‘US plotting new coup in Venezuela’

JNN 02 Jan 2o11 : The appointment of an ambassador by the US “who was really discussing Venezuelan military loyalty and morale … is really a discussion of the potential of a new coup in Venezuela,” said Sara Flounders, Co-Director of International Action Center in New York.

In an interview with Press TV, Flounders noted that “Venezuela has been a victim of US coup d’état and attempted coups. President [Hugo] Chavez himself [was a victim] of a direct US sponsored coup in 2002.”

Tensions have flared up between the United States and Venezuela since August after US President Barack Obama nominated Larry Palmer as the US ambassador to Caracas.

However, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez insisted that Palmer was not welcomed after the diplomat leveled harsh criticism against Venezuela during his US Senate confirmation hearings months ago.

At the time, Palmer had claimed that morale is low in Venezuela’s military and also linked the government to leftist rebels in neighboring Colombia.

On Wednesday, the US revoked the visa of Venezuelan Ambassador to Washington Bernardo Alvarez.

Flounders referred to the US’ “policy of making threats and counter-threats,” and insisted that “Venezuela quite rightly rejected [Palmer] and has insisted on relations of mutual respect.”

US national debt climbs to $14 trillion

JNN 05 Jan 2011 : The US national debt has climbed to a record high of over $14 trillion amid concerns that the figure might surpass the debt ceiling set by the Congress.

The US Treasury reported on Tuesday that the national debt gained over $1 trillion since June, soaring to $14.02 trillion on December 31 from $13 trillion on June 1, as a fresh showdown between Democrats and Republicans looms large in deciding how the government should avert defaulting on its obligations, CBS News reported.

According to new statistics, the national debt stood at a whopping $14,025,215,218,708.52 – or $126,632 for every American taxpayer.

Meanwhile, concerns are running high that the increase could finally hit the statutory debt limit of $14.294 trillion set by the Congress and signed into law by US President Barak Obama in February last year.

Republicans, who have constantly campaigned on the platform of fiscal responsibility, have vowed to block an increase in the US debt ceiling, insisting that federal spending and unfunded government liabilities on entitlement programs should be slashed.

Last year, the US Congress voted to raise the debt ceiling to $14.3 trillion.

However, if the Congress does not vote to raise the debt limit this year, the likelihood of the governments’ default on its financial obligations would significantly increase.

The impact on the state of the US economy would be “catastrophic” if the federal government defaulted on its financial obligations, said White House economic adviser Austan Goolsbee.

“That would be the first default in history caused purely by insanity,” he emphasized.

The report comes as the worsening economic recession and vaulting debt crisis continue to wreak havoc in the US economy

‘US losing power in Latin America’

JNN 02 Jan 2011 : An analyst says US aggressive stance against Latin American and Caribbean countries shows Washington’s anger over its diminishing influence in the region.

The region “is no longer directly under the thumb of the US corporate power and US military power,” Co-Director of International Action Center Sara Flounders said.

“That certainly is infuriating US policy makers, the Pentagon, and the corporations that are used to treating the economies of Latin America as extensions; as sources of cheap raw material and cheap labor,” she told Press TV.

Flounders specifically referred to the US attempts to rig Venezuela-Colombia relations as an evident example of Washington’s agenda for destabilizing the region.

“Any reconciliation or improvement in relations between Colombia and Venezuela would be to US detriment, and certainly to the detriment of the US military presence in Colombia,” she added.

Flounders argued that the US has, for many years, used fighting drugs as an excuse for its military presence in Colombia.

However, its main aim is “stopping a popular movement in Colombia from becoming a force such as have happened throughout Latin America, where democratic and popular forces have really swept elections and made enormous transformations and changes,” she said

Iran shoots down two spy Drone Planes in Gulf

JNN 02 Jan 2011 TEHRAN: Iran has shot down two unmanned western reconnaissance drone aircraft in the Gulf, a senior Revolutionary Guards commander told the semi-official Fars news agency on Sunday.

“Many spy planes and advanced planes of our enemies have been shot down (by our forces) … We have also shot down two spy planes in the Persian Gulf,” said commander Amir Ali Hajizadeh. “But it is the first time we are announcing it.”

He did not say when the hostile aircraft had been shot down, but described them as western drone reconnaissance aircraft.

