Iran defuses bomb on Tehran-bound plane

barghi20090531093618250Iranian security officials successfully manage to defuse a bomb on a Tehran-bound passenger airliner, averting what could have been a major airborne catastrophe.
Within minutes from take-off, flight security officials aboard a late Saturday Kish Air flight en route to Tehran from the southern city of Ahvaz, discovered that a handmade bomb had been planted in the plane’s toilet, Fars news agency reported on Sunday.

After an emergency return to Ahvaz airport, all 131 passengers were safely evacuated.

Bomb disposal squad and security personnel arrived just in time to defuse the explosive device before it before it caused serious casualties.

Security officials have been on a sharp lookout for bomb threats after a deadly terror attack in southeastern Iran sent shockwaves around the country.

At least 25 people were killed and 125 others were injured when terrorists targeted a religious ceremony in the Shia Amir al-Momenin mosque in Zahedan. The mosque was partially destroyed by the blast.

The Pakistan-based Jundullah terror group has claimed responsibility for the mosque bombing, saying it was staged as part of their efforts to destabilize the country ahead of the June 12 elections.

While Jundullah terrorists flatly deny having links to Washington, an ABC news report in 2007 quoted US and Pakistani intelligence sources as saying that the terrorist group “has been secretly encouraged and advised by American officials” to subvert the government in Iran.

According to the ABC report, Jundullah militants have been ordered to “stage deadly guerrilla raids inside the Islamic Republic, kidnap Iranian officials and execute them on camera” all as part of a “programmatic objective to overthrow the Iranian government”.

Investigative journalist, Seymour Hersh, has also revealed in July that the US Congress had secretly agreed to US President, George W. Bush’s $400-million funding request for a major escalation in covert operations inside Iran.

Taliban continues Shia killings: Pak media

jalili20090511122045328The Wahhabi-minded Taliban insurgents continue to slaughter Shia Muslims across the lawless northwestern Pakistan, media reports reveal.
Countless incidents of massacres happened in northwestern town of Dera Ismail Khan and Kurram Agency over some past months.

“Taliban have gone about slaughtering their fellow-Muslims, especially in targeting the Shias of Kurram and Dera Ismail Khan. Also, it has to be said – and rather unfortunately – that this kind of Talibanization has been happening in the rest of the country…, albeit in a slightly different manner,”The News said in a report.

The Pakistani governments have been unwilling or unable to stop religious violence which has defamed the conflict-torn country, according to the daily.

In mid February, some 35 Shias were killed and 65 others were injured after a bomb ripped through a Shia Muslim leader’s funeral procession on in the northwestern town of Dera Ismail Khan.

In early February, at least 35 Shias were killed and 50 others were injured after a bomb exploded in the town of Dera Ghazi Khan in the central Punjab province.

In early April, a bomber struck a religious Shia gathering in Chakwal — some 90 km (60 miles) southeast of Islamabad in Punjab province– leaving at least 30 people killed and hundreds of others injured.
The extremists groups have embarked on an ‘ominous mission’ to ‘eliminate’ Shia elites across Pakistan — which became a safe haven for pro-Taliban and al-Qaeda-linked militants after the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.

Shia Muslims accuse that the Wahhabi terrorist groups such as al-Qaeda and Taliban have been receiving financial assistance and heavy weapons from some Arab countries such as Saudi Arabia over some past years to promote their violent campaign across the country.

Saudis have never denied such charges.

Moderate Sunni and Shia Muslims believe that Wahhabism has nothing to do with Islam and that it is a concept created by the global powers to fuel extremism.

The US and its western allies have fallen short of condemning the killings and their media outlets have also kept a silence against such lethal attacks.

This is while the Taliban-linked Wahhabi groups in Parachinar, Hangu district and much of the Kurram tribal agency have been killing dozens of Shia Muslims on a daily basis over the past few months.

This comes as no surprise as the Taliban have imposed a crippling blockade on Shia communities in some Pakistani regions raising concerns of a ‘dire humanitarian crisis’.

Some sources more than 2,000 Shia community members have been killed in the region since 2007.

The pro-Taliban anti-Shia groups have stretched the campaign toward the restive southwestern Pakistan as well.

