JNN 25 April 2011 : The Supreme Court directed the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) to amend laws to include eunuchs in the gender column of the identification records

The court gave the verdict after hearing a petition regarding the registration of eunuchs across the country.

Talking to the media after the hearing, the president of the Shemale Association of Pakistan, Almas Boby, expressed gratitude to the court for granting the community their rights.

Nadra in December 2010 had agreed to add a third option under the gender category in identity card forms.

Nadra had said that the applications forms for CNICs would contain the third option of ‘Khwaja sara’ (transgender) along with ‘male’ and ‘female’.
