Residents said a majlis of Shia community was in progress in the Imambargah when the mortars were fired. “If the mortar shells hit the Imambrgah it would have resulted in huge causalities,” they added.

The private contractor had asked them to collect the explosives from Nowshera and bring the same to the tribal area but they could not present any permit, licence or official permission for transporting explosives in such a huge quantity.

Pakistani Shia Clerics rejected deal with any Taliban group

A grand loya jirga of Shia clerics in which Turi & Bangash tribes held on Monday in headquarter of Kurram Agency in which more than five hundred tribal elders of two main tribes and six sub tribes particpated. In this loya jirga Shia tribal leaders rejected any possible deal or agrrement with any taliban group including haqani network for using the land of Turi & Bangash for terrorism.

Shia Tribal clerics in their speeches cleared that they are Anti Taliban and there Sponsors USA. They further told that this is the plan of USA and Occupied Forces that when they want to enter or occupy the land or locaility first they enter thier extremists agents like Al-Qaeda and Taliban, the best example is Iraq, Afghanistan and Waziristan where occupation and drone attacks are  continued. But further added that they will never allow this international game of so called War on Terror. The best proof is American investigative journalist wayine madcine recent report .

Turi Bangash tribal elders also denounced puppets of establishment in the name of tribal elders who particpated in talks with Haqani Network at Peshawar and Islamabad. They further added that these puppet agents have no crediibilty in the area even in thier families.

Meanwhile Grand loya Jirga of Shia Turi & Bangash tribes also criticized the civil and military bureaucracy for giving them treatment as of a step child and doing nothing to lift the siege and economic blockade on Turi and Bangash tribes in Parachinar and surronding upper Kurram.

They also mentioned that in negotiations in Peshawar and Islamabad Haqani Network on the instructions of military establishment offered that the closed thall Parachinar road will be opened With a  gaurantee that from the day of agreement no Shia will be hurt or   murdered. Which clearly shows that since 2007 upto now more than 1200 Shia were martyred, more than 5000 injured and more than 200 kidnaped; while  six Shia are still missing from Charkhel Lower Kurram govt convey attack. These figures clearly shows that all these crimes for the last  four years , which includes the continous siege of the area was done on the behest of the  military estibleshement. These figures are more than the attrocities of Indian occupied forces in Kashmir ,therefore instead of shedding crocodile tears on state terrorisim in Kashmir, all concern should focus on state terrorisim in Pakistani Gaza:  Parachinar. These speakers added that to pressurize the locals for accepting the Islamabad  agrreement the Pak-Afghan border was completly sealed to stop even the limited supply of food stuff and life saving medicines. The tribal elders blamed the government and especially the establishment that they wants to do genocide of Turis and Bangshs.

In the endof loya jirga passed some resolutions  which says that :

  • Shia Turi Bangash tribes will survive on even  grass (due to imposed and continous cripiling siege) but will never allow Taliban on thier land,
  • Loya Jirga also criticised the role of civil society and human rights groups who even  highlight the non issues for thier vasted intrestes and does  not highlights  the real issues and humantiran catastrophe Such as  Pakistani Gaza  : The Parrachinar,
  • Loya jirga demanded the Government and security forces to stop the state terrorisim by ending the inhuman siege of Patriotic Turi and Bangash tribes who have sacrificed there lives  in 1947, 1948, 1965, 1971 Kargil and post 9/11 the figures of casuilities of Turi and Bangash tribes serving in secuurity forces is highest than all other tribals of FATA, but yet they receive step child’s  treatment and state terrorism which is unbearable, Government should take urgent steps to end the siege of the Thall – Parachinar Road if they consider Parachinar as Part of Pakistan.

The Pakistani Shia tribe that is taking on the Taliban

JNN 10.10.10 Parachinar : Pakistani tribal district of Kurram, where members of the Turi tribe are waging a war of attrition with the Taliban.

A couple of miles east of Alizai town in the Kurram tribal district, north-western Pakistan, boundary walls of two large compounds are rising fast.

Elders of the region’s largest tribe, the Turi, say they are building homes for eight families from western parts of Kurram who have volunteered to resettle here.

“Apart from a house, each family will get four acres of land for agricultural use,” says Haji Hashim Ali, a Turi elder and in charge of the community project.

“We hope to attract more than 200 families to this colony in a year’s time,” he says.

Community volunteers

The idea is to boost Turi presence in an area that belongs to the tribe but where the population has thinned out.