Quetta, the capital of Pakistan’s restive southwestern Balochistan province has witnessed several instances of violence directed against the Hazara Shia community in recent months.

Moderate Pakistani Sunni groups also believe that leaving Shias at the mercy of the Taliban and their allied groups is a conspiracy against the country and Muslims.

Some peace activists have recently registered lawsuits against the Shia killings, saying that the international community must acknowledge the ‘genocide’ against the Shia Muslims in Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Interior Ministry Chief Rehman Malik has repeatedly promised to protect the Shia community members from the extremist groups across his conflict-torn country.

Shias say they make up one-third of Pakistan’s 160 million-strong population. Since the 1980s, thousands of people have been killed in violence-related incidents in Pakistan by extremist groups.

The killing of Shias is to such extent that has caused international outrage with rights groups and regional countries including Iran expressing concern over the ‘genocide’.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei urged the World Muslims to resist enemy efforts to fuel sectarianism.

“Those who try to sow discord among Shias and Sunnis are mercenaries of the enemy, whether they realize it or not,” the Leader said in the western Iranian city of Sanandaj on Tuesday.

“The miserable Salafi and Wahhabi groups who are fed petro-dollars to carry out terrorist acts in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and elsewhere, many of them are not aware that they are mercenaries of the enemy.” The leader added.

Supreme Leader's Message of Condolence

leader-condolThe Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has issued a message of condolence following the recent bloody terrorist attack in the southeastern Iranian city of Zahedan. The message refers to plots and conspiracies by ‘interventionist powers’, and their intelligence and spying agencies, which are trying to fuel tensions, sedition, and fratricide among Muslim communities. The message warns all Iranian people to be vigilant and aware of the enemies’ plots, and calls on officials to be on their guard, be aware of enemy plots, and maintain Islamic and national unity.
Excerpts from the message by the Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, are as follows:
The bloody terrorist incident in Zahedan which led to the martyrdom and injury of a number of worshippers and followers of the Holy Prophet’s Household (Peace be upon them) caused me great sadness, heartache and dismay. Murdering faithful and innocent individuals who had gathered in the House of God to worship and supplicate, followers of the Holy Prophet’s Household (Peace be upon them), is an enormous crime, whose perpetrators, their accomplices and facilitators God Almighty will not forgive easily. Those who have committed this terrorist crime, although they may be ignorant, misguided or angry, they have committed a big crime, and there is no doubt that those who have aided and abetted this crime, providing support for the terrorists, such as some ‘interventionist powers’, and their intelligence and spying agencies, are stained with the blood of the innocent victims of this bloody terror attack.
In his message the Supreme Leader said one of the persistent aims of the enemies of Iran has always been to stoke tensions, sedition, and fratricide among Muslim communities in this region, and in Iran in particular. He said it is only through vigilance that these plots can be foiled.
Elsewhere in the message the Supreme Leader stressed that security and political officials must be fully alert and vigilant, and do everything to protect the security of all Muslim peoples, and bring to justice all those responsible for this terrorist outrage.
In the end of his message, the Supreme Leader expressed his condolences to all the families of the victims who had lost their loved ones, wishing divine exultation for the martyrs of this terrorist attack, and a speedy recovery, for all those who had been injured.

Tehran's Friday Prayers Sermons

ahmadkhatami1Tehran’s Interim Friday Prayers Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khatami, has said the responsibility for the recent terrorist attack on a Shiite mosque in the southeastern Iranian city of Zahedan lies firmly at the feet of global arrogance. Speaking to a large crowd of Friday prayers worshippers and the faithful in Tehran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khatami emphasized that this terrorist attack bore all the hallmarks of US and Zionist involvement and was without a doubt carried out with US and Zionist backing. The terror attack left scores of people injured and martyred.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Seyyed Ahmad Khatami referred to last week’s trip to Kurdistan province by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, stressing that the visit was very useful in bringing closer the Shiite and Sunni communities in Kurdistan. He pointedly stressed that the objective behind last night’s terrorist attack on a mosque in Zahedan in southeastern Iran was to divide Shiites and Sunnis in that part of the country.
In further remarks, Tehran’s interim Friday prayers leader referred to the anniversary of the passing away of the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the late Imam Khomeini (May his soul rest in peace), pointing out the very valuable political principles enunciated by the late Imam. Seyyed Ahmad Khatami emphasized that Imam Khomeini’s politics were always based on Islam, as a central pivot, with plenty of emphasis on the Islamic Republic, obeying laws, fighting global arrogance and the bullying powers, and defending the rights of the oppressed Palestinians. He pointedly added: “When hardly anybody raised a voice in opposition to the Zionists, the late Imam Khomeini (May his souI rest in peace) founded the International Al-Quds Day, to draw attention to plight of the Palestinians and to support the Palestinian people’s cause.

