Australian Government to spend millions to fight spread of Wahhabism

Ahlul Bayt News Agency , The Australian Government will be earmarking millions of dollars to check the spread of extremist Wahhabis who are far from Islamic thought but kill innocent people in the name of Islam. The measure comes as part of a Federal Budget package to boost national security.

The Federal Budget to be announced on Tuesday is especially significant as it comes in an election-year. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s Government is focusing on strengthening national security to appease Australian citizens.

There has been heightened concern over the security issue following a deluge of asylum-seekers who manage to enter the country unintercepted.

In view of these concerns, the Government will announce “preventative” measures to counter the growth of radical terrorist cells across Australia, The Daily Telegraph reports.

The Government will implement its programmes carefully in order to avoid demonizing the Muslim community and the new measures will tackle potential spread of extremism in the nation’s jails, the paper said.

The Budget is expected to outline a national scheme, with religious classes and better contact between inmates and their families. This could minimize interactions that could potentially lead to the formation of radical Wahhabis caucuses, it added.

Shia Muslim cleric: Ireland under the attack of Al-Qaeda extremists

Ahlul Bayt News Agency, EXTREMIST Wahhabis influenced by al-Qaeda are taking a hold in Ireland and some of these young adults are becoming influential in the country’s universities, the Muslim religious leader of a Dublin mosque has warned.

Imam Ali Al-Saleh, who runs the Shia mosque in Dublin’s Milltown, said fundamentalist Wahhabis who sympathise with al-Qaeda were living in Ireland and and that the recent arrest of a group of Wahhabis in Waterford and Limerick was proof of this.

“I think there is a problem with extremists in Ireland. Ireland is being used as a safe haven. We were not surprised over the arrests in relation to the plot in Sweden,” Dr Al-Saleh told the Sunday Tribune.

“Many extremist Wahhabis came to Ireland as asylum seekers. They are raising their children as extremists and these children have now grown into adults. There is now a problem in Ireland with extremists getting involved in university student societies. This is of concern.

These youths can be easily brainwashed. There are so many websites dedicated to extremism and so many speeches being made that influence these young people. It is a very hot atmosphere. We are warning people not to get involved.”

Dr Al-Saleh added that, as well as extremist Wahhabis who have been raised in Ireland, many middle-Eastern students are also arriving in Ireland to study.

“Al-Qaeda have used Ireland as a base. I think the most dangerous are the parents who raise their children as fanatical extremists. I have children in primary and high school. They tell me what they say about Osama bin Laden. They tell us their youth praise Osama bin Laden.”

“The reaction of extremists can be very harsh. There have been al-Qaeda leaders in Ireland – they have since been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

Dr Al-Saleh said it was important to acknowledge Wahhabi extremism in Ireland but he is aware that some other imams do not agree with his views. “In Ireland we have this problem and we need to tackle it. By acknowledging it, I am defending Islam. To deny it is not accusing Islam, it is accusing extremists.”

Islam is now the second biggest faith in Ireland after Christianity with approximately 32,000 Muslims living here. Imam Ali Al-Selim, chairman of the Irish Council of Imams and head of the Sunni mosque in Dublin’s Clonskeagh, said he did not believe there was a problem with extremists Wahhabis in Ireland.

“We are an integrated part of Irish society here. Nothing has happened to show us there are radical Wahhabis who call themselves as Muslim in Ireland. We as Muslims condemn all violence whether it’s against Muslims or non-Muslims,” he said.

Wave of Iraq attacks kills many Shia Muslims

Ahlul Bayt News Agency , An apparently co-ordinated series of attacks targeting security forces and a Shiite mosque in Iraq killed 31 people on Monday in the worst violence to hit the country in more than a fortnight.

The bloodshed began in Baghdad where shootings with automatic weapons against six police or army checkpoints in eastern and western sectors of the city accounted for seven of the dead, an interior ministry official said.

Two other policemen died in three bombings in south and west Baghdad.

“The attacks started at 6:30 am (0330 GMT) and ended around 8:00 am (0500 GMT),” the official said, noting that nearly all of the wounded were security personnel.

A double bomb attack near the mosque in Suwayrah, 60 kilometres (37 miles) southeast of the capital, killed 11 people and wounded 70, a police lieutenant told AFP.

There were also four bomb attacks on houses in and around the former Sunni insurgent bastion of Fallujah, west of Baghdad, three of which were owned by security officials. Police and a doctor at Fallujah hospital confirmed a total of four people had been killed and 11 injured in the attacks.

Seven other people were killed in separate attacks near the main northercity of Mosul, in Iskandiriyah south of Baghdad, and near Tarmiyah, north of the Iraqi capital.

Monday’s death toll was the highest since April 23, when 58 people were killed in series of bombings in Baghdad and western Iraq, days after the government said Al-Qaeda was on the run.

There were around 20 attacks in total on Monday.

Major General Qassim Atta, a security forces spokesman in Baghdad, said the attacks appeared to be coordinated.

Ayatollah khamenei said; IRI sould turn into a reliable reference for Islamic world

Receiving thousands of teachers from all over the country, the Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei pointed to the teachers’ vital and great role in creating and cultivating innovative, thoughtful, religious and self-confident human beings in order to continue the country’s progress, stressing: “The Iranian nation should achieve a stage of progress and exaltation so that it turns from intellectual and scientific aspects and different political and social fields into a reliable reference for nations and the thinkers of the Islamic world, and this is the Iranian nation’s historical responsibility.”
Commemorating the martyr master Morteza Motahhari and the Teachers’ Day, IR Leader called Motahhari the martyr as a complete teacher with a sense of responsibility, adding: “That great man entered bravely any arena that he felt the society has different questions and needs, and considerations and interests never blocked him.”
“The martyr Motahhari, contrary to some claimants of religious intellectualism that used to present concepts void of religious content with religious paint, presented to the society real religious concepts in coordination with the needs of the day and the audience’s understanding,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.
Stressing that the martyr Motahhari never sought seminary and academic name and title, he added: “That martyr during his life fought religious innovation and deviatory and eclectic thoughts with the same strength that he fought reactionary thoughts and petrifaction and this was one of the prominent characteristics of the martyr Motahhari.”
IR Leader regarded one of the excellent characteristics of the martyr Motahhari’s works as their liveliness and novelty, stressing: “The reason why after 30 years of that master’s martyrdom and despite different progresses, the martyr Motahhari’s works are still respondent to many of today’s needs, is that great man’s sincerity.”
“Whenever a deep thought is accompanied with sincerity, God grants that thought a blessing that remains for the society as an eternal reserve and the martyr Motahhari’s works are so,” Ayatollah Khamenei added.
Considering the effect of the martyr Motahhari’s scientific and cultural works as an example of the magnitude of education and cultivation and referring to the teachers’ vital role, he said: “If teachers always consider the magnitude and greatness of the effect of their work, their faith, incentive, movement and effort will intensity.”
IR Leader regarded the teacher’s role and effect in forming children’s and teenagers’ personality and social personality as further than the effect of parents, media, social issues and even spiritual and ethical hereditary factors, adding: “The teacher with this prominent role can cultivate a faithful, enthusiast, patient, hopeful of the future, pursuant of public interests, interested in achieving the peaks of personal and social evolution, innovative, thoughtful and researching human being.”
The Leader of Islamic Revolution said should teachers fail to appreciate the importance of their role they would educate people not favorable to the society.
Ayatollah Khamenei urged all teachers not to forget their duty adding that a fundamental change in the education system should be made in compliance with the needs and goals of the country.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution added that to compensate for the deficiencies of the past a major move was required emphasizing that “the country and the nation should gain the stature they deserve and become an excellent model for the Islamic world.”
Ayatollah Khamenei said that in order to achieve that goal all intellectual and physical resources of the nation should be utilized.
“If Iranians took their rightful position in the world it would lead to a change in the Muslim world and a change in the Muslim world would certainly change the whole world,” the Leader of Islamic Revolution said.
Ayatollah Khamenei spoke of the world’s current situation as morally bad adding that the humankind could be spared a terrifying fate but first the country should change so as to become a model for the world.
He continued that education was the basis of every change and since the foundation had been laid in the past thirty years, and despite the difficulties, promising future was ahead.
Ayatollah Khamenei also added that no power in the world could obstruct the country’s forward movement adding that long years of experience had proven it.
“In a forward movement what is important is that every one fulfills his or her duty,” the Leader of Islamic Revolution said.
In the end Ayatollah Khamenei urged education authorities to fulfill their duties with enthusiasm and hard work.

