Ahlul Bayt News Agency , Parliament speakers and parliamentarians from 29 Islamic countries, including Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan and Syria, adopted Istanbul Declaration here on Monday, calling on Israel to halt all settlement activities in Jerusalem.
Istanbul Declaration was adopted at the second extraordinary meeting of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC)-member states (PUOICM) held at the Conrad Hilton Hotel, Istanbul.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Syrian Parliament Speaker Mahmoud Al Abrash were among those parliament speakers from 14 countries. Deputy parliament speakers from 5 countries and parliamentarians from 10 countries attended the meeting.
The declaration condemned the continuing Israeli provocative and deliberate acts in Jerusalem and other Palestinian cities while urging Muslims and Christians in all parts of the world to work together to protect sacred sites, heritage and history in Jerusalem.
Addressing the delegates at the inauguration of the meeting, Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference ( OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said, Israel was trying to end Palestinians’ existence in Jerusalem.
Ihsanoglu said that Israel was implementing a secret plan in Jerusalem and gaining international advantage.
The issues of the Palestinians and Jerusalem are of concern to the whole Islamic community. Palestinians are going through terrible days like never before, Ihsanoglu added.
“Jerusalem happens to be under danger. Jerusalem is under Israeli occupation like never before. The identity of people living in Jerusalem is being changed with political and demographic measures,” he said.