UN issues desperate appeal to help Pakistanis

UNITED NATIONS: The U.N. humanitarian chief issued a desperate appeal Thursday for hundreds of millions of dollars to help 2.4 million Pakistanis who have fled the war against Taliban militants, warning that the U.N. can only sustain its current aid efforts for one month.

Last Friday, the United Nations revised an earlier appeal and urged donors to contribute $543 million to help the displaced Pakistanis through the end of December.

U.N. humanitarian chief John Holmes said so far only $118 million have come in just 21 percent of the amount and “not remotely sufficient.” He noted that the total includes $17 million from the U.N.’s emergency fund.

“We need to scale up this effort very significantly, in line with the scale and the speed of the displacement,” Holmes said. “We cannot sustain the effort we are making at the moment for more than a month without some new and significant resources being contributed by the donors.”

He said the most immediate needs are funds for food, shelter, cooking utensils, water and sanitation facilities and health services.

Holmes spoke to reporters after meeting with representatives from between 80 and 90 countries to appeal for help. He was joined by Pakistan’s U.N. ambassador.

The United Nations hopes that donors will contribute 60-70percent of the $543 million “within a few weeks,” Holmes said.

More than 1.9 million Pakistanis have fled the recent conflict centered on the northwestern Swat Valley in recent weeks, joining more than 500,000 others who have left their homes since last summer, Holmes said.

While about 90 percent of the 2.4 million people who have been displaced are living with family members or in rented accommodation, he said 220,000 are now in 26 camps south of the battle zone 12 of which the U.N. opened in the last few weeks.

Holmes said the U.N. is concerned that the number of Pakistanis fleeing the fighting is increasing and could rise further if fighting worsens in Waziristan.

Ahmadinejad: We are after ultimate advancement of Iran

ahm23President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Tehran on Wednesday evening said in an aired presidential campaign address: “Advancement means improvement in economic, cultural and political fields, in accordance with our definitions.” According to IRIB World Service, this presidential hopeful focused on economic development issue, saying, “I am opposed to using this phrase without offering our own indigenous definition for it, since in that case anyone would have his own interpretation of it.”
Ahmadinejad added, “Some people had defined advancement by resorting to the foreign indices; based on which they intended to define both cultural and literary phenomena, and some of them in early years after the victory of the Islamic Revolution even argued that we need to seek for definitions and economy, based on foundations of development.”
Ahmadinejad pointed out that we are after optimum advancement of the country, reiterating, “True advancement is materialized when it can be observed harmoniously in economic, cultural and political fields, in accordance with our own definitions of them.”
President Ahmadinejad said that the conditions are strongly changing at the international scene in our favor, arguing, “The literature of the Islamic Revolution has found its place in the world and we notice today that most nations are dissatisfied with their status quo, having lost their hope for improvement of affairs, relying on internal apparatus.”

Hamas: Abbas conceding West Bank to Israel

barahamHamas has charged Head of Palestine’s self-rule Authority Mahmoud Abbas of granting concessions on the illegal Zionist settlements in the occupied West Bank. According to Press TV, the protest came after Ahmed Qurei, a senior aide to Mahmoud Abbas, suggested that Zionist settlers in the West Bank could be allowed to live in the occupied territories as Palestinian citizens in a future Palestinian state.
Fawzi Barhoum, a Hamas spokesman was quoted by Xinhua as saying “Qurei’s statements are dangerous. They give the Zionist settlements a legitimate cover to steal the Palestinian people’s land.”
He added “This move aims at getting Israel out of its crisis especially after the world consensually stressed an end to the settlement issue on the Palestinian land,” “The settlement is a sort of aggression that must be resisted.”

