JNN 9TH September 2026, Amman / Tehran: The Yemeni armed forces have launched a massive military operation targeting Saudi Aramco oil facilities and military airbases across southern Saudi Arabia, in direct retaliation for a brutal three-day bombing campaign by Riyadh that included a deadly massacre at a Yemeni prison.

In a statement issued on Tuesday,Yemeni armed forces spokesperson Brigadier General Yahya Saree announced that dozens of ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) struck Aramco infrastructure in the cities of Abha, Najran, and Jizan, as well as the King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushait. and Jazan, a major Red Sea port city that houses a large refinery and power plant.

He described the strikes as “precise and direct,” causing significant damage to the targeted facilities.

NASA satellite images showed a thick cloud of black smoke over the Jazan refinery and a column of white smoke rising from an oil distribution centre in Abha.

No confirmed images from the ground of the aftermath of the attacks on Saudi cities were available and witnesses could not be reached in a ⁠country where media is tightly controlled. The Houthis released pictures of explosions of what they said were trucks from Saudi Arabia they had hit in separate strikes at the border in another area the previous day.

Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree accused Riyadh of having escalated the war by launching airstrikes on Yemen, and said the Houthis would respond.

The unprecedented escalation comes in response to 121 Saudi airstrikes launched over the past 72 hours against multiple Yemeni governorates, including Ma’rib, Al-Bayda, Al-Hudaydah, Taiz, and Al-Jawf.
The most devastating of these attacks targeted the central prison in the Al-Hazm district of Al-Jawf province.

According to the Yemeni Ministry of Public Health and Population, the airstrike left 14 casualties: seven people were killed, including six inmates and a visiting child, and seven others were wounded, including a female visitor.

Rescue and search operations are still ongoing at the targeted site.

“The criminal Saudi enemy launched a brutal and unjust aggression… committing grave crimes, the latest of which is the Al-Jawf massacre,” Saree stated.

He said that Riyadh is attempting to occupy the country and kill its people in a major escalation that ultimately serves American and Israeli interests.

General Saree emphasized that Saudi Arabia has launched these new rounds of airstrikes and committed further massacres in tandem with a tight, suffocating blockade against its southern neighbor.

He warned that the Yemeni military will not let the aggression go unanswered, promising even stronger and wider strikes if the attacks continue.

‘Siege for siege’ equation
Alongside the retaliatory strikes, Yemeni air defense units continue to repel Saudi aerial incursions.

On Monday, forces shot down a Saudi CH-4 reconnaissance and precision-strike drone over Jawf, marking the fourth Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) drone downed in a 24-hour period.

The Yemeni military reiterated its commitment to the “siege for a siege” equation.

“All the actions, attacks, and troop buildups of the Saudi enemy will not intimidate our beloved country,” the Armed Forces declared, vowing to continue operations deep inside Saudi territory until the aggression ceases and the blockade is fully lifted.

On July 20, the Sana’a government imposed a maritime blockade on Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea, targeting vessels associated with the kingdom.
This move was announced as a direct countermeasure to the oppressive 12-year land, air, and sea blockade imposed on Yemen by Riyadh.

The current flare-up is the latest chapter in a devastating war that began in March 2015, when Saudi Arabia and a coalition of allies launched a comprehensive military offensive and blockade against Yemen.

According to the Tasnim News Agency’s Defense Department, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy announced in Announcement No. 12 that it had hunted down an American enemy’s intelligent submarine in the Strait of Hormuz.

The navy of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said on Tuesday it had captured an unmanned U.S. submersible at the mouth of the strait. There was no immediate confirmation from Washington.

American MQ-1 Drone Downed by Iran over Strait of Hormuz

The Iranian Army announced that its air defense units have shot down a US MQ-1 drone over the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Iranian Army said its air defense forces detected, tracked and targeted the drone in Southeastern Iran before striking and destroying it.The army noted that the operation was carried out using “a new advanced air defense system”.

Iran’s air defense forces have compiled a remarkable record of aerial victories during the ongoing war and previous conflicts with the United States.During the 40-day US-Israeli war against Iran, Iranian air defense units destroyed hundreds of advanced enemy drones, including MQ-9 Reapers, Hermes, and LUCAS models. They have also successfully targeted multiple US military aircraft, including F-35 stealth fighters, F-15s and F-16s, along with refueling planes.

The Iranian Army added that the operation was conducted “under the control of the country’s integrated air defense network.”

FIGHTING DRIVES UP OIL PRICES

After a month of calm in August, fighting in the Gulf has resumed, with Iran and the U.S. exchanging fire, sending global oil prices back towards the $100 a barrel level surpassed at the war’s peak. Brent crude reached $99.46 on Tuesday, the highest since July 24, and U.S. WTI crude hit its highest level since June 8. Both benchmarks eased a bit by afternoon in Europe but were still up on the day.

The ⁠fighting has caused global shortages of crude oil and the fuels produced by refining it. Diesel fuel in the United States is now at a record average retail price of more than $5.90 a gallon, harming the political prospects of President Donald Trump’s Republicans.

Tehran has announced new measures to seal off the strait, saying it will soon unveil details of a “maritime exclusion zone” that will extend from the perimeter of the U.S. blockade, through the strait and into the Gulf itself.