That has allowed others to step in and bring Taliban militants with them, Mr Ali explains.

The Turi tribe, which belongs to the Shia sect of Islam, abhors the Taliban who adhere to a hardline Sunni form of the faith and consider Shias to be non-Muslims.

Two years ago, the Turis fought a major battle with the Taliban in the surroundings of Alizai.

They are now consolidating their hold on the region.

To the south of Alizai, across the Kurram river, the tribe is building a 14km (8.6 miles) road to link Alizai with the Turi stronghold of Parachinar in the west.
Syed Abid JanWhen [the Taliban] went away, I looked around. My grandson was dead. He had fallen on me. I had fallen on my wife. She was also dead” Syed Abid Jan

The Shurko road detours the Sunni-dominated town of Sadda, which is located on the region’s main road that links Parachinar with Alizai and the rest of Pakistan.

In Parachinar, the district centre, and all along the Shurko road, community volunteers man checkpoints and also guard the region’s airport.

There are no military checkpoints anywhere in the Turi lands from Parachinar to Alizai – and no Taliban.

To a casual observer, this comes as a surprise because Kurram is the most important strategic site from where to launch guerrilla attacks inside Afghanistan.

Its western tip is only 90km (56 miles) from the Afghan capital, Kabul.

Local people say that Taliban started pouring into the area in 2006 and set up base at a mosque in Parachinar.

“When we came to know of their presence, we took up the matter with the authorities, but they refused to expel them, saying the decisions were taken at a much higher level,” says Ali Akbar Turi, another local elder”.

Bombed

Fighting between the locals and the Taliban erupted in April 2007, and dozens of people were killed over the next year.

evoid of local support, the Taliban were forced to retreat to their bases in Sadda and Alizai in eastern Kurram, but from there they enforced a blockade of Kurram’s only road link to Pakistan.

“Our traders lost millions of dollars worth of merchandise when our trucks were bombed and burned down, and dozens of our people were beheaded,” recalls Haji Hashim Ali.

In August 2008, local elders decided that if the army wasn’t prepared to deal with the Taliban, it was time to raise a tribal force and storm the militant bases themselves.

Najib Hussain, a Kurram resident, fought on a front that finally led to the fall of Bugzai, a village that housed the Taliban’s main base in the region, just across the river from Alizai.

“We had about 100 to 150 fighters. We would rotate them in four hourly shifts,” he says.

“Fighting was intense. During the first 27 days I only came down twice from my position on the hill to take a bath. On the 27th day, I was hit and had to be carried away to the hospital.”

It took the tribal force 46 days of fighting – and the loss of around 400 fighters – to inflict a final defeat on Taliban.

Nearly two years after the war, this entire area remains free of Taliban.

Kurram is one of the few tribal districts in Pakistan where the Christian population lives in peace

‘Trapped”

But further east, the Taliban continue to block their exit route.

People can only leave Kurram in convoys, and only when the government provides security. Even then, they are regularly attacked.

In the last attack in July, suspected Taliban gunmen killed 18 people travelling in a passenger van from Parachinar to Peshawar, the regional capital.

Syed Abid Jan, 75, was one of four survivors.

“We started in the convoy but our van fell behind,” he says.

“In Charkhel area, some 20km (12.4 miles) east of Alizai, about 10 gunmen fired at the van, causing it to overturn. Then they came closer and fired at the passengers trapped inside from all sides.”

Mr Jan was hit in the back.

“When they went away, I looked around. My grandson was dead. He had fallen on me. I had fallen on my wife. She was also dead.”

After three years of road blockades, the intensity of war has left a mark on the people of Kurram.

Trading and development work have come to a halt, much of the infrastructure of health, education and agriculture has been destroyed, and there is of course the emotional toll.

“A friend of mine told me to beware of going mad. I think that warning has kept me from going mad entirely,” says Aqeel Hussain, the owner of a petrol station in Alizai.

“But sometimes I think I’m half mad. My blood pressure shoots up sometimes. It never used to happen before.”

After the fall of Bugzai, the Taliban twice offered to guarantee the safety of the road from Kurram to Peshawar in return for access for their militants through Kurram into Afghanistan.

But this is an offer which the people of Kurram say they are determined never to accept.

Wahabi Militants kill Shia travelers in Kurrum Agency Pakistan

JNN 18.07.10 Pro-Taliban militants have opened fire on a convoy in Pakistan’s restive northwest, killing 16 Shia Muslims and injuring several others.