Supreme Leader receives Afghan, Pakistani presidents

leader-zardari-karzaiThe trilateral meeting of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan concluded its work in Tehran on Sunday by issuing a 25-article statement. In the statement covering important issues within the framework of trilateral cooperation, the three countries’ presidents stressed that they would use each other’s experiences for development and progress. The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in a meeting with Afghan and Pakistani presidents after the end of the trilateral meeting voiced strong support for such trilateral agreements and pointed to the continuation of such meetings. He underlined that cooperation is not limited to security and political issues, but it is a good ground for expanding economic and constructive cooperation between the three countries.
Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan have religious, cultural, and historical commonalities as well as common enemies. Experts believe that extremism, terrorism and the destructive phenomenon of narcotic drugs and lack of conducive grounds for using economic capacities are among the problems which have overshadowed the advancement and development of regional cooperation, and the elimination of these problems depends on the serious will and efforts of regional countries. In fact, as the Supreme Leader underlined, extremism has created many problems for the regional nations and governments and it is also threatening others, particularly those who were the main cause of creating such extremism with their money and policies. It is obvious that in this framework, the United States as the main element creating these problems is strongly hated among the regional people. It is clear that security is an essential condition for development and progress. From this viewpoint, the trilateral cooperation between Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan in terms of security would also have an impact on boosting various economic, cultural and inter-provincial cooperation, especially when the three countries have common viewpoints about various international and regional issues.
At present, Pakistan’s efforts to counter insecurity and the will of Afghanistan to seriously tackle the problem of drug production are among significant moves that should be continued and require regional and international support.
Finalizing the contract for exporting Iran’s gas to Pakistan and the signing of a memorandum of understanding in this regard is also another step forward for regional cooperation.
As the Iranian President, Dr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad pointed out, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan can reach common goals by relying on their commonalities in the area of civilization and culture and organizing a deep-rooted and sustainable cooperation.

Anniversary of Liberation of Southern Lebanon

hizbullah460May 25 marks an epic in the history of Lebanon. Nine years ago on May 25, the flag of victory of Lebanon’s Hezbollah Resistance Movement was hoisted in Lebanon and southern Lebanon was liberated from the occupation of the Usurper State of Israel after 22 years. At that time, the Zionist regime’s army, under the command of Zionist regime’s premier Ehud Barak, unilaterally and hastily pulled out of southern Lebanon and voluntarily admitted to Israel’s failure in Lebanon and in confrontation with Lebanon’s Hezbollah Resistance Movement.
Many pundits believe that the humiliating withdrawal of the Zionist regime from Lebanon’s soil after two decades goes to show the inability and frustration of the Zionist entity’s war machine in confrontation with Lebanese combatants and Hezbollah Resistance Movement. In fact, Hezbollah had turned southern Lebanon into a quagmire for the Zionists. The Zionist regime, for the first time, occupied southern Lebanon in 1978. Meanwhile, the international community reacted to this occupation. The issuance of United Nations Security Council Resolution 425 at that year was due to the Zionist regime’s expansionist policies and forced the Zionists to leave Lebanon’s soil. However, the Usurper State of Israel hatched new conspiracies and stationed a mercenary army, still maintaining its domination on southern Lebanon. Thereafter, in 1982, the Zionist regime’s army launched a wide-scale assault on southern Lebanon, deploying its forces in that region.
The resistance movement announced its existence for the first time in 1982 as the only option and approach for confronting the Usurper State of Israel. During the occupation of Lebanon, United Nations’ muted reaction to Zionist regime’s crimes showed this fact to the Lebanese people that the only way to push Israel’s army from their homeland is anti-Zionist resistance.
The outcome of combats of Lebanese resistance movement after pushing Israel out of Lebanon’s territory in the year 2000, took shape in the victory of Lebanon against the Zionist regime in the 33-Day Lebanon War.
The presence of Lebanon’s Hezbollah Movement in the military and political scenes has turned Lebanon into a powerful country.
Under these circumstances, and on the 9th anniversary of victory of Lebanon’s resistance movement against the Zionist regime’s army, Lebanon prepares itself for the imminent victory of Lebanon’s Hezbollah Movement in that country’s legislative election.

Security forces storm into Mingora: ISPR

security-forcesISLAMABAD: Security forces stormed into the main town in the Swat valley and fought street battles Saturday in a bid to capture the capital of the northwest district from militant control, the military said.

