JNN 26 Jan 2011 Lucknow : Thousands of Shia Muslims on Tuesday took out procession on the occasion of Chehlum (the 40th day of martyrdom of Imam Hussain at Karbala). The procession originated from Imambargah Nazim Saheb at 1 pm and passed through Tulsidas Marg, Nakhas, Bulaqi Adda and culminated at Talkatora Karbala.
Before the procession which was attended by thousands of mourners, Imam-e-Juma Maulana Kalbey Jawwad addressed a majlis highlighting the martyrdom of Imam Hussain. The procession included mourners draped in black clothes and members of several anjumans. The anjumans were reciting nauhas, marsiyas commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and his associates in Karbala. Shia Muslims also performed matam with zanjeers and Qama during the procession. Several taziyas and alams also accompanied the procession.
Heavy security arrangements and necessary traffic diversions were made for smooth passage of the procession. Besides the police force, contingents of Rapid Action Force (RAF) were also deputed who cordoned the whole procession to prevent any mishap. Both DM Anil Kumar Sagar and DIG DK Thakur along with senior administrative and police officials were also present during the procession.
Besides the main procession, the devotees in old city of Lucknow also buried their taziyas in various karbalas of the city.
