Larijani Meets Turkish, Pakistani Officials


Iran’s Majlis Speaker Dr. Ali Larijani in a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmed Davotoglu said the oppressed Palestinian people in the current sensitive situation need to receive a firm message of support from Muslim states in realization of their denied birthrights.

Larijani said the holding of Inter-parliamentary Conference on the issue of Palestine in Istanbul is appreciable.

The Turkish Foreign Minister for his part expressed hope the Istanbul conference can deliver a strong message in support of the rights of Palestinians.

Larijani, in a separate meeting with his Turkish counterpart Mohammad Ali Shahin, regarded Iran and Turkey as two important and influential countries in the region, and said Istanbul-Tehran relations are based on mutual trust.

He also welcomed Ankara’s role in efforts to defuse the crisis raised by the West over Iran’s peaceful nuclear issue.

The Turkish Parliament Speaker for his part expressed happiness over the growing trend of Tehran-Ankara cooperation and said that the consultations between the Iranian and Turkish parliaments can be an effective for more expansion of cooperation.

Iran’s Majlis Speaker also conferred with his Pakistani counterpart, Mrs. Fahmidah Mirza. In the meeting, Larijani said the information obtained from the recently captured terrorist Abdul-Malek Rigi shows direct US support for terrorism in the region.

Larijani said the US is following a dual policy in the occupied countries of Iraq and Afghanistan, and said that the examples of such a dubious US policy can be seen in its support for terrorist groups including the Taliban.

Fahmidah Mirza for her part welcomed expansion of Iran-Pakistan economic relations and added that progress in the project of transferring Iran’s gas to Pakistan are a good example of such cooperation.