According to Pakistani officials, the bus convoy was heading from Parachinar in Kurram Agency to the city of Peshawar.

“Sixteen people from the Shiite community have been killed and four were injured in the attack,” a senior security official said in Peshawar.

A Press TV correspondent reported on Saturday that those killed included several women and children.

Officials said some of those wounded were in critical condition.

The convoy came under attack as it was escorted by Pakistani security forces.

The road linking the region with Peshawar often remains closed for security concerns. Civilian convoys have repeatedly asked for the country’s security personnel to protect them.

Shia Muslims in Pakistan’s Kurram Agency have been facing a humanitarian crisis since November 2007 when pro-Taliban militants cut off the area from the rest of the country.

According to local sources, more than 2,000 Shia Muslims have been killed in the region since the start of the campaign by pro-Taliban and al-Qaeda-linked militants.

The extremist groups have launched a violent campaign against the Shia Muslims, and are stretching their campaign southwards.

Quetta, the capital of Pakistan’s restive Balochistan Province has witnessed several instances of violence against the Hazara Shia community in recent months.

Several Shia gatherings have also been targeted in the central province of Punjab over the past few months.

Shia sources say they make up one-third of Pakistan’s population of nearly 160 million. Since the 1980s, thousands of people have been killed in sectarian-related incidents in Pakistan

Tribes vow to expel Mehsud militants

JNN 05.06.10 WANA: Members of a Pakistan Pashtun tribe vowed on Friday to raise a militia aimed at forcing militants loyal to Pakistani Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud from their lands on the Afghan border.

Hakimullah is regarded as enemy number one of Pakistan as his militants have unleashed a wave of bomb and suicide attacks across the country in recent years.

The Pakistani army mounted a major offensive against them in their South Waziristan bastion in October.

Hakimullah comes from the Mehsud tribe, a major Pashtun tribe living in South Waziristan.

Though the military says it has destroyed most of the bases of Mehsud militants, Hakimullah and other leaders of the Pakistani Taliban have survived the offensive.

A large number of militants have fled to nearby regions while many fighters are also believed to have taken refuge in territories controlled by the Wazir tribe, the second major tribe in South Waziristan and the Mehsuds’ traditional rivals.

The government has been pressing the Wazir tribe to dislodge militants from its territory.

Elders from the Wazir tribe agreed to raise a traditional tribal militia, known as a “Lashkar,” to expel Mehsud militants from their areas.

“We promised to keep the peace and we will force militants to leave our areas within a week,” Wazir tribal elder Mohammad Ajmal told a gathering of around 400 tribal leaders in Wana, the main town of Waziristan. He spoke after a meeting with government authorities.

“We will not let anyone to ruin the peace in Wana,” he added.

Six Shia Kidnapped Truckers Found martyred Near Parachinar

Police found the bodies of six Shia truck drivers who were kidnapped a few days ago in a restive northwestern town, officials said.

the Shia truck drivers were shot dead and their bodies were found in Thal district, local police official Abdul Rehman said on Saturday.

“A letter found in the pocket of one dead truck driver said that if anyone supplied goods to the Parachinar Shia community, he will be treated like this,” Rehman said.

A police spokesman confirmed the incident, but did not identify the suspects, saying an investigation was in progress.

Some local sources say that more than 2,000 Shia community members have been martyred in the region since 2007. Since the 1980s, thousands of Shia Muslims have been killed in violence-related incidents in Pakistan by extremist groups. Kurram agency, a federally administered tribal area (FATA), has a population of more than 0.8 million Shia Muslims who suffered from brutalities of Taliban terrorists much more than any other religious or ethnic community.

Shia Muslims of Kurram Agency (Parachinar) had to travel to Pakistani territories via Afghanistan because the government and army of Pakistan lacked their writ in the areas leading to Parachinar.

Six Shia Kidnapped Truckers Found Dead Near Parachinar

the drivers were shot dead and their bodies were found in Thal district, local police official Abdul Rehman said.

“A letter found in the pocket of one dead truck driver said that if anyone supplied goods to the Parachinar Shia community, he will be treated like this,” Rehman said.

Parachinar, the main town of Kurram tribal district, is a sectarian flashpoint where activists from the rival Shia and Sunni Muslim sects have clashed in the past.

