JNN 02 Jan 2011 : The British Foreign minister William Hague has said that the government supports the US military action and United Nations sanctions against the Ivory Coast.

Hague highlighted that the force would continue until the Ivory Coast President Laurent Gbagbo hands over the power to Alassane Ouattro, who is internationally recognized as the winner of the 28 November election, according to the state-run BBC.

Asking whether he would support invasion on Cote d’Ivoire, Hague answered, “Yes, in principle.”

Hague said that British troops would not be allocated to the African country, stressing that the government has already sent a military liaison to analyse the situation there.

“We have deployed a military liaison officer to the country to work on various contingencies with the French, but I’m not raising the possibility today of British forces being deployed.”

Hague added that Gbagbo’s official accounts have been frozen and that his power would depend on the support of the Ivorian Army.

“…it will run out of money in the coming weeks and that means it will run out of power…”
