday.

The detentions come ahead of the parliamentary elections on October 23.

Human Rights Watch also accused Bahrain of restricting the travel of rights activists to prevent them from talking about the arrest of opposition members.

The Sunni-dominated government has intensified the crackdown against the Shia population, arresting dozens of opposition figures on the allegation of planning to topple the government.

“There is a continuous war against all Shias who are critics of the government,” Nabeel Rajab, the head of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights, earlier told Press TV.

Many of the opposition detainees — including religious figures — were tortured and sexually assaulted, he said.

The population of Bahrain is predominantly Shia. However, the majority group has long complained of being discriminated against by the Sunni-dominated government in obtaining jobs and receiving services.

Khamenei Calls for Promotion of Scientific Programs

JNN 10.10.10 Khamenei says the main objective of acquiring knowledge and developing technology is to obtain humane values and defend the rights of the oppressed.

Khamenei met yesterday morning with thousands of scientific elites. During the meeting, His Eminence said that making investments in the arenas of science, technology, and educating elites is one of the main priorities in making plans that are aimed at fostering appropriate development.

His Eminence referred to science as the basis of the country’s material and spiritual power and reiterated: “All honorable Iranian people as well as officials, elites, students and academics should make serious and non-stop efforts in order to make up for the country’s historical and long-lasting backwardness in scientific fields.”

Khamenei touched on the scientific achievements of the country in such fields as nuclear technology, stem cells, nanotechnology and environmental technology and the pride of the Iranian nation in such achievements, adding: “In order to complement these achievements and expand the scope of such achievements to all fields, we have to develop an interrelated scientific cycle and system.”

World Shia Leader said that preparing the required software and hardware facilities for the elites is the most important way of supporting the elites and reiterated: “The elites are after making efforts, deep thinking and promoting progress of the country and the ground should be prepared for the elites to achieve this goal.”

Khamenei said that the country’s comprehensive scientific plan outlines an important part of the country’s scientific requirements. He further added that it is necessary that the elites make efforts in order to fulfill these needs.

Elsewhere in his speech, Imam Khamenei said that a cycle has to be developed in the country whereby thoughts are turned into commercial products.

He added: “We should create a cycle whereby the thoughts of elites are presented to scientific centers. Technological and industrial elites can turn these ideas into industrial and non-industrial products after they are scientifically nurtured. And the organizations in charge can prepare the ground for the production and industrialization of these products.”

Khamenei stressed the importance of industrialization and said that scientific and industrial products should have the potential to help produce wealth. “The officials of the organizations in charge should think of industrialization from the moment when scientific and industrial projects are started.”

His Eminence said that it is necessary to constantly monitor the results of the investments that are made with regard to elites and added: “It is necessary to constantly monitor the scientific activities and achievements of neighboring and Islamic countries and take them into consideration in our plans and activities.”

Khamenei said that the Islamic Republic’s emphasis on the importance of science is based on accurate calculation and thoughtful judgment and reiterated: “Constant emphasis on the importance of knowledge and scientific progress is not rooted in standing on ceremony and fleeting emotions. This is because according to accurate calculations, science and knowledge are the bases of the material and spiritual power of every country. And any nation who falls behind in this regard will be forced to imitate other countries.”

Khamenei said that the purpose of achieving scientific progress is different in the Islamic Republic than it is in the west and added: “Western countries seek to achieve wealth through making scientific progress. They did not respect the rights of the people or observe ethical and religious principles when they came across nations in the Indian subcontinent, Africa, East Asia, and Latin America on their way towards achieving scientific progress.”

His Eminence said that promoting oppression, class distinction and inattention to the basic rights of nations are the results of the incorrect scientific goals which are set in the west and added: “In Islam, purification precedes the acquisition of knowledge because in the absence of purification and human education, knowledge will turn into a tool for wickedness and committing crimes.”

Khamenei said that promoting human virtues and defending human rights in the true sense of the word are the main goals pursued by the Islamic Republic in the process of achieving scientific and technological progress and reiterated: “We seek knowledge in order to achieve true power and raise the flag of justice and humanity in the world. This will enable us to support innocent people in the face of the oppression of oppressive and domineering powers.”

Karachi: 2 Blasts near Ghazi's shrine, 10 martyred

JNN 07.10.10 KARACHI: At least ten people have been killed and over 80 others wounded in three explosions near Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s shrine late Thursday evening.

