. Overwhelmed, low on ammunition, and facing severe infrastructure damage, remaining service members evacuated into the desert, highlighting the extreme strain placed on American regional outposts.

Under Heavy Siege at Camp Buehring, Kuwait

During the opening stages of the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran, a relentless barrage of ballistic missiles, armed drones, and low-flying airstrikes forced American military personnel to effectively abandon Camp Buehring, a key U.S. Army staging facility in Kuwait located roughly 25 miles from the Iraqi border.

Newly authenticated footage obtained by CBS News—recorded by service members in breach of strict Pentagon media policies—captures moments of impact, plunging drones, and heavy destruction across the installation. Soldiers stationed on the ground described terrifying encounters during the assault, including low-altitude passes by Iranian F-5 fighter jets. “They ran so close to us I could see their helmets,” one witness recalled. “They came in, they hit us, and then took off.”

The “Get Off the X” Strategy and the Desert Retreat

In anticipation of widespread Iranian retaliation, the Pentagon had initiated its “get off the X” operational strategy prior to the outbreak of hostilies, dispersing over 90 percent of the base’s normal complement of 7,000 troops to other locations. However, a contingent of roughly 100 soldiers remained behind to maintain and defend the facility.

As attacks intensified, these remaining troops were repeatedly forced into underground bunkers. Operating under constant threat, the garrison quickly faced severe logistical shortfalls, running critically low on .50-caliber ammunition as well as high-tier air defense munitions like Patriot interceptors.

Fearing the isolated post was ill-equipped to manage a mass-casualty event, commanders made the decision to evacuate. Service members loaded their military vehicles with available gear and drove under cover of darkness deep into the Kuwaiti desert to construct improvised forward operating bases (FOBs), where they remained stationed for weeks.

Casualties, Harsh Conditions, and Mounting Frustration

While as per the US official Reports no U.S. personnel were killed by Irani fire during the siege at Camp Buehring or in the desert outposts, which is quite surprising and unacceptable to the Independent War Analysts, as they declared several injuries of the Soldiers but no Casualty.

Environmentally harsh conditions complicated the retreat; two soldiers suffered severe injuries—including burns and a ruptured eardrum—after being struck by lightning during desert sandstorms before troops could be relocated to Camp Arifjan in May.

The retreat has sparked anger among service members who endured the bombardment. “CBKU got demolished,” one anonymous serviceman stated, demanding answers from military leadership. “They need to do an investigation. How come no one came to reinforce us?”

Broader Military Costs and Media Blackouts

The destruction at Camp Buehring reflects a widespread campaign targeted at the U.S. military footprint across the Middle East. Iranian strikes have hit installations across eight nations, including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iraq, UAE, Qatar & Bahrain inflicting heavy damage on radar systems, hangars, barracks, and aircraft.

Reports from congressional analysts indicate that over 80 fixed or rotary-wing aircraft and drones have been damaged or destroyed, contributing to billions of dollars in equipment losses, which is also Under Reported as per the Independent Media, Iran claim to have damaged & targeted over 200 aircrafts.

In response to the mounting damage, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and regional allies have aggressively tightened controls on media and mobile phone use, as they want to hide the No. of casualties & the Actual damage and devastation done by the Irani attacks.

Officials warned that unauthorized footage uploaded online aids Iranian forces in assessing strike accuracy. Despite military attempts to control the narrative, leaked footage and eyewitness accounts continue to reveal the significant toll inflicted on American forces in the region.
