Iraqi PM Exposes Vast Corruption in Army , Result Shows 30% ” Ghost Soldiers “
JNN 06 Dec 2014 Baghdad : Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi says a probe results show there are 50,000 “ Ghost soldiers” in the Iraqi army.
“The prime minister revealed the existence of 50,000 fictitious names,” Abadi’s spokesman Rafid Jaboori said on Sunday, adding, “Over the past few weeks, the premier has been cracking down to expose the ghost soldiers and get to the root of the problem.”
The Iraqi prime minister discovered the existence of the soldiers after conducting an official head-count of the army during the payment phase.
“Haidar al-Abadi is setting integrity, efficiency, and courage as the criteria to appoint a new military leadership. This weeding out process will extend beyond the military to all state institutions,” the spokesman added.
The “ghost soldiers”, aka “fadhaiyin,” are fictitious soldiers formulated to be a source of extra income for officers.
“There are two kinds of fadhaiyin,” AFP quoted an officer in the security forces as saying. “The first kind: each officer is allowed, for example, five guards. He’ll keep two, send three home, and pocket their salary or an agreed percentage.
“Then the second and bigger group is at the brigade level. A brigade commander usually has 30, 40, or more soldiers who stay at home or don’t exist. The problem is that he, too, to keep his job as a brigade commander, has to bribe his own hierarchical superiors with huge amounts of money.”
Up to 30 percent of the Iraqi army could be imaginary, Mohammed Othman al-Khalidi, a former member of the Iraqi Parliament said recently.
“It could be more than triple this number,” said Hamid al-Mutlaq, a member of the parliamentary defense and security committee, adding, “The people who are responsible for this should be punished. Iraq’s safe has been emptied.”
The Iraqi premier has vowed to identify the elements behind the corruption in the army and bring them to justice.
On November 12, al-Abadi dismissed 26 military commanders and retired 10 more in an anti-corruption drive.
“The military leadership should have competence, and this is an important thing, as it is not possible for someone who is not efficient to do his work properly,” Abadi said via state television.
The prime minister’s military shakeup has been deemed an apparent effort to improve the Iraqi army’s performance against the ISIL Takfiri terrorists.
On October 7, Iraq’s top Shia cleric, Ayatollah Ali Sistani, linked corruption in the armed forces to ISIL’s capture of large regions in the country.
Corruption in the military is one of the reasons morale in the Iraqi army was so low. There was also nepotism, in the government of former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, who is working now as the Deputy Prime Minister.
Abadi took office in September after weeks of post-election power struggle. Among his first moves was the sacking several military commanders in an attempt to mobilize the armed forces to fight the IS.
The US-led coalition conducting airstrikes against the IS is considering retaking the territories by sending boots on the ground the job to assist the Iraqi army. So far the most vigorous force opposing the IS’ expansion is the Kurdish militia, both in Iraq and in Syria.
The ISIL militants have been committing terrible atrocities in Iraq and Syria, including mass executions and beheading of local residents as well as foreign nationals.
Iraqi army soldiers have been fighting the ISIL terrorists for nearly six months now. The troops have pledged to make more gains in their battle against the extremist group.

JNN 12 July 2014 Baghdad : ISIS Takfiri Terrorist who overran Mosul last month have demolished ancient shrines and Graves of the Prophets revered By Iraqi Sunni and Mosques Used by the Iraqi Shia in and around the historic northern Iraqi city, residents and social media posts said Saturday.
At least two Graves of the Prophets of Islam , four shrines to Sunni Arab or Sufi figures have been demolished, while six Shiite mosques, or Husseiniyahs ( Imambargah ) , have also been destroyed, across militant-held parts of northern Nineveh province, of which Mosul is the capital.
Pictures posted on the Internet by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) showed the Sunni and Sufi shrines were demolished by bulldozers, while the Shiite mosques and shrines were all destroyed by explosives.
The photographs were part of an online statement titled “Demolishing shrines and idols in the state of Nineveh.”
Takfiri terrorists of so-called Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has destroyed the grave of Prophet Younus ‘Jonah’ (P.B.U.H) after getting control of some parts of Mosul Iraq.
Local residents confirmed that the buildings had been destroyed and that terrorists had occupied two cathedrals as well.
“We feel very sad for the demolition of these shrines, which we inherited from our fathers and grandfathers,” said Ahmed, a 51-year-old resident of Mosul.
“They are landmarks in the city.”
An employee at Mosul’s Chaldean cathedral said terrorists had occupied both it and the Syrian Orthodox cathedral in the city after finding them empty.
They removed the crosses at the front of the buildings and replaced them with the Islamic State’s black flag, the employee said.
Christians are also worried about their holy places as the ISIS insurgents destroyed the statue of the virtuous Miriam in the churches.
In Iraq, there are nearly 12 ancient archaeological sites and Nineveh province has lots of archaeological landmarks, temples and other historical sites. One of the most famous is a shrine for Prophet Yunus (Jonah).
ISIS-led terrorists overran Mosul last month and swiftly took control of much of the rest of Nineveh, as well as parts of four other provinces north and west of Baghdad, in an offensive that has displaced hundreds of thousands and alarmed the international community.
But the Latest Scenario is that the Iraqi Forces and the Iraqi Volunteers have Jointly started an Operation Clean up in the Different Provinces and Districts and One By One they are re captured by them , and the ISIS terrorists are on the Run , even the Leader of the ISIS Abu Bakar has been severely injured in an attack by the Iraqi Air force Raid , and since then is on the Run , and there are very strong chances that he may not survive the injuries , and May succumb to his injuries.
The city, home to two million residents before the offensive, was a Middle East trading hub for centuries, its name translating loosely as “the junction.”
Though more recently populated mostly by Sunni Arabs, Mosul and Nineveh were also home to many Shiite Arabs as well as ethnic and religious minorities such as Kurds, Turkmen, Yazidis and other sects.