The director general of the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Major General Athar Abbas told a news conference that parts of Mingora had already been cleared and that 17 militants, including an important commander of Matta Usman, were killed during the most recent fighting of Pakistan’s northwest offensive. He said another important commander; Khursheed Qasai has been arrested from Watta Kali area.

The ground assault on Mingora, a city with an estimated population of around 300,000 — of whom many have fled — marks the most crucial part of the military’s blistering offensive against militants in the scenic valley.

Mingora has effectively been under militant control for weeks and — as the administrative and business hub of the entire district — its capture is essential for the military to be able to declare ultimate victory in Swat.

“Today the most important phase of operation Rah-e-Rast, the clearance of Mingora, has commenced,” Abbas said.

“In the last 24 hours, security forces have entered Mingora; 17 miscreants-terrorists, including important miscreant commander were killed,” he said.

The military reported intense exchanges of fire and said one would-be suicide bomber was shot dead and that another “suicide vehicle” rigged with explosives had been destroyed.

Troops had been slowly tightening their encirclement of the city for days and Abbas said that militant supplies had been cut off.

Nasrallah Sheds Light on Zionist Plots

nasrollahSecretary General of Lebanon’s legendry anti-terrorist Movement, Hezbollah, Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, on the 61st anniversary of the occupation of Palestine by the Zionists, said that the Zionist regime is a cancer and the cause of all wars and crises in the Middle East, while emphasizing all Arab and Muslim countries’ support for the Palestinian people. On the catastrophic occupation anniversary, known among the Palestinians as the Day of Nakba (The Catastrophe Day), Nasrallah emphasized that such a criminal regime can never be recognized as a legitimate government. On the forthcoming military maneuvers of the Zionist regime, he said the Zionist regime has decided to strengthen its warmongering policies as per admitted by the regime’s war minister who had said the games were steps towards war. The Hezbollah Secretary General warned against a new war by Israel in the region, calling on all people and Lebanese officials to be on high alert vis-à-vis the plots hatched by the Zionist illegal regime. Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah reiterated that despite the entire plots hatched by the enemies, the brave Palestinian nation will resist, as ever before, under the most intolerable conditions, continuing its victorious Intifadha movement under such conditions that everyone expected them to surrender. He added, the objective behind the establishment of such a regime at the heart of the Islamic countries was sowing the seeds of wars and crises in the region, while shedding light on the usurper regime’s merciless massacres of the defenseless and innocent people in the region. Nasrallah underlined that the Resistance is in its high level of readiness to thwart the Zionist threats, a matter understood well by the Zionists. The Zionist regime has always put in jeopardy the security and stability of the region while moving in line with its warmongering nature. The regime wanted in fact to impose its will on the regional countries by creating a general panic through its brutalities in practice along with its military show-offs. In line with the same policies, the Hezbollah Secretary General said, the Zionists have resorted to any kind of inhuman measure to make the Palestinians to surrender and yield to their wills. However, with a quick contemplation over the Resistance status and conditions, one could easily understand that the people in Palestine and Lebanon are fully aware of the Zionist plots, while keeping the Resistance bastion highly impenetrable coupled with military and spiritual capabilities. By the way, considering the Zionists’ defeats in the 33-day war against Lebanon in summer of 2006 and the recent 22-day attack on Gaza, Israeli usurper state will get to nowhere but mere failure.

Major terror plot in Karachi foiled

photo_lg_karachi1KARACHI: The Special Investigation Unit (SIU), Karachi, has foiled plans for major terrorist activities in the city by capturing six militants belonging to al-Qaeda and the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) from an inn in Sohrab Goth, sources said on Friday.

During a raid on a tip-off, five suicide bombing jackets, more than 10 kilogrammes of C-4 explosive material, several guns, a large quantity of ammunition and electronic items were also recovered, the sources added.

There were reports that after the military operation in Swat, Buner and Dir, the militants, belonging to al-Qaeda and the TTP, came to Karachi to disturb the peaceful environment of the city by launching suicide attacks on Ulema, Imambargahs, important installations and killing personnel belonging to the Karachi Police and intelligence agencies.