Rescue teams and law enforcement agencies have reached the spot. The area has been cordoned off by the police and the rangers. Police have found the head of the suicide bomber.

Rescues and hospital sources said that the injured include women and children. The death toll can rise as several injured are in critical condition.

The first blast took place at the walk-through gate and the second blast occurred within the next few minutes outside the office of the Manager Auqaf in the shrine premises.

Sindh Home Minister Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza has confirmed blasts as suicidal.

He visited the shrine with other high officials and gathered information.

More than 50 injured including women and children have been taken to Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre.

Federal Minister for Religious Affiars, Hamid Saeed Kazmi, condemning the suicide blasts at Ghazi’s shrine said that suicide bombers are not Muslims.

“Fool proof security was provided at Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s shrine. We can’t provide more security.” Zulifqar Mirza said, “I want closure of all shrines at least for a year. Terrorists want to destabilize the country.”

Security has been beefed up across the city, especially at shrines situated in different areas. All shrines in the city have been closed upon the orders of Sindh’s Home Minister.

Born in 109 Hijra, Abdullah Shah Ghazi, according to devotees, was a grandson of Hazrat Imam Hassan (AS). He migrated to Karachi in 138 Hijra during the Umayyad dynasty. Considering him a threat to their dynasty, the rulers hunted and martyred him with his many followers in 151 Hijra. His followers chose the hillock for his burial.

At that time, the hillock was surrounded by the sea and potable water was not available. Devotees believe that it was his miracle that a fountain of drinking water emerged from the bottom of the hill that continues to flow to this day.

Which is on  One side trying to Destabilize and Disintegrate Pakistan the Only Nuclear Power in the Islamic World , and on the other hand trying to defame Islam , as it is known to be the fastest growing religion in the world.

Ginger helps reduce muscle strain

JNN 04.10.10 MUMBAI: A new study has shown that taking raw ginger in small amount every day reduces the strain on muscles after a workout.

Ginger has long been used as a remedy for nausea, but recent research has suggested it has other powerful properties, reports the Daily Mail.

One lab study showed powdered ginger could kill ovarian cancer cells.

In the latest experiments, American scientists gave participants 2g of raw ginger, or a similar amount of heat-treated ginger as some evidence shows heat treatment boosts the spice’s potency for 11 days.

A third group was given a placebo. They were then put through a series of testing arm exercises.

The results showed that 24 hours after exercise, pain levels in the raw ginger-eating group were 25 per cent lower than those on the placebo.

And in the heat-treated group, pain levels were 23 per cent lower.

Researchers say this supports anecdotal evidence that ginger has a pain-killing effect.

  • The results have been published in the Journal of Pain.

Shia Muslims in the Persian Gulf; Worrying times

JNN 26.09.10 : FOR minorities, success is best in small doses. Too much may stir bigotry and charges of dual loyalty, or even make some within the minority dangerously impatient for change. Shias on the Arab side of the Persian Gulf have long lived with such ironies. Largely ignored through centuries under Sunni rulers, they now feel increasingly exposed.

First came the Islamic revolution of 1979 in neighbouring Iran, whose ripples frightened those rulers and emboldened their Shia subjects, leading to ugly clashes that subsided only in the 1990s. The more recent rise of Shia influence in Iraq and the success of Hizbullah, the Shia party-cum-militia in Lebanon, have caused similar waves, made stronger by Iran’s bid to become the dominant regional power.

Conditions for Shias vary among the Gulf monarchies but had until recently been broadly improving. In relaxed and relatively liberal Kuwait, where Shias account for a third of the ultra-rich citizenry, they have long been prominent in business and in government. Some hold high office in Bahrain, too, but proportionately far fewer than their two-thirds share of the island kingdom’s population.

Saudi Arabia has the largest number of Shias at 2m-odd, but they are thinly diluted in a population ten times bigger and are subject to more systematic discrimination. No Shia has become a cabinet minister or general—or even a headmistress in a state school, reflecting the Saudis’ severe Wahhabism, in effect the kingdom’s official doctrine. Still, in recent years the Saudi government has loosened some strictures on Shia worship and forced extremist Sunni clerics to lessen their anti-Shia vitriol.