Iraq Shia Blocs Unite; One Step To Make Government : Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s coalition and another Shia political bloc (led by Hakim) announced last night that they would band together to form a new government.

According to Ahlul Bayt News Agency., Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s coalition and another Shia political bloc (led by Hakim) announced last night that they would band together to form a new government.

“We formed an alliance to form the biggest bloc in the next Parliament,’’ Ali al-Allaq, a leader in Maliki’s State of Law coalition, said in an interview. “We agreed to postpone talking about the position of the prime minister until the next phase.’’

“The agreement was signed by representatives from both coalitions to form a parliamentary bloc … which will nominate the prime minister,” said State of Law official Haider al-Ebadi, who is also a member of Maliki’s Dawa Party.

Asked whether the issue of prime minister had been resolved, he said “No, not yet. The new bloc will nominate one candidate.”

Maliki’s State of Law won 89 seats in the next parliament. The other Shia-dominated coalition, the Iraqi National Alliance, won 70. The Sunni-backed Iraqiya coalition won 91 seats.

If the alliance between the Shia blocs holds, leaders would need to bring just a handful of other lawmakers into the fold to get the 163 votes required to appoint a new prime minister. The incoming parliament will have 325 members.

Such an alliance threatens to undermine US interests.

While the resulting combination of 159 seats is just short of the required majority, the Kurdish Alliance of the autonomous Kurdish region’s two long-dominant blocs holds 43 seats and has previously said it would join the new grouping if the two main blocs allied.

However, electoral authorities are carrying out a recount of votes in the key Baghdad constituency, which accounts for 70 seats.

Electrical Fire Damages Mosque; Muslims Blame Jews-:- A mosque north of Ramallah went up in flames Monday night, apparently due to a short circuit — but Muslim clerics blamed Jews from nearby communities in Samaria.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency , A mosque north of Ramallah went up in flames Monday night, apparently due to a short circuit — but Muslim clerics said Jews from nearby communities in Samaria.

Palestinian Authority Arabs charged that “settlers” torched the mosque, forcing Israeli security forces to try to calm down villagers.

They have asked Palestinian Authority police to investigate.

The PA previously has said Jews for a long list of damage to Arab property, particularly orchards.

Israeli guard tears inmate's Quran

Tearing of Islam’s holy book of Quran by Israeli prison guards has sparked new outrage across Palestine against Tel Aviv regime’s religious bigotry.

A detainees’ society reported the sacrilegious measure, asserting that an Israeli prison guard in Ashkelon jail seized a prisoner’s Quran during a cell search and tore it into pieces.

Palestinian Authority Chief Justice Sheikh Tayseer al-Tamimi issued a statement on the incident on Monday and strongly condemned recurring insults on Islamic sanctities by Israeli forces. The move reveals the extent of “extremism, religious hatred and racism in Israel,” he said.

The sheikh said it was not the first occasion during which “Israeli forces have disrespected the Noble Quran, having done so in the al-Arroub refugee camp and in Megiddo prison.”

Tamimi stressed that religious books, including the Quran, should be respected by followers of all religions. “But Israeli guards do not do so,” he regretted, saying he held the Israeli regime and Israeli Prison Service responsible for the insult.

Last month, assailants who looked like Israeli settlers broke into the Bilal Ben-Rabah Mosque in the village of Hawara, near Nablus. They sprayed graffiti, including a Jewish Star of David, on the walls of the mosque alongside the name of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) in Hebrew and set fire to two cars outside the building.

Extremist settlers also vandalized a mosque in the West Bank village of Yasuf in December. The vandals attacked the holy site overnight and burned prayer mats and a book stand with sacrosanct, Islamic texts. They also sprayed threatening messages on the mosque walls reading, “Get ready to pay the price” and “We will burn all of you.”

Martyrdom Anniversary of Shaheed Murtaza Motahhari

Every year the great Iranian Islamic thinker Morteza Motahhari is commemorated. This is done to appreciate his scientific and ideological efforts and it also expresses the Islamic world’s need to thinkers like him.

Martyr Motahhari was a perfect model for all Muslim thinkers. He was a wise man, pious philosopher, God seeking gnostic and a great writer. These good characteristics were quite clear in his works. The books of martyr Motahhari open the gates of knowledge, philosophy and various sciences for the seekers of knowledge.

Motahhari enjoyed two major characteristics; namely a deep and all-out cognizance of Islam and endeavor to express religion according to the requirements of time. He says: “Since I remember my spiritual developments, I was sort of concerned at the age of 13 and I was strangely sensitive towards the issues related to God and religion.”

In different works of professor Motahhari, his attention to man’s eternal bliss and an accurate cognizance of religion is noticeably visible. Through research, preaching and rational books, he has tried to introduce Islam as the loftiest copy of human living to the world. The Holy Quran always stresses in its cahpters and verses that religion brings a real life for mankind. Verse 24 of Surah Anfal says:

“O you who believe! Answer (the call of) Allah and His Apostle when he calls you to that which gives you life;”

Therefore positive response to the call of God and His Messengers is the source of life. Certainly whatever is the source of life will be ever- lasting and immortal.

According to professor Motahhari religion never dies; from his viewpoint the revival of religion requires its presence in human life. This presence is materialized by activating religion in man’s life and revitalizing its role in human deeds and thoughts.

Social phenomena should be in compliance with human needs so that they may continue to exist. Human needs consist of the natural and unnatural ones. Natural needs stem from the natural characteristics of mankind. For example human being is interested in scientific research or he likes beauty. His unnatural needs are a series of tendencies spring from habits. For instance majority of people are accustomed to have tea or to smoke. Since these are not natural, human being can give them up.

In the path of human progress, we have witnessed that as conditions alter many things change. For example once Thomas Edison invented electricity, candle and lamp were ceased to be used. For, electricity could well meet the human need for light.

But some things can never change. Religion is one of them.

According to Martyr Motahhari, religion is in accordance with human inherent and emotional needs. In terms of securing human needs, nothing can replace religion. The Holy Quran in verse 30 of Surah Rum expresses the inherent nature of religion saying:

“Then set your face upright for religion in the right state-the nature made by Allah in which He has made men; there is no altering of Allah’s creation; that is the right religion, but most people do not know”

Throughout centuries many things have been put forth about the causes behind the emergence of religion. Some believe that religion has its roots in human fear and ignorance, while some others are of the opinion that the reason for human tendency towards religion is his interest in order and justice. The maintainers of these theories believe that if knowledge develops, religion will gradually disappear. Nevertheless, despite the speedy progress of science, religion has not lost its role, but mankind has found out that religion is imperishable. German psychologist Karl Yung acknowledges the fact that religion is part of the things which exist in human nature and subconscious. American psychologist William James in his book entitled “Religion and Spirit” says it is true that the sources of many of our internal tendencies are natural and material affairs but most of them spring from Metaphysics. He adds: I always see a specific dignity and sincerity in religious matters. Human religious conditions enjoy certain characteristics which are not comparable with any state of mankind.

Elsewhere, professor Motahhari responds to the question as how can religion meet human needs. He says mankind is in need of religion both personally and socially. Therefore when the Russian author Lev Tolstoy was asked what belief is, he said belief is the very thing with which mankind lives. Faith is the asset of human life.

Martyr Motahhari also believes that religion is the stronghold of morality and law. He says today it has become clear that morality without religion has no firm basis.

All sacred values of the human society like justice, equality, humanity, altruism and sympathy could not be materialized without belief in religion. Alexis Carl referring to this fact says: “Brains have now made progress but unfortunately hearts are still weak. It is only the faith that can strengthen hearts.”

In addition to raising natural emotions within human beings, Islam is also coordinated with the real nature of mankind in terms of laws, regulations and teachings. With such an understanding of religion, the American writer Will Durant says in his book “The Lessons of History” that religion has one hundred lives. If everything dies once, it will die for ever but if religion dies one hundred times it will revive again. In this relation, professor Motahhari considers religion as a sun which always shines but what makes it stagnate and recess is that on one hand under the name of religion, superstitions, and illogical concepts enter people’s minds and on the other people’s reasonable needs are countered. Martyr Motahhari believes that if the truth of religion is revealed to people, then as the Holy Quran says people would enter God’s religion in groups.