The sources said Capital City Police Officer Waseem Ahmed, taking note of the presence of militants in the city, directed SSP Raja Omer Khattab of the SIU Karachi to dismantle the network of terrorists.

Intelligence sources said during the investigation, SSP Khattab was tipped off that the militants were present at an inn near a petrol pump situated near New Sabzi Mandi, Sohrab Goth. The police raided the area and after a brief encounter arrested Abu Huzefa, Hafiz Saeed, Haris and others.

The militants were shifted to an unknown location for interrogation. During the course of investigation, it was uncovered that the militants belonged to al-Qaeda and the TTP and had received training in Afghanistan to carry out bombings and other terrorist acts.

The intelligence sources said after the military operation in Swat and elsewhere, the militants, belonging to various outfits, came to Karachi from South Waziristan, Swat, Miranshah and Buner. They were directed to generate funds for organisations fighting in the tribal areas by robbing banks, moneychangers, jewellery markets and kidnapping millionaire businessmen for ransom.

They added the police found a list of Ulema who were on their hit list. The militants had gathered information about the Ulema and their addresses. The police also found a list of police officers who were to be their targets — SSP Mohammad Farooq Awan, SSP Raja Omar Khattab, SSP Khurram Waris, SSP Mohammad Fayyaz Khan, DSP Chaudhry Amir Hameed, DSP Chaudhry Safdar and others.

The militants had also gathered information about addresses and vehicles of officers belonging to the Sindh Police and intelligence agencies, as they had made a crackdown against their organisations in the past. Senior police officials will hold a press conference in a few days to announce details obtained during the investigation.

Around 1,500 demonstrators marched through the working class district of Kypseli towards the Omonia Square in the city centre, where there were scuffles with officers and tear gas was fired, said police.

Some demonstrators also threw dustbins and stones at the police station in Kypseli district, injuring one officer and damaging a car. Officers fired tear gas to break up the crowd.

Immigrants rights groups have called another protest for Friday. Police said they had opened an investigation into the affair

Biden trip to Lebanon draws Hezbollah ire

BEIRUT: Vice President Joe Biden, the most senior U.S. official to visit Lebanon in 26 years, met President Michel Suleiman on Friday, 16 days before an election that may shift power away from a Western-backed coalition.

Lebanese vote on June 7 in a poll that pits an alliance including Hezbollah.

Hezbollah criticised Biden’s visit, which followed one by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in April, as meddling in Lebanon, and denounced U.S. support for its arch-foe Israel.

“The high American interest in Lebanon raises strong suspicion as to the real reason behind it, especially since it has become a clear and detailed intervention in Lebanese affairs,” Hezbollah said in a statement.

Biden, who visited Serbia and Kosovo earlier this week, was also due to meet Prime Minister Fouad Siniora and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri before joining Defence Minister Eliasal-Murr for an announcement on U.S. military aid to Lebanon.

ISIS warns of Pakistan's latest nuclear drive

pak-nuclearA US arms control institute has warned that Pakistan’s nuclear weapons programs could threaten the region.

“Pakistan is indeed progressing in a strategic plan to improve the destructiveness and deliverability of its nuclear arsenal,” the Institute for Science and International Security said.

The institute released satellite photos on Tuesday that showed the expansion of a chemical plant complex near Dera Ghazi Khan.

The plant produces uranium hexalfuoride and uranium metal, materials used to produce nuclear weapons, the ISIS report said.

Photos also suggested the Pakistanis “have added a second plutonium separation plant adjacent to the old one” at a site near Rawalpindi, according to the report.

The expansion would enable Pakistan to build smaller, lighter plutonium-fission weapons and thermonuclear weapons that employ “plutonium as the nuclear trigger and enriched and natural enriched uranium in the secondary,” it said.

The ISIS report stated that the nuclear progress “complicates efforts to improve the security of Pakistan’s nuclear assets.”

In response, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that its nuclear programs were not “static”.

“Our nuclear deterrence is an indispensable factor of stability in the region,” the Foreign Ministry statement asserted.

KARACHI: Jaffaria Alliance Pakistan (JAP) demanded of the President, the Prime Minister and the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan to immediately extend ongoing anti-terrorists operation in Dera Ismail Khan where more than 126 Shia Muslims are being assassinated since March 2008 to date.