Those gains look fragile amid a mood of rising sectarian tension across the region. In Bahrain, months of agitation by Shias campaigning for greater rights have led to growing government fears of worse to come in the event of trouble with Iran. Pressure from Saudi-aligned Sunni radicals has led to a full-scale crackdown on Shia politicking. Widespread arrests, the closure of mainstream Shia websites and newspapers, and the banning of some Shia preachers from mosque pulpits have combined to tilt much of Shia opinion into sullen hostility to the state.

Sectarian jitters

Many Bahrainis were shocked when a prominent Shia cleric, Ayatollah Hussein Mirza Najati, was ordered to be stripped of his citizenship. By contrast, Bahrain’s Shias often complain that the government has secretly given citizenship to thousands of foreign Sunnis in a bid to alter the sectarian balance. Moderate Shias still counsel patience with the ruling al-Khalifa family, whose promises of reform a decade ago had quelled unrest until now. But clouds may be gathering ahead of a parliamentary election due next month.

Kuwait’s authorities have grown jittery, too. Following sustained pressure from Islamist Sunni members of parliament, the emirate revoked the Kuwaiti passport of Yasser al-Habib, a Shia preacher exiled in London, whose sermons suggesting that one of Prophet Muhammad’s (s.a.w.w) wives had poisoned the prophet prompted widespread outrage. Alarmed by a spate of calls for Sunni protests, Kuwaiti police have banned all public meetings.

More quietly, Saudi authorities have for months been harassing local Shia campaigners, arresting dozens and holding many for weeks at a time. A ban on fatwas by independent Sunni clerics has muted public attacks on Shias, but Sunni chat-sites on the internet still describe them menacingly as a fifth column for Iran.

Present Pakistani Govt : The Best example of Bad Governance

JNN 22.09.10 If any body want to see the best example of Bad Governance of a country, then he/she must visit Pakistan now , other wise you ll loose the chance to see the the  Best example of Bad Governance of any Country.

The Situation of Pakistan at present is worst than ever , there is no writ of government in any matter of the Country. The prices of all the essential and daily use commodities are sky rocketing , the terrorism is all time high , there is no security of life , even if you seal your self in the 4 folds of iron walls. Shortage of Electricity , High rate of Load shedding of Electric and Gas. People are committing suicide because of Unemployment and Hunger.

The Government is so corrupt , that if you want to have any Law Passed from the Assembly , of your personal Interest than You pay the price and you ll have it passed from the Legislative Assembly, on the given time frame from the Broker of the Government .

If you want to have the Price fixed , of any commodity , according to your will , you can have it passed . The example of this Rate Hike of essential items like CNG is evident to all , as the Government is revising the Prices upward , while the suppliers or the CNG Pump station owners are revising the Prices downwards, as they know if they dont revise it down , then they can’t  sell even a single Kg of it as the buying power of the common Man is badly affected .

The prices of all the essential Kitchen items have increased to a record level , and till yet no steps have been taken to lower the prices or make measures that the common man can get some relief in such circumstances.

And the worst of all is that even the judiciary is corrupt and biased, from Top to the core , As people are now of the view that instead of hiring a good lawyer for your case , it is better to have a good judge for there case , which even gives them the gaurantee of wining the case. Even the top slot is so biased and politically motivated , that they see each and every fault in one party of the state , while they dont see any thing bad or not even ready to hear any thing bad against the Other Political party , as they must be there friends of there bad times. They can take suo moto action on the missing Persons , but could not order an inquiry of the target killing of the Innocent Shia community members , and not this but  if the rangers even Kill the Protesting Youth , they dont feel it bad or think it is liable to be punished. As it is Dictatorial rule they want to implement , By acting and trying to become the Chief Executive of the State.

The Law & Order situation is so bad that the Mafia’s and vested foriegn intelligence agencies are fulfiling their long awaited dreams of destablizing Pakistan ,and are now on the verge of Disintegrating Pakistan, By suicide attacks and target Killing of the Loyal poplulation of Pakistan , especially the Shia community , which is paying the heaviest cost of their loyalty to Pakistan and being the stanch believers of Islam ,as the whole situation is being created by the enemies of Pakistan and Islam.

Kuwait to withdraw Shia cleric's citizenship

JNN 21.09.10 – Kuwait will withdraw the citizenship of a Shia cleric whose so called derogatory remarks about a wife of the Prophet Mohammad fanned sectarian tension in the world’s No. 4 oil-exporting state, the state news agency said.