Statement of Ahl ul Bayt World Assembly on Discrimination against Saudi Shia Muslims

In the Name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful

Who is a greater wrongdoer than him who denies access to the mosques of Allah lest His Name be celebrated therein, and tries to ruin them? Such ones may not enter them, except in fear.

There is disgrace for them in this world, and there is for them a great punishment in the Hereafter.  (Baqarah 2:114)

Unfortunately, pressures and difficulties against the followers of the Ahl al-Bayt (‘a) have recently intensified in Saudi Arabia.

Some extremist lobbies dominating Saudi state institutions have been causing trouble for the Shi‘ah such as unfounded arrests, police investigations, short and long term prison sentences, ban of religious ceremonies, and infringement of citizenship rights.

The worst of these measures is the prohibition of the simplest religious right of a Muslim, i.e. public prayer, which has reached a peak.  In addition to closing the Shi‘ah mosques of al-Khabar, they are denied the right to perform congregational prayer even behind Sunni Imams at Sunni mosques.

As an international nongovernmental organization, the Ahl al-Bayt (‘a) World Assembly requests the attention of global human rights organizations regarding the suffering of the oppressed people living in the eastern region of Saudi Arabia.  We also petition the Saudi government to not submit to these extremists and to put an end to these problems.

Statesmen of this country very well know that the followers of the school of the Ahl al-Bayt (‘a), comprising of millions of Saudi citizens, form a great part of the inhabitants of the Arabian Peninsula.  Therefore, exerting pressure upon them may lead to break up of the relationship between these oppressed people and the governmental structure of this country.

Consequently, concerned parties in this country are expected to thoughtfully prevent such occurrences in the future.

HEZBOLLAH REJECTS US ALLEGATION

Hezbollah has sharply rejected US allegations about the Lebanese movement’s missiles, vowing to continue armed resistance against Israeli aggression.

Hezbollah MP Hassan Fadlallah in an article published on Wednesday scoffed at recent comments by US Defense Minister Robert Gates that Hezbollah’s arms exceeded those held by many states in the world, saying Hezbollah’s arms did not compare to the “armament” and “crimes” of the United States and its ally Israel.
The Lebanese official recalled “the level of armament of the United States, which it used in its crimes against peoples around the world, from Hiroshima to the more than 100,000 killed in Iraq and the tens of thousands killed in Palestine, Lebanon and Afghanistan,” the Arabic-language newspaper As-Safir quoted him on Wednesday.
“There is a difference between arms which only serve invasions, occupations and aggressions, such as those of the United States and its ally Israel … and the arms of a resistance which defends, protects, and liberates,” he said.
“Our choice was and remains to secure all the arms of resistance that we can,” he added.
In a joint news conference with Israeli Defense Minster Ehud Barak in Washington, Gates on Tuesday accused Syria and Iran of arming Hezbollah with increasingly sophisticated rockets and missiles.
Gates’ claims came amid tensions in the Middle East intensified by Israel’s earlier accusations against Syria of providing Scud ballistic missiles for Hezbollah.
Israel views Hezbollah a major enemy, especially after the summer conflict of 2006 where the resistance forces repelled a 33-day Israeli offensive on southern Lebanon.

Iran will always stand alongside Syria: Veep

Iran First Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi said here on Friday that Syria is prepared to confront any threat and Iran will always remain alongside it.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA.ir), In a joint press conference with Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Naji Otri, he added that Iran will never neglect for a moment in supporting Syria against the occupiers of the Palestine land.

He described the unity between the two countries as an iron fist on the face of those who nurture bad thoughts in their heads about a Muslim country, especially Syria, Lebanon and Iraq.

Stressing the need to strengthen economic ties between the two states, he further noted that Iran will prioritize friend countries in its economic cooperation.

Referring to the Israeli threats against the Arab country, he said that such threats are worthless.

“Iran will support Syria in all fields” Rahimi concluded.

SAUDI SHIA WRITER QUESTIONED FOR CRITICIZING THE SECTARIAN GOVERNMENTAL POLICIES

Saudi authorities subjected Ahmed Al-Rebh lengthy sessions of questioning for his political writing and frequent criticism to sectarian government policy.

According to the Shiite News, sources informed Rasid that Qatif Intelligence Administration called Mr. Al-Rebh on Sunday and Monday for questioning that was continued for long hours.

The call for Mr. Al-Rebh is on the background of his writing in which he criticized the sectarian governmental policies against Saudi Shia.

Sources also informed Rasid that the authorities have ordered Mr. Al-Rebh to stop writing.

Mr. Al-Rebh has bravely requested UN General Secretary to send an investigating group to witness and assess Saudi Shia conditions where several Shia public figures are under detention and many Shia mosques are closed.

In his last article, Mr. Al-Rebh called the Saudi Royal Family to form a parliament and Shora assembly similar to Kuwait and Bahrain.

It should be noted that many other Shia writers were called for questioning by the Saudi Intelligence Administration.

QUETTA: SHIA PROFESSOR NAZIMA TALIB KILLED IN ACT OF TARGET KILLING

Gunmen on Tuesday shot dead a woman university professor in southwest Pakistan, where targeted killings blamed on tribal insurgents, sectarian groups and militants are increasing, police said.

According to the Shiite News, Professor Nazima Talib Mehdi, 48, had just stepped into a rickshaw at the gate of Balochistan University in Quetta city when gunmen riding a motorbike sprayed her with bullets, senior police officer Tariq Manzoor said.

“She received multiple bullet wounds and died before she could be taken to hospital,” Manzoor said. “It was a targeted killing,” he said.

Reports suggested that the assailants chased Talib from the UoB when she had hardly covered more than 1,000 yards from the university.
With the conspicuous absence of senior police and administration officials, some personnel of police, on being informed, reached the scene and started a probe into the matter. Eyewitnesses said the police reached the spot after 20 minutes of the incident. The body of the deceased was shifted to the Civil Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Hamas: US unfit as peace mediator

A spokesman for the Hamas movement says the administration of US President Barack Obama lacks credibility as a mediator in Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.

Speaking on Tuesday, senior Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri criticized President Obama’s statement on the occasion of Nakba Day, saying the US leader’s remarks only reaffirmed his administration’s favoritism toward Israel.

Abu Zuhri also said that Washington was not fit to play the role of an “honest broker” in the peace process between Israel and Palestine.

“Obama’s statement was a clear message to all Arab parties concerned with the peace process not to bet on the American role in this regard,” he said.

President Obama issued a statement on Tuesday, reaffirming the United States’ “unbreakable bond” with Israel, adding that Washington is confident the relationship “will only be strengthened” into the future.

Israel’s establishment on May 14, 1948, which according to the Jewish calendar corresponds to April 20 this year, is called “al-Nakba” or the Day of National Catastrophe by Palestinians.

More than 700,000 Palestinians were expelled from their villages and towns and forced to live in refugee camps. This year marks the 62nd anniversary of Nakba Day.

The Big Killer of Muslims in Iraq , ‘Chemical Ali’ sentenced to death

Ali Hassan al-Majid, also known as “Chemical Ali”, has been sentenced to death for ordering the gassing of Kurds in the Iraqi village of Halabja, state television has reported. Al-Majid, who was a senior aide to Saddam Hussein, the executed Iraqi leader, was sentenced to be hanged for the 1988 attack, in which 5,000 Kurds are thought to have died.

It may be noted here that earlier Iraqi court has given the sentenced to death for Saddam cousin “Chemical Ali” over his involvement in the killing of thousands of innocent Shia Muslims of Iraq.

Families of some victims cheered in court when the guilty verdict was handed down on Sunday. The Iraqi High Tribunal also sentenced three other Saddam aides, including the former defence minister, to 10 to 15 years in prison for the Halabja attack.

In March 1988, Iraqi jets swooped over the village and sprayed it with a deadly mix of mustard gas and the nerve agents Tabun, Sarin and VX. Three-quarters of the victims in the five-hour assault were women and children. It is thought to have been the deadliest gas attack ever carried out against civilians.

Operation Anfal

Al-Majid, a cousin of Saddam, was nicknamed “Chemical Ali” for overseeing the gassing of Iraqi Kurds during the so-called Operation Anfal campaign, which culminated in 1988. About 182,000 Kurds were estimated to have been killed in gas and bomb attacks during the Anfal operation, while 4,000 villages were destroyed.