Former Senator Allama Abbas Kumaili, the alliance’s chief said that government must fulfill the alliance’s demand in one month.

“Punish the terrorists and their patrons and the abettors for genocide of Shia Muslims without any discrimination, Allama Kumaili urged at a press conference at Karachi Press Club on Friday.

Maulana Hussain Masoodi, Maulana Azhar Naqvi, Allama Baqar Zaidi and others were present on the occassion.

He warned that if the government would not order for the operation against the terrorists and militants in the D. I. Khan, Jaffaria Alliance would call for a countrywide protest.

“Coffin-wearing Shiites from all over Pakistan will march to D. I .Khan and will stage sit-in against the terrorism and the government for lack of action against terrorists,” he warned.

Allama Kumaili further said that they would adopt all the appropriate measures to raise their voice against the genocide of Shiites.

“We will have to exercise our right to contact foreign ambassadors, international human rights organizations, and other forums to inform them about the genocide of Shiites,” he announced.

The Jaffaria Alliance chief said that the world overstate the incidents of anti-Semitism because Shia Muslims were experiencing growing menace of anti-Shi’ism in many parts of Pakistan in particular.

He also demanded of the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to take suo motto action against injustices done to and the killings of Shia Muslims in Pakistan.

He pointed out that a large number of Taliban militants of Bannu and Malakand were migrating to the D. I. Khan where he said the civil administration and police officials support Taliban.

“We support the initiative of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani against the Taliban terrorists and militants. We appeal to our Pakistani brothers to support the anti-terrorists operation without any discrimination of color and cast,” he urged.

Allama Kumaili appreciated the just position of Sunni scholars and custodians of shrines against the Taliban brand Shariah.

“Sunni scholars and custodians have taken a courageous stand against the enemies of Islam and Pakistan. We extend our hand of friendship to them,” he said.

Former Senator recalled that killings of Sunni and Shia Muslims were started in the 1980s when military dictator Zia ul Haq, U.S. administration ally had ruled the country. He said that remnants of Gen. Zia continued to play their dirty game. He also criticized the U.S. for its support to the terrorists. He asked the ANP’s NWFP government why they were silent against the target killings of Shiites in the D. I. Khan.

He cited that the peace accord between the both local groups have remained inapplicable due to the interference of Taliban.

He regretted that the government had failed to protect life, respect and properties of its citizens living in Kurram Agency.

“On one hand, media turned a blind eye to the plights of residents of Kurram Agency and on the other hypothesis and theories were being circulated as if the Kurram Agency was helped from outsiders,” he said.

Kumaili said that points leading to Kurram Agency were occupied by Taliban terrorists and their allies. He asked the theory-makers to tell how they can get food and medicines. He said that Kurram Agency was encircled and it was turned into an open-air jail for its residents for a long time. Indian stocks surge on election

indian-stock

Indian stocks have surged after the Congress party won a surprisingly decisive victory in national elections.

The benchmark Sensex index jumped 17%, or 1,306 points, to 14,272, forcing the Bombay Stock Exchange to shut down for the day.

Trading had already been halted earlier, after investors pushed stocks above their daily maximum limit.

The Congress victory gives the party a strong mandate to continue reforms that have spurred Indian economic growth.

‘Big bang’

The broader Nifty index, traded on the National Stock Exchange, also rose 17%, over 500 points, to 4,308. Trading was also halted earlier and the stock exchange was closed down.

Meanwhile, the Indian rupee jumped over 2% to 48.32 a dollar, its biggest gain since 1998.

“This was the big bang event that investors were looking for,” said Hitesh Agrawal, head of research with Angel Broking. “We expect the government to have greater flexibility to boost economic reform and growth from here on.”

The Congress-led alliance is projected to win 260 seats, with rivals the BJP on 157. This confounded projections of a close election.

The communist parties, who had blocked reforms in insurance, pension funds and the selling off of state-owned companies, lost more than half their parliamentary seats.

Shares in some of India’s largest companies also climbed. Reliance gained 37% and ICICI Bank jumped 25.3%, while carmaker Tata gained 40% and IT firm Infosys rose 9.8%.

The Sensex had climbed 26% already this year before the Congress Party victory was declared over the weekend.