KUNA said the cabinet on Monday approved a draft decree to strip Yasser al-Habib of Kuwaiti citizenship and to prosecute him for his “shameful crimes”, a move it said was in the Gulf country’s higher interests.

Habib’s criticism of Aisha, whom Sunni Muslims revere and call the “mother of believers”, drew protests from Sunni clerics and lawmakers and threatened to cause civil strife. About one third of Kuwaitis belong to the Shiite sect of Islam.

Many Kuwaiti Shiite clerics and legislators denounced Habib’s comments, which he made in London, and said they were a threat to national unity. KUNA said the Kuwaiti government would ask Interpol to arrest Habib.

Writings about differences between the two sects and criticism of personalities belonging to them riled Kuwaitis in the past, raised fears of a developing security threat.

Govt Unable to control Target Killing in Karachi

Today in Nazimabad , Near Agha Juice Center , Tanveer Abbas embraced martydom by the firing of  terrorist of Wahabi Terrorist Organization , who came on a motor cycle and targeted Tanveer Abbas , and shot multiple bullets , after which they ran away , The victim was rushed to the hospital , but he embraced Martyrdom on the way to the Hospital.

He was a working for PCSIR, and a government Employ of 16 grade , and has left 3 Kids and a widow .

Imam Khamenei: US and Zionism, Not Christianity, Responsible for Anti-Islamism

Full text of the message of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution to the Muslim world in the wake of the unequivocally detestable act of desecrating the Holy Quran and plans to burn copies of it in the USA.

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
“Surely We have revealed the Reminder, and We will most surely be its guardian.” [Quran 15:9]

Dear Iranian people, great Islamic nation.
The insane and appalling insult to the holy Quran in the United States of America, under police protection, constitutes a serious tragic occurrence that cannot be regarded as a foolish act by some insignificant hirelings. It is an act plotted by institutions that have been relentlessly working for years to spread hatred of Islam and to fight it, as well as the Quran, through thousands of practical means including the media. It is another episode in the despicable series that started with the treason and blasphemy of Salman Rushdie, spread to the malevolent Danish caricaturist and other anti-Islam Hollywood productions, and has now reached this repugnant show. Still, what lies behind such evil acts and who stands in the shadows of this background?

Examining this evil course and its association with the criminal deeds in Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, and Pakistan, leaves no doubt whatsoever that those behind plotting and leading are the leaders of hegemonic regimes and Zionist dark rooms which significantly influence the US and its security and military institutions, as well as England among other European nations. Investigation and fact finding panels have been pointing at the responsibility of those same people in the 9/11 attacks on the twin towers. This gave then the criminal US President George W. Bush a justification to attack Afghanistan and Iraq in the framework of a crusade. This same person has reportedly stated that the crusade was complemented when the Church joined in.

On the one hand, the purpose of this recent heinous act is to take the controversy with Islam and Muslims to the Christian public level, give it a religious characteristic through the joining of the Church and the pastors, and then gain the support of by the elements of extremism to deal a blow to Muslim peoples. On the other hand, this act is aimed at infuriating Muslims to divert their attention from the occurring developments in the Islamic world and the Middle East.

This spiteful step is not the beginning of an inclination; it is a stage in the extending trend of anti-Islamism led by Zionism and the American regime. We can see today how the leaders of global arrogance and the heads of disbelief stand united in front of Islam. Islam is the religion of freedom and human spirit and the Quran is the book of mercy, wisdom, and justice. The free people of this world and the followers of monotheistic faiths of Prophet Abraham should stand by Muslims in the face of the wretched anti-Islam policies. The leaders of the American regime cannot acquit themselves of indulging this hideous phenomenon by mere absurd and deceitful rhetoric. We have witnessed through many years how the sanctities and the rights of millions of downtrodden Muslims have been desecrated in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Lebanon, and Palestine.

Why are these tragedies taking place? Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed, tens of thousands of women and men are living in captivity and anguish, thousands of children and women are being abducted, millions face disablement and displacement, for what? Despite all this injustice, we see international western media outlets project Muslims a violent people and the holy Quran and Islam in general as a threat to humanity. How can we believe that all these large-scale conspiracies can materialize if it were not for the support and interference of Zionist circles in the USA?
Muslim brothers and sisters in Iran and the world.
It is necessary for me to remind everybody of the following:

First: This, and previous similar incidents clearly show that the target of the global arrogant regime is the dear Islam and the holy Quran. The insolents blatantly declare their enmity to the Islamic Republic because Iran stands in the face of arrogance. However, their claim of not being anti-Islam is a big lie and a satanic stratagem. They are hostile to every aspect of Islam and everything that it stands for.