The latest sentence comes 10 months after the same court handed down a death sentence to al-Majid for his involvement in the killing and displacement of Shia Muslims in 1999. His execution has been delayed by legal disputes over his conviction.

Al-Majid was captured in August 2003, five months after US-led forces invaded Iraq and ousted Saddam.

Israeli Terrorism Should Not Be Ignored Any Longer: Indian Scholar

It is unfortunate that the international community is keeping mum even as Israel is continuously violating the human rights by killing the innocent people of Palestine, said an Indian religious Shia leader Maulana Syed Kalbe Jawwad on Monday.

On the first anniversary of Israeli attacks on the Gaza strip, Maulana Jawwad, a renowned Shia scholar said that all the peace loving people and countries should take stern action against the Israeli aggression.

Expressing his dismay over the criminal silence of the international community specially the United Nations, Maulana Jawwad said that the Israeli terrorism should not be ignored any longer.

Condemning the Israeli aggression against the Palestinians especially in the Gaza, he said that the aggressors have used and still using all kinds of forces against the innocent people.

He also condemned the United States for its blind support for Israel and its crime against humanity.

Maulana Jawwad, the Friday Prayer Leader at Historical Asafi Mosque of Lucknow, also urged the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Arab League as well as the Indian government to take immediate diplomatic steps to save Palestinian from the on going genocide in Gaza and help restore peace in the region.

He demanded the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Palestinian territories.

“Since 1948, tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians including women and children have been massacred by Israel and this cruelty is being perpetrated in the name of fighting Palestinian terrorism”, he said, adding that the root cause of the conflict in West Asia continues to remain the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands.

The Israeli attack on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip last year claimed lives of more than 1,000 innocent Palestinians, including 322 children and 76 women.

More than 4,560 Palestinians including 1,600 children and 678 women have reportedly been wounded in those inhuman attacks.

The Last Messenger's Last Message

What you see below are the main points of the speech that the Prophet gave during the Hajj as well as on the 18th of Dhil Hajj at Ghadir Khum.

Importance of the Message

O People, listen (carefully) to what I explain to your since I am not sure whether I will be able to meet you after this year in this (sacred) place.

The Prophet announced that his death was approaching and therefore asked the people to listen to this message carefully. He talked about important issues of life which are relevant for all times and places.

Sacredness of Life, Honor, and Property

O People, verily your lives, your honor, and your properties are sacrosanct to one another…just as you regard this month (of Dhil Hajj), this day (of ‘Arafah), and this city as sacred. O Allah, be witness (that I have conveyed the message).

Life, honor, and property of Muslims are sacrosanct. The term “Muslim” – from silm – conveys the meaning that others are protected from the hands and tongue of the Muslims. Similarly, the termMo’min – from amana – stresses the virtue of honesty and trustworthiness in handling the property of others.

A Muslim’s honor and dignity is even more sacrosanct. So be careful before insulting or defaming someone, especially in the age of telephones and emails – think about what you write before pressing the “Send” button on your screen. How far some Muslims have moved away from the teachings of the Prophet can be seen in example of suicide bombers in Pakistan and Iraq who enter mosques and kill Shias. This takfiri Islam (presently manifesting in form of Wahhabism) is surely alien to the traditions and values preached by the Prophet Muhammad. How can those who explode bombs in Miladun Nabi(as seen previously in Karachi) be considered followers of the Prophet Muhammad?

Equality Among Muslims

O People, verily your Lord is One, and your father is one: all of you are from Adam, and Adam from the dust; and verily the most honorable of you in eyes of Allah is the one who is most pious. And therefore, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab, nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; neither a white person has any superiority over a black person, nor a black person has any superiority over a white person – except on basis of righteousness. Have I conveyed the message?

(The people responded, “Yes.”)

So let the one who is present, convey this to those who are absent.

The Prophet envisioned a Muslim community devoid of racism, and during his 11 years in Medina, he indeed succeeded in establishing a color-blind society. Presence of tribalism and racism, in open as well as in ingeniously hidden forms, among the Muslims shows how much we have deviated from the right path. Just look at the tragedy unfolding in Darfur between the Arab Sudanese and the African Sudanese – Muslims looting, raping, and killing Muslims!

Our first sense of identity should be Islam and not ethnicity and tribalism. The sense of pride should be based on piety, righteousness, and not on color or race.

Interest and Usury

Whosoever has an item entrusted to him for safekeeping must be return to the owner. All interest/usury (riba) due on anyone from the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyya) are henceforth being waived. Your capital is yours to keep (but you cannot ask for its interest). The first usury that I am waiving is the usury that was due to Abbas ibn Abdul Muttalib.

The Prophet prohibited usury, starting with a member of his own family – his uncle Abbas. An ideal Islamic society would eliminate the exploitation of the poor by the rich.

On personal level, Islam promotes giving of interest-free loan, and on a commercial level, it prefers partnership between investors and workers who would share in profit and loss.

Women

O people, fear Allah in matters regarding your women. Verily, they have upon you certain rights, and you also have rights over them. They have to maintain their chastity, and they should not allow anyone whom you dislike to visit your houses except with your consent. You have to provide for them their food, clothing, and shelter in a just manner. Remember that you have taken them (as your wives) as Allah’s trust and have made them halal according to Allah’s book. Therefore, fear Allah in matters regarding your women and be kind to them.

In his last public address, the Prophet gave great importance to mutual rights between husband and wife. Wives are Allah’s trusts for husbands, and therefore they should be treated accordingly. And of course, the wives also have to respect of their husbands’ rights, especially in matters of decent behavior.

Shaitan’s Attempt to Misguide Muslims

O people, verily the Shaitan has lost all hopes of being worshipped in this land of yours, but he will be pleased to be obeyed in matters that you consider minor from your deeds.

The Prophet warned us that the Shaitan will try to misguide us in minor issues, and so we should realize that when minor sins pile up, they themselves turn into major sins.

Moreover, even if the Shaitan fails in preventing you from the ritual aspects of good deeds like prayers and charity, he will surely try to rob you of the spiritual aspects of these rituals. So always be vigilant against such satanic snares.

Sanctity of Others’ Properties

O people, Allah has fixed the share of each heir in the inheritance; no heir is allowed more than one-third (of what is bequeathed to him)…

O People, the believers constitute one brotherhood. Nothing from the property of a believer can be legitimate to the other except by his consent. Have I conveyed the message?

(The people responded, “Yes.”)

O Allah, be witness.

Again, the Prophet returns to the importance of respecting others’ properties and not taking anything more that what is rightfully ours. He singles out the example of the shares of inheritance: no Muslim should take more than what is his or her rightful share as assigned by the Qur’an.

It was so sad to see some “liberated Muslims” in Canada passionately campaigning against the Shari’ahlaws, even though it was being promoted as an optional dispute resolution mechanism. They specifically opposed the laws of inheritance which are clearly delineated in the Qur’an itself. These misguided souls didn’t realize that being “liberated Muslim” is a contradiction in terms; it is indeed an oxymoron. A true Muslim liberates himself or herself from the shackles of personal whims and desires and then submits to the will of God.

Guidance after the Prophet

I am a human being, and I fear that the messenger of God (i.e. the angel of death) will call me and I will have to accept that call. Therefore, I am leaving among you two important things, and as long as you hold onto them, you will never go astray: firstly, the Book of Allah, and second, my Progeny, my family. Verily the Graceful and Aware God has informed me that these two shall never separate (from one another) until they join me at the Fountain (of Kawthar in the hereafter). Have I conveyed the message?

(The people responded, “Yes.”)

O Allah, be witness.

Aware of his impending death, the Last Messenger of God could not have ignored the issue of succession. A Prophet who explained the minor things like physical cleanliness and purity could not have ignored the major issue of leadership after his death.

The Prophet clearly introduced the Qur’an and the Ahlul Bayt as the two main sources of guidance for Muslims. And he enforced this in Ghadir Khumm by declaring Ali bin Abi Talib (peace be upon him) as the Guide and Leader after himself. He said, “Whomsoever’s mawla (leader, master) am I, this Ali is also his mawla.”

Carry My Message Forward

All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly.

Be my witness, O Allah, that I have conveyed Your message to Your people.

The message given by the Prophet to the Muslims at his last Hajj and at Ghadir Khum must be conveyed to each generation of Muslims.