A police spokesman confirmed the incident, but did not identify the suspects, saying an investigation was in progress.

Shias account for about 20 per cent of Pakistan’s Sunni-dominated population. The two communities usually coexist peacefully, but more than 4,000 people have died in outbreaks of sectarian violence since the late 1980s.

Attacks by extremists, meanwhile, have killed more than 3,100 people since July 2007. Most attacks are blamed on the Pakistani Taliban.

Separately, militants early Saturday blew up a boys’ middle school in Alingarh village of Mohmand tribal district, where troops are hunting Taliban militants, local administration chief Amjad Ali Khan said.

“The school was destroyed in the bombing, but there were no casualties,” Khan told agencies.

Taliban militants have destroyed 36 government school buildings in Mohmand since 2009.

12 SHIA MARTYRED, 40 INJURED IN TAL BOMB BLAST ON SHIA CONVOY

At least 12 Shia Muslims were martyred and 40 others injured in a roadside bomb attack on convoy at Parachinar Road in Tal, Hangu Thursday. The road has been declared sensitive by the security forces.  Fifteen school-going children are among the injured.  According to the Shiite News Correspondent, the roadside bomb attack hit a passenger bus near a petrol pump at Tehsil Tal area of Dandor.

There is a frequent movement of security forces in the area and heavy contingents of security officials were deployed near the blast scene. Those injured have been transferred to the CMH hospital where the condition of some of the injured is said to be critical. Security forces and people in the locality have started the relief activities.

The conovy of Shia passengers of Kurram Agency Parachinar was passing from this area are accompanied by 4-5 vehicles of security forces usually as this road has been declared sensitive already.

Eye witnesses told the Shiite News that out of 12 shia Muslims of Kurram Agency were martyred inclduing 5  men, three women and two children. They said that the remaining buses, which escpase from the bomb blast are now moving towards the AliZai area of Kurram Agency. However, Some Shia families are still at Tehsil Tal in the houses of Shia people of the area.

“Our convoy was hit by a big explosion. It’s all chaos here. I myself have seen four dead, two of them are children. I have seen four wounded women,” said witness Javed Hussain, who was in the convoy of vehicles carrying Shia Muslims to the city of Peshawar.

Medics say death toll is expected to rise as some of the injured were said to be in critical condition.

The incident comes after a string of sectarian attacks on Shia Muslims in recent months undermined the already deteriorating security of the insurgency-hit country.

This is while the Taliban-linked Wahhabi groups in Parachinar, Hangu district and much of the Kurram tribal agency have embarked on a series of fatal attacks on Shia Muslims.

Some local sources say that more than 2,000 Shia community members have been martyred in the region since 2007. Since the 1980s, thousands of Shia Muslims have been killed in violence-related incidents in Pakistan by extremist groups. Shia Muslims of Kurram Agency (Parachinar) had to travel to Pakistani territories via Afghanistan because the government and army of Pakistan lacked their writ in the areas leading to Parachinar.

The Shia Muslims of Parachinar, Jaffaria Alliance of Shia organisations, Imamia Sttudents Organization and Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen of Shia groups have condemned the criminal silence of United Nations Human Rights Council, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, International Crisis Group and Human Rights Organisation of Pakistan (HRCP), civil society, NGOs and lawyers organisations towards the worst violation of human rights of Shia Muslims.

They also condemned the Western governments that are self-claimed champions of human rights. They said that hapless Shia Muslims suffer from genocide, massacre and pogrom-like anti-Shiism since early 1980s but no serious practical step has been taken so far against the perpetrators of genocide of Shia Muslims in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Saudis continue raids after truce offer

saudiaShia Houthi fighters in Yemen say Saudi air raids continue to strike northern areas of the country even after their leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi called for a ceasefire with Riyadh. In a statement released by al-Houthi’s office, the fighters said Saudi warplanes carried out attacks on al-Maran region in north of the country.Several other civilians were wounded in the attacks. The air raids were launched against the fighters after they withdrew from at least 46 positions along the Saudi-Yemeni border. According to the statement, the pull-back by the fighters came as a gesture of goodwill to end the three-month clashes in the region. Saudi Arabia joined the Yemeni government’s campaign against the Houthi fighters in November 2009. In a message posted on the internet on Monday, al-Houthi offered a truce to Saudi Arabia to avoid further civilian casualties. He however threatened to wage an “open war” should Riyadh continue attacks on northern Yemen.