Second: This series of spiteful trends against Islam and Muslims stem from the fact that star of Islam has been increasingly glowing for decades. Not only has this religions reached and embedded hearts across the Muslim world, but in the West as well. It stems from the fact that the Islamic nation has become more conscious and the Muslim people have been determined to break the shackles of imperialism and the aggression of arrogant regimes. The insult to the holy Quran and Prophet Mohammed peace be upon him and his household, despite its bitterness, bears the great tidings that the light of the Quran shall glow brighter day after day.

Third: We should all know that the recent incident on the one hand and the Church and Christianity are incoherent. Christians and clerics should not be held responsible of the spectacles of some foolish pastors. As Muslims, we will never take on something similar with regards to the sanctities of other religions. Struggle between Muslims and Christians is what the enemies and the plotters of this insane play are after, however, the holy Quran guides us to the opposite direction.
Fourth: Muslims hold the US government and US politicians accountable. If they were sincere in their claims that they were not involved, then they ought to adequately punish the real elements and players who hurt the feelings of 1.5 billion Muslims.

Bahrain Govt abusing Power on Predominantly Shia Population

JNN 14.09.10 Amid increasing pressure on Shias in Bahrain, hundreds of people have staged a rally in Manama to protest Saudi Arabia’s support for the latest crackdown on the majority group.

In a pro-democracy movement, protesters reportedly blocked a road connecting Bahrain to Saudi Arabia, stopping hundreds of cars by setting tires on fire on the King Fahd Bridge.

Security officials said that at least four vehicles were damaged in an explosion in the capital city of Manama.

A Bahraini pro-democracy leader based in London, Saeed Shehabi, told Press TV that nearly all useful internet websites in the country had been shut down by the government in an attempt to prevent the spread of news about the situation in the Arab state.

The crackdown on protesters will not prevent further mass demonstrations from those seeking democracy in Bahrain, Shehabi said.

Bahrain’s Sunni-dominated government has arrested more than 250 Shias since August, accusing 23 of them of plotting a coup and inciting “violence, rioting and terrorism.”

The population of Bahrain is predominantly Shia. However, the majority group has long complained of being discriminated against by the Bahraini government in obtaining jobs and receiving services.

The Shia opposition refuses to recognize the 2002 constitution and has called for a boycott of the October 23 parliamentary elections.

Meanwhile, human rights groups have voiced concern about the situation, urging Bahrain to investigate allegations by some opposition activists that they were tortured while in detention.

Bahrain’s Shia Muslims say their rights are being restricted by Sunni rulers and they have been discriminated by ruling elites for years.

The 70 percent Shia population of Bahrain say that authorities in Manama are granting citizenship to thousands of Sunni foreigners to counterbalance the population in the Shia-majority state.

While prominent Shia clerics have been preaching religious harmony and promoting brotherhood, Shia activists have warned the government of sectarian strife should it continue with its discriminatory policies in the Persian Gulf State

Al-Qaeda Claims Ramadan Attacks in Iraq

Al-Qaeda has said it was behind a wave of attacks across Iraq during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, a US monitoring group said on Saturday.

Al-Qaeda front group, the Islamic State of Iraq, said that during “the month of fasting and jihad” it launched a “new earth-shaking wave” in its campaign of violence, the SITE Intelligence Group said.

In the statement posted on Islamist forums on Friday, the militants said they targeted “headquarters, centres and security barriers for the army and apostate police.”

On Wednesday, more than a dozen apparently coordinated car bombs targeting Iraqi police and other attacks blamed on Al-Qaeda hit 10 cities and towns around the country, killing 53 people and wounding hundreds.

Iraq has witnessed an upsurge in violence during Ramadan, when insurgents typically step up their activity.

The spike in unrest has triggered concern that Iraqi forces are not yet ready to handle security on their own, just days before the US military ends its combat mission in Iraq, and with no new government formed in Baghdad since a March 7 general election.