Cleric says creating rift among Muslims is ‘greatest sin

yatollah Ahmad Jannati warned on Friday against efforts to sow discord among different sects of Islam, saying it constitutes the “greatest sin”.

“Today, the greatest sin is to create division among Muslim,” Ayatollah Jannati told worshippers in Tehran.

The Tehran Friday prayer leader also condemned violence against Yemeni Muslims, singling out Saudi Arabia for its massive attacks on the Houthi community inside the Yemeni territory.

“Those who are hosting Muslims in Mecca… are helping this country (Yemen) in killing innocent women and children,” the cleric lamented.

The Houthis belong to the minority Zaidi sect of Shiism, and complain of social, economic and religious marginalization by the Yemeni government, which is backed by Saudi Arabia.

15th Zee al-Hajjah, the Birthday Anniversary of Imam Ali-un-Naqi al-Hadi(A.S.)

Imam Ali-un-Naqi al-Hadi (A.S.), the Tenth Holy Imam of the Shi’ites in the world who defended and safeguarded the Islamic Sharia from the innovations spread by the ruling Abbasid caliphs was born in the holy city of Madinah on the fifteenth day of the month of Zee al-Hajjah in the year 212 A.H.

On this Happy and Joyous event we extend our Heartiest Greetings and Felicitations to all the lovers and followers of the Holy Ahlul Bayt(A.S.) in the world.

Hajj, undertaken in unity and purity of Islam

Saudi Arabia is hosting near three million Muslims from across the globe who are spending days and nights in prayer and devotion on the hajj pilgrimage.

The city of Mecca is at the heart of what is a life-altering experience for most of the pilgrims. Men and women perform the pilgrimage in the same way.

The pilgrims begin their journey by walking around the Kabaa, an ancient structure at the heart of the city’s Grand Mosque.

Dressed in white robes to symbolize purity, the pilgrims complete the first ritual of the Hajj by circling the sacred Kaaba seven times.

The 9th day of Dhul-Hijjah (the month of hajj) is called the Day of Arafat.

Pilgrims make their way to Mina, five kilometers east of Mecca for a ritual of prayer and reflection. They also throw stones at pillars that symbolize the devil.

The Muslim pilgrims then travel from Mina to Mount Arafat. The pilgrims spend the night praying in the Arafat Desert.

The tenth day of Dhul-Hijjah is Eid Al-Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice. Muslims then slaughter a sheep, goat, or camel to show their gratitude for Allah’s generosity and blessing and distribute the meat among the poor.

The Hajj is a core concept of Islam, gathering Muslims annually from all over the world.

World Shia Leader's Message to Hajj Pilgrims

The season of Hajj is the time of a spiritual rebirth and the dawn of monotheism across horizons over the world. Its rituals flow like a limpid river, offering chances to pilgrims to wash away the filth of sins or negligence and to eventually restore the sheen of their God-like innate disposition.

The shedding of the attire of snobbery and privilege in the Hajj rendezvous and the subsequent wearing of the uniform garment of Ihram altogether symbolize a unanimous Islamic Ummah and decree a symbolic call of unity and empathy to Muslims worldwide.

The Hajj calls “Your God is One God, so to Him surrender. And give good tidings unto the humble” (The Hajj: 34) on the one hand and “the Holy Mosque that We have appointed equal unto men, alike him who cleaves to it and the tent-dweller” (The Hajj: 25) on the other and in doing so, the Ka’aba embodies a call in unison for Islamic fraternity besides its call of monotheism.

The Muslims who have converged onto the holy place from the four corners of the world with an ardent desire for circumambulating around the Ka’aba or visiting the shrine of the Noblest Messenger, may the peace of Allah be upon him and his progeny, are expected to cherish the opportunity in consolidating their mutual brotherly bonds as it would heal many woes of the Islamic Ummah.

Nowadays, we clearly see that the hands of the ill-wishers of the world of Islam are busy more than the past driving wedges among Muslims, thus the Islamic Ummah is in need of integrity and unanimity more than ever before.

Today, the bloodstained claws of enemies are busy unleashing tragic scenes here and there across the Islamic lands; Palestine languishes under the wicked grip of Zionists and suffers a widening tribulation. The Al-Aqsa Mosque faces a grave threat; innocent people of Gaza, having already been subjected to an unprecedented genocide and still endure the harshest conditions; Afghanistan, under the boots of the occupiers, witnesses a new suffering on a daily basis; in Iraq instability has robbed people of their calm and their peace of mind; in Yemen fratricide has struck the Islamic Ummah with a fresh grief.

Muslims worldwide should rather stop and think how and where these blind seditions, wars, blasts, assassination bids and massacres which have gripped Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan have been planned. Why was it that before the American-led Western troops arrived in this region in a peremptory and possessory manner, the regional nations had never been subjected to such a long list of sufferings?

The occupiers, on the one hand, brand any popular resistance movements in Palestine, Lebanon or any other place as terroristic, and on the other hand, are organizing or masterminding a violent sectarian terrorism among the regional nations.

The Middle East and the North African region was once colonized and humiliated for more than a century by the Western governments of Britain and France and subsequently by America; their natural reserves were plundered, their free spirit was trodden upon and their nations were taken hostage by the greed of the aggressive aliens.

Yet, after an Islamic awakening coupled with a popular resistance movements made it impossible for them to proceed and following a re- emergence of the issue of martyrdom and ascension to God and on the path of God , as an exceptional factor in the scene of Islamic jihad, the aggressors, having been pushed to a defensive position, resorted to duplicitous methods after replacing their old approach with a new type of colonialism.

Nonetheless, the multi-faced demon of colonialism has now fielded all its capacities to bring Islam to its knees, from military might, an iron fist and flagrant occupation to an evil chain of propagandas and a myriad of lie-spreading and rumor-mongering media centers, from the organization of networks to ruthlessly carry out assassination and homicide to promotion of promiscuity and the proliferation of narcotics targeting the morale and the morality of the youth, and, finally, from a thoroughgoing diplomatic assail on any hub of resistance to the provocation of sectarian snobbery, prejudice and enmity among brothers.

If affection, trust and empathy take the place of the enemy-desired mistrust and animosity among Muslim nations or Islamic sects, the conspiracy of the ill-wishers would be defeated for the most part and their sinister plots in seeking a growing dominance over the Islamic Ummah would be foiled.

The Hajj is one of those precious opportunities for this sublime goal.

Muslims will only be able to withstand the multi-faced demon and overcome it through cooperation with one another and reliance on their common foundations which are encapsulated in the Holy Koran and the practice of the Messenger. Islamic Iran, following the lessons of our great Imam Khomeini, has epitomized this fruitful resistance. The enemies have faced defeat in Islamic Iran.

Thirty years of plotting, conspiring and ill feeling, from staging a coup and imposing an eight-year war, to imposition sanctions and the freezing of assets, from the unleashing of psychological warfare and media confrontation to making efforts to hinder scientific growth and the acquisition of modern sciences including nuclear expertise by the Iranian nation, and even blatant provocations and interventions during the recent glorious and meaningful elections, all turned into scenes of setbacks, passiveness and confusion on the part of the enemy, re-evoking a verse in the Iranian mind: “Surely the guile of Satan is ever feeble” (The Women: 76).

In all other areas of the world too, where people have countered the arrogant powers through a faith-inspired resistance, the faithful achieved victory while the tyrants ended up in scandal and retreat. The shining victory of the Lebanese in the 33-day war and the prideful and victorious jihad of the Gazans during the past three years stand as living evidence in this regard.

I emphatically recommend the fortunate pilgrims in general and especially the scholars and orators of the Islamic countries who have attended the Hajj gathering, as well as the leaders of Friday prayers in the noble sanctuaries, to recognize their your immediate duty, to expose the conspiracy of the enemies of Islam in the eyes of your audience, and to call the people to affection and unity, they should strictly avoid anything which may provoke a sense of mistrust among Muslims, and vent all cries at the arrogant and the enemies of the Islamic Ummah and the masterminds of all seditions headed by the Zionists and Americans, and in doing so, help materialize the practice of renouncing the infidels in word and in deed.

I humbly pray to God, the Most High, to confer His succor and blessing on me and to you all.

Wassalam-o Alaikum
Sayyed Ali Husseini Khamenei

First Day of the month of Zee Qa'dah Birthday Anniversary of Hadrat Fatima Masumah(A.S.)

Hadrat Fatima Masumah (A.S.) the Blessed and the Gracious Divine Lady from the Holy Ahlul Bayt (A.S.) was born on first day of the month of Zee al-Qa’adah in the year 173 A.H. in the holy city of Madinah Munawwarah. Her holy father was martyred in the Baghdad prison at the hands of the Abbasid caliph Harun al-Rashid after undergoing long term of imprisonment and tortures. After the martyrdom of her holy father she came under the care of Imam Reza (A.S.), her elder brother.
In the year 200 A.H., Imam Reza (A.S.) was forced to leave Madinah Munawwarah by the orders of Mamun, the Abbasid caliph. Imam Reza (A.S.) came alone to Marv (Khurasan) and did not accompany any of his family members.
In the year 201 A.H., Hadrat Fatimah Masoumah (A.S.) accompanied by her brothers and other elders from the Ahlul Bayt (A.S.) left Madinah Munawwarah for Marv (Khurasan) to meet Imam Reza (A.S.). On their way they were welcomed and greeted by the people of the different cities and villages.
Hadrat Masoumah (A.S.) like her noble aunt Hadrat Zainab (A.S.) delivered the message of innocence of her brother Imam Reza (A.S) and revealed the evil intentions of the Abbasid caliph to the public. When the caravan reached Saveh a group of armed men who were deputed by Mamun, the Abbasid caliph, savagely attacked them and all the brothers of Hadrat Masoumah (A.S.) were martyred and according to some historical reports she was poisoned and became severely ill.
Due to her ill health she was unable to continue her journey towards Khurasan and decided to go towards Qum which is near Saveh. Hadrat Masoumah (A.S.) narrated while going towards Qum that her father, Imam Musa al-Kazim (A.S.) has said that city of Qum is the centre of the Shi’ites.
The inhabitants of Qum who were Shi’ites became very happy that Hadrat Masoumah (A.S.) is visiting their city and they gave warm welcome to her. Musa bin Khajraj, the doyen of Ashari family in Qum took the rein of the she-camel litter in his hand in which Hadrat Masoumah (A.S) was travelling and large number of people gathered around the she-camel litter. Hadrat Masoumah (A.S.) entered the city of Qum on 23rd Rabi al-Awwal, in the year 201 A.H.
She then resided in the house of Musa bin Khajraj in the locality which is now called as “Maidan Mir”.
She remained alive only for 17 days because she was poisoned in Saveh. But even in this condition she spent most of her time in praying and supplicating to Allah (SWT).
The place of her stay and worship in Qum is now situated in the Madrasa Sittiyah and is known as “Bait al-Nur” and is a place of ziyarah for the Shi’ites.
She passed away on 10th Rabi al-Thani, in the year 201 A.H. and she could not meet her elder brother before death. The Shi’ites in Qum greatly mourned her death and she was buried in a place called Bagh-i Babelan, which at that time was located outside the city. When the grave was ready there arose a difference that who should keep the body of Hadrat Masoumah (A.S.) in the grave. It is reported that suddenly two men whose face were covered and riding the horses came to that place and performed the Salaat-e Mayyit ( the prayers for the dead person) and then one of them went in the grave and the other person gave the body of Hadrat Masoumah (A.S.) to that standing person in the grave who laid her to rest in the grave.
After the burial ceremony was over both those persons without talking to anybody sat on their horse and went away.
It is said that those two holy personalities who performed the burial ceremony for Hadrat Masoumah (A.S.) were Imam Reza (A.S.) and Imam Muhammad Taqi al-Jawad (A.S.). According to sacred rules the burial ceremony of an infallible has to be performed by another infallible person for example the burial ceremony of Hadrat Fatima Zahra (A.S.) was performed by Amir al-Muminin Imam Ali (A.S.).
After the burial of Hadrat Masoumah (A.S.), Musa bin Khajraj built a shed over the grave made out of mat. In the year 256 A.H., Hadrat Zainab (A.S.), the daughter of Imam Muhammad Taqi al-Jawad (A.S.) constructed a dome over the grave of her aunt Hadrat Masoumah (A.S.).
Since the burial of that divine lady of Islam in Qum, the holy grave of her have become a centre of ziyarah for the lovers of the Holy Ahlul Bayt (A.S.)
Hadrat Fatima Masumah(A.S.) was the most learned scholar and very pious lady and was greatly revered by the Holy Imams(A.S.).

She is buried in the holy city of Qum, Iran and her holy shrine is every year visited by millions of the lovers and followers of Holy Ahlul Bayt(A.S.) from all over the world. The holy city of Qum is also the famous centre of the leading Islamic Hawzah (seminaries), research centers and publishing companies in the world.

On this Auspicious Occasion we extend our Happy and Joyous Greetings and felicitations to all the lovers of the Holy Ahlul Bayt (A.S.) in the world.

Why Imam Hussayn (a) is not forgotten?

Writer: Ayatollah Nasir Makarem Shirazi:

Most of us know this reality, but the point that is not known to many (especially non-Islamic scholars); that point that has remained a mystery is:

Why is such importance given to this historical event which is similar in numbers and manners to many other events? Why are the commemoration ceremonies stronger and more emotional year after year?

Why has the event of Karbala taken on a form of eternity despite the fact that the Ummayad dynasty has come to an end and the champions of this event should have become forgotten?

The answers to these questions must be searched for in the depths of the revolution. The analysis of this event is not very complicated for one who is familiar with Islamic history.

In clearer terms, the bloody event of Karbala did not stem from two political rivals who are after power and land.

Likewise, this event did not stem from tribal hatred that remained in two people’s hearts.

This event is a clear picture of a fight between two individual and theological schools of thought whose flames started with the advent of mankind and continue until today. These flames have not been put out. This fight was the continuation of the fight that all the prophets performed and that all of the people seeking positive reform in the universe. In other terms, it was a continuation of the Badr and Ahzab wars.

We all know that when the Prophet of Islam (s) stood up as the leader of an intellectual and social revolution to save mankind from idol-worship and superstition; and to free mankind from the claws of ignorance he gathered all of the oppressed people under his wings. At this time the people who opposed this reform movement, who were led by the wealthy of Mecca, lined up and used all of their might to destroy it. This efforts against Islam were led by the Ummayad clan which was led by Abu Sufyan.

But, at the end, they surrendered to the influence of Islam and their complete infrastructure was defeated.

It is self evident that this destruction does not mean that they became extinct; rather, they changed tactics. They used to perform their anti-Islamic activities in the open, but now they performed them gradually behind closed doors. This is the plan of any stubborn and weak enemy; lying in the trenches waiting for an opportunity.

After the death of the Prophet (s), the Ummayads tried to influence the system of Islamic leadership in order to create a movement which would lead people back to the pre-Islamic lifestyle. The more time that passed since the Prophet’s (s) death the easier this would be.

The customs of the Age of Ignorance which were enlivened after the Prophet passed away by people other than the Ummayads created the groundwork for an ‘ignorant revolution.’

For instance:

1. The issue of racism, which was completely crossed out by Islam, was brought back to life by some of the caliphs. The Arab race took on a special superiority over other races.
2. Various forms of ism which were not in congruence with the spirit of Islam appeared. The public treasury, which was distributed amongst the Muslims equally during the lifetime of the Prophet (s) transformed into something else. People were given unfounded merits and the whole system of tribalism reappeared.
3. The positions which were granted to people during the lifetime of the Prophet (s) due to one’s intellectual, ethical, and spiritual worth was now given due to tribalism and were divided up amongst the tribe of the caliph.

During these conditions, Abu Sufyan’s son, Mu’awiayah, entered the political arena and took charge of one of the most sensitive areas in the Islamic world (Sham). This is where he laid the foundations, with the aid of the remaining parties of the Age of Ignorance, to take control of the Islamic government and to bring the customs of that dark age back into the forefront.

This wave was so severe that pure individuals such as ‘Ali (a) were unable to do anything during the caliphate.

The face of this un-Islamic movement was so clear; their leaders were unable to mask themselves.

Abu Sufyan, in his strange historical quote, stated when the caliphate was transferred to the Ummayads and the Marwan Tribe: “Beware Ummayads! Try to pass the leadership amongst yourselves. I swear upon that which I swear upon that heaven and hell do exist [and that Muhammad’s movement was a political one].”

Mu’awiyah stated in Kufa when he took control of Iraq: “I have not come so that you perform prayer and fast. I have come to rule over you. I will destroy whoever opposes me.”

Yazid said when he saw the heads of the martyrs of Karbala: “I wish my ancestors who were killed in Badr were here to see this. I wish they were able to see this scene of revenge that I took from the Hashimi Tribe.”

These are all telling pieces of evidence which depict the quiddity of their anti-Islamic movement. The more they progressed the bolder they became.

Could Imam Hussayn (a) remain silent in regards to this serious threat against Islam which reached its peak during the reign of Yazid? Would Allah, the Prophet, and the righteous individual that he rose accept that?

Was it not his duty to destroy the silence that prevailed over the Muslim society with an extraordinary show of selflessness? Was it not his duty to reveal the evil face of this ignorant movement from behind the marketing of the Ummayads? Was it not his duty to create an epic in Islamic history with his blood?

Hussayn (a) did just this. He performed his huge Islamic duties and changed the direction that Islam was taking. He destroyed the anti-Islamic plans that the Ummayads had.

This is the true face of Hussayn’s (a) uprising. From here it becomes clear why Imam Hussayn’s (a) name and the history do not become forgotten. He is not attributed to one time; rather, his goal was an eternal goal.

He was martyred along the path of truth, justice, and freedom; along the path of Allah and Islam; along the path of man’s salvation and enlivening human merits. Do such concepts become old? Are such concepts forgotten? Never.

Who was victorious?

Were the victors of this Great War the bloodthirsty and worldly Ummayad soldiers? Or, were the victors Imam Hussayn (a) and his companions who gave their lives along the path of love of the truth and along the path of Allah?

This question is answered by paying attention to the real meanings of victory and defeat. Victory does not mean that one leaves the battlefield untouched or that one’s enemy was killed. Victory does mean that man progressed along the path of his ultimate goal and did not allow his enemy to reach his goal.

The final results of this bloody war become completely clear by paying attention to this meaning of the word. It is true that Hussayn (a) and his loyal companions tasted the drink of martyrdom after fighting like champions, but they reached their goals, in an honorable way.

The goal was clarify what the quiddity of the Ummayad’s anti-Islamic movement was. The goal was to awaken the general Muslim body so that they become aware of the plans of these people who remained from the Age of Ignorance; who took pride in the customs of disbelief and idol-worship. These goals were clearly met.

In the end, they cut down the trees of Ummayad oppression. They laid the groundwork to destroy the government that was stolen and that took pride in bringing customs of the Age of Ignorance, of corruption, of racism, and of oppression back into the forefront.

Yazid’s government showed its true face to everyone by killing righteous members of the Prophet’s family (s), especially Imam Hussayn (a) who was a great Islamic leader.

It is not strange that in all of the Islamic revolutions that occurred after the event of Karbala ‘revenge for these martyrs’ and ‘the satisfaction of the Prophet’s progeny’ is seen. This occurred until the Abbasid dynasty who took benefit from this issue in its own government – then they took the path of oppression.

What victory is greater than this where not only does one reach their goals, but they also become a role model for all free people of the world?

Why do we mourn?

It is asked that if Imam Hussayn (a) was victorious why do we cry? Why don’t we hold a celebration? Is it suitable to cry so much over a victory?

Those who make this criticism do not understand the philosophy behind mourning. They mistake the tears that the mourners of Imam Hussayn (a) shed with the weeps of weak individuals.

There are four types of crying or tears:

1. Happy tears; for example the tears of a mother who has just found her child years after he went missing or the tears of a lover who has just gained the satisfaction of the loved after years of struggle.
2. Compassion tears; tears which stem from a healthy heart, not a heart that is as hard as a rock. These tears show the levels of compassion that a human has; for example they are the tears that flow when one sees an orphan freezing in the cold and crying because he was separated from his father, or the tears that are seen when one witnesses the murder of an infant, such as the murder of the infant at Karbala.
3. Tears of success; sometimes one cries when he reaches his goals. In regards to Karbala, these tears are the tears that announce one’s loyalty to Imam Hussayn (a) and his companions; that announce one’s loyalty to the struggle against oppression. Are such tears possible without knowing what the goals of Imam Hussayn (a) were?
4. Tears of defeat; these are the tears of weak individuals who did not reach their goals and who do not have the motivation to continue. Never shed such tears for Imam Hussayn (a) because he despises such tears. If you cry make sure the tears you are shedding are happy tears, compassion tears, or tears of success.

But, knowing what Imam Hussayn (a) and his companions stood for is more important than mourning. Practically aligning oneself with those goals is also more important than mourning.

Mansour: The Aqsa Mosque is exposed to real threats

NABLUS, (PIC)– Hamas lawmaker Mona Mansour stressed Thursday that the Aqsa Mosque is exposed to real threats as a result of the ongoing Israeli violations against it, warning that Israel is waging an unprecedented barbaric and brutal war on the whole city of occupied Jerusalem aimed at obliterating its Arab and Islamic identity.

“Since the first day of the occupation of Jerusalem city, the Zionist gangs have been seeking under flimsy historical pretexts to control the city, both west and east,” MP Mansour underlined.

She said that the Aqsa Mosque is facing demolition threats as a result of Israeli excavations taking place beneath it, noting that parts of the Mosque sustained cave-ins and fractures.

For his part, Hamas lawmaker Khalil Al-Raba’ee, a prisoner in Israeli jails, condemned in a leaked letter the expansion of settlement and apartheid wall, the demolition of homes and displacement of families as a real Judaization holocaust in the 21st century.

MP Raba’ee stressed the need for one united Palestinian position supported by all Arab and Muslim efforts in the world to confront Judaization schemes in Jerusalem and defend all Palestinian rights.

Prohibition of Qadr night Ihya (Spending night awake) in Saudi Arabia

According to  ABNA.IR – The security office of Saudi Arabian cities expressed – the direction which comes from the interior ministry of Saudi Arabia – celebrate such rituals after the 12pm during the holly month of Ramadan will threat the security of the country so it became prohibited.

The managers and custodians of the Shia Mosques and Husseiniyas forced to singing the warranty and accept if any ritual after the midnight held Mosques or Husseiniya will be plump and its manager will be seized. All the managers and custodians stood against the direction of the security authorities and didn’t signature the warranty and knew it as a apposition against the freedom of religion specially in holly month of Ramadan which is the month of pray, worship, vigil.

In this way, with the direction of the interior ministry of Saudi Arabia it seems the Saudi Shia will face with problems to perform the Qadrs night Ihya and the security forces will obstacle the rituals in the Mosques and the Husseiniyas.

These acts of the interior ministry and the other authorities of Saudi Arabia will make anger not only the Shias rather the all Muslims around the world.

40th anniversary of burning of Al-Aqsa

Friday will mark the 40th anniversary of the burning of the Al-Aqsa mosque by Australian Zionist Denis Michael Rohan.

On August 21, 1969, Rohan entered the mosque and set the Nurrudin Zingi Mihrab on fire. According to Ekrima Sabri, Mufti of Al-Quds, the minute news of the fire spread in the Old City of Al-Quds, men, women and children began bringing cans of water and sand to try to put the fire out.

“Israeli authorities banned Civil Defense vehicles in Al-Quds from taking part in putting out the fire, and delayed other vehicles from Al-Khalil, Beitlahm, Ramallah and El-Birehfrom reaching the site,” Sabri said.

The fire lasted for four hours and burned 1500 square meters of the 4400 square meters that comprise the compound of the mosque.

The fired gutted the southeastern wing of the mosque, known as Haram Al Sharif (Noble sanctuary).

The fire also destroyed one-thousand year old wood, and ivory pulpit. After the fire, Jordan fixed the mosque at a cost of nearly 9 million US dollars.

This attack was one in a long list of threats to Islamic holy sites and Muslim presence in Al-Quds before and since. Under Israeli military occupation, Al-Quds’ native Palestinians, Muslims and Christians live under siege.

Zionist authorities routinely subject Palestinians in Al-Quds to forced expulsions, home demolitions, land confiscation, ethnic segregation and seizure of identity cards.

Since March 1993, when Zionist regime imposed a closure on Al-Quds, it has prevented Palestinian Muslims and Christians from entering the holy city without special permits that are nearly impossible to obtain.

These policies are intended to create conditions of psychological and economic pressure such that non-Jews are forced to move out of the city altogether.

Zionist regime is digging 20 tunnels under the Aqsa Mosque in occupied Al-Quds some of which are already open for tourists while others are still under construction, the executive director of Quds Institution, Ziad Al-Hassan, said.

Dr. Talib Abu Sha’ar the minister of endowments and religious affairs said that the city of Al-Quds and the Al-Aqsa Mosque are facing the most treacherous scheme since the Zionist occupation in 1948.

He said, in a statement, that the demolition orders continue to be handed to ‘Jerusalem’ (Qods) citizens on a daily basis, the latest of which was a batch of eight demolition orders handed to eight Palestinian residents of the Selwan neighbourhood to the south of the Aqsa Mosque.

World's first English-language Shia television

In an unprecedented step seen as ‘revolutionary’ the world’s first exclusively English Islamic TV channel was launched today on BSkyB from its London headquarters. The channel which carries the name ‘Ahlulbayt’ (meaning ‘Holy Household’) is a part of the Ahlulbayt Media Group, an established corporation in the world of digital and print media. The viewer assisted channel is staffed by British professionals from many different backgrounds.

According to the channel’s official Press Kit, the channel is “dedicated to broadcasting the pristine message of the Holy Household exclusively in English”. More specifically, the new TV network aims to serve the new generation of Muslims living in the West, addressing contemporary issues through cutting edge programming and world-class shows, while also pioneering a new means of informing non-Muslims about Islam and dispelling common misconceptions through “Wisdom and gracious exhortation”.

It is noteworthy that while the initial launch caters for UK audiences through the Sky platform, the channel is a true global network covering the United States, Canada, UK, and soon, continental Europe, Middle East, and Australia.

“The choice of London as the channel’s HQ came as a natural choice” said a representative of the network. “London is a model of peaceful coexistence between Muslims and the West and one of the world’s foremost centers of academic excellence and scholarly research, where people of all faiths practice free of fear or hindrance”.

One of the objectives of the channel, according to its charter, is to “take a firm and unequivocal stance against hateful ideology.. and present the Ahlulbayt school of thought as the true spirit of this great religion and the only solution to the troubling rise of extremism and acts of terror which have plagued the world in recent years”.

To that end, Ahlulbayt TV represents a major turning point in television programming which is conceived and produced, with an emphasis on quality and presenting a balanced visual space for the true message of Islam, as imparted by the Holy Household through programmes that are meaningful and relevant as well as lively and entertaining.

The Ahlulbayt TV Network can now be seen on Sky channel 842 and, coming soon, Galaxy 19 (for North American viewers).

India:Jaswant slams Modi over ban on book in Gujarat

NEW DELHI: Criticizing a ban imposed on his book by Gujarat government, expelled BJP leader Jaswant Singh on Thursday said it amounted to “banning thinking” and likened the step to the one taken against noted author Salman Rushdie for his controversial work ‘Satanic Verses’.
“I am greatly saddened by it,” Singh told reporters on the Gujarat government’s decision to ban his book “Jinnah–India, Partition, Independence”.
“The day we start banning books, we are banning thinking,” said Singh, who was expelled by BJP for the book in which he has praised the Pakistan founder M A Jinnah.
He said the step taken by Gujarat government was “another example of (action taken against) Salman Rushdie and Satanic Verses” which was banned for its controversial contents on Islam.
Asked to comment on BJP’s contention that he had been expelled for his uncharitable comments in the book against Sardar Patel and that his views on Jinnah were different from those of LK Advani, he said, “Let me understand why (I was expelled). Nobody has told me”.
On his continuance as MP from Darjeeling, he said he got a telephonic call from his constituency that the people there wanted him to continue as their representative in Lok Sabha.
Gujarat government last night banned Jaswant’s book on Jinnah alleging it was an attempt to defame the image of the country’s first Home Minister Vallabhbhai Patel by “questioning his patriotic spirit”.
“Jaswant Singh’s book questions role of Sardar Patel during the partition of India as well as his patriotic spirit. This is an attempt to tarnish the image of Patel who is considered the architect of modern united India,” a statement issued by the state government said.
“It is a bid to defame Patel by distorting historical facts,” it charged. “So, the state government has decided to ban the book with immediate effect for wider public interest,” it said.
“As per the ban, there cannot be sale, distribution or publication of the book in the state,” it said.

Canadian Shia purchase a mosque

The first Iranian mosque purchased in Vancouver – the largest city and major seaport located in the Lower Mainland of southwestern British Columbia (BC), Canada – on the birthday of the last Shia Imam Mahdi (AS), after years of unremitting attempt.
The importance of the matter is attentive when you know that some educational-cultural centers in Persian exist in Vancouver and the need of providing the Islamic safe atmosphere for them is more obvious.
The first steps of buying the mosque took on the 10th night of Moharram 1429 (Ashura); when there was no place for rituals the Moharram ritual held in a church instead of mosque.
At that night with the ambitious of Iranian Muslim and with the favor of Imam Hessian (AS) during 30 minutes about 600.000 $ gathered and with the help of Allah after 7 month, in the honored month of Shaban and in the Birthday of the last Imam Mahdi (AS) the building purchased and became their mosque.

Million Shia Muslims celebrate auspicious anniversary birthday of Imam Mahdi (a.s) in holy KARBALA

HOLY CITY OF KARBALA, Iraq: Atmosphere in the holy city of Karbala is overflowing with further spirituality, bliss and happiness as festivals and a’maal marking fifteenth Sha’ban (night between 14-15 Sha’ban Thursday-Friday) began at the holy Shrine of Al-Imam Ab Abdellah Al-Hussein (pbuh) on Thursday, August 6, eve of Sha’ban 15.

Statistics show that millions of devotees have reached this beautifully bedecked holy city to observe Zyarah Ash-Sha’baniyah, which is the best amal (deed) of this blessed night of Sha’ban 15.

From the advent of the month of Sha’ban, devotees from across the country and other parts of the world – young and old, men and women, mostly on foot, some individually, some in caravans -, carrying white, green and red banners and standards were heading to the holy city to achieve the honor of visiting Imam Al-Hussein (pbuh) marking 15 Sha’ban.

Zyarah Ash-Sha`baniyah, or the mid Sha`ban visit to Al-Imam Al-Hussein (pbuh), is one of the most important zyaraat, according to narrations.

As various narrations urge this visit, flocks of believers had been in practice of heading to this holy city for the visit of Al-Imam Al-Hussein (AS) shrine every year despite strict measures taken by the ousted despot Saddam regime which was used to commit atrocities against the pilgrims preventing them from going to holy Karbala this day. The devotees were used to defy tyrannical rule and persevered in performance of rituals of this visit sacrificing for this expensive and precious things subjecting themselves for security pursuit and detention many times.

In 1991 on this occasion, large number of pilgrims was martyred, went missing and detained at the hands of Baathist regime as a punishment for heading to Holy Karbala for visit of the holy Husseini Shrine.

Narrations from A’immah Ahlul Bayt (pbut) say that fifteenth night of Sha’ban is the best after the night of Qadr.

It has been narrated from holy Prophet (pbuh&hp)’s fifth infallible descendant Al-Imam Al-Baqer (pbuh) that: “This is the best night after the Night of Qadr. In this night, Allah grants the servants His favor and forgives them with His blessing, so spare no effort in nearing Allah therein. This is a night wherein Allah has made obligatory for Him He would not send one, who asks him, empty handed… and this is the night which Allah has made for Us – the Prophet’s progeny (Ahlul Bayt) – as He made the Night of Qadr for our Prophet …”

The birth of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh&hp)’s last descendant Savior of Humanity Al-Imam Al-Hojjah bin Al-Hassan Al-Mehdi Al-Montazar (pbuh) in Sorra Mann Ra’a (Samarra), Iraq in 255 AH increased the honor and excellence of this night.

According to the sayings of holy Prophet (pbuh&hp), Imam Mehdi (pbuh) will return to deliver humanity from darkness and strife, and he will fill the earth with justice and equity as it would have been filled with oppression and injustice.

Thursday’s A’maal will culminate with the floating of hundreds of candles and letters to Imam Al-Mehdi – Imam of the Era (may Allah hasten his reappearance) – on a river in Holy Karbala at Friday pre-dawn (Sha’ban 15, August 7).