Iran is at odds with major powers over its nuclear activities, which the United States and its allies suspect are intended to enable Iran to produce nuclear bombs. Iran denies the allegations and says it wants only to generate electricity.

It is now a time for Pakistani Government to learn a lesson , and should also act and start Shooting down the Drone Planes , as these Drone attacks only  serves the  American and Western Nations Plan to Dis Integrate Pakistan , as due to which the local Public is coming face to face to the armed forces of  Pakistan, And as per US Plans , they just want to Divide and Rule the Only Recognized Muslim Nuclear Powered Nation , the drone attacks have been counter Productive , in curtailing the War against terror , these Drone attacks  have just fueling the Terrorism , and give the support of Local People to the US sponsored terrorist, whether they may be Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan , Sipah e Sahaba Pakistan, Lashkar e Jhangvi , Jundullah , Jaish e Mohd, Lashkar e Taiba, or any other allied Banned Terrorist Outfit .

Pakistan is on the Map of the world on such a strategic Position , that it can settle the War in any body’s favour if it wants , and can change the future of this region , from China to Russia , rather Whole of the world. So it is time that the Top Military Brass of Pakistan should start considering the Options to calling their shots.  And stop taking the dictation from their enemies , which now they have even realize and confirms , As every body knows that History not only remembers Heroes like Tipu Sultan , But also recalls Mir Jaffar & Mir Sadiq , so the Option is all with them to Live like a Lion , or to have a long life of a Jackal , But at the same time History have told that these Westerner the Champions of all the liberties , What they have done to Mir Jaffer and Mir Sadiq , and You don’t have to go back and recall the Far gone History , while the Recent Past even shows what they have Done to there Greatest Allies like Gen. Zia ul Haq,  Once their Motive is achieved .

'Most Americans oppose Afghan war'

JNN 31 Dec 2010 : A new opinion poll has found that opposition to the Afghan war is at an all-time high in the US as security situation continues to worsen in Afghanistan.

A new CNN/Opinion Research poll (PDF) released on Thursday shows that more than sixty percent Americans are now opposed to the war in Afghanistan.

There is also a growing pessimism in the American public about the way things are going for the US in the war, the poll suggests.

In response to a question on how “things are going” in the warzone 56 percent responded with “moderately badly” or “very badly.”

The US President Barack Obama ordered the deployment of 30,000 additional soldiers in Afghanistan about a year ago.

However, security situation continued to deteriorate across the war-ravaged country in 2010 — the deadliest year for foreign presence in Afghanistan.

The total death toll of US-led troops has surpassed the 700 milestone, with the Americans accounting for most of the casualties.

In the review of his war strategy in Afghanistan this month, Obama declared that the war “continues to be a very difficult endeavor” and the achievements made there are “fragile and reversible.”

Obama had pledged a major drawdown from Afghanistan by July 2011. However, Washington later announced that American troops will remain in the war-torn country for at least four more years.

The 2001 US-led invasion was launched with the objective of bringing peace and stability to Afghanistan.

After nine years and despite the presence of over 150,000 US-led troops across Afghanistan, the country’s security remains very fragile.

Moreover, according to the United Nations, the death toll of Afghan civilians this year is 20 percent higher than in 2009, with over 2,400 civilians killed in the country from January to September.

We must act now to prevent another Hiroshima – or worse

JNN 25 Dec 2010 : American leaders not only have abandoned existing treaty restraints but also have asserted plans to test and develop new weapons, including Anti-Ballistic missiles, the earth-penetrating ‘bunker buster’ and perhaps some new ‘small’ bombs.

Current US nuclear weapons policy is immoral, illegal, unnecessary and dreadfully dangerous, which create unacceptable risks to other nations of the world.

The recent 65th anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki prompts only the most somber reflection and most fervent hope that the same crime may never be repeated. In the subsequent 65 years, those bombings have haunted the world’s imagination but not so much as to curb the development and spread of infinitely more lethal weapons of mass destruction.

A related concern, discussed in technical literature well before 11 September 2001, is that nuclear weapons may sooner or later fall into the hands of the so-called terrorist groups. US military expenditures approximate those of the rest of the world combined, while arms sales by 38 North American companies account for more than 60 per cent of the world total which has risen 25 per cent since 2002.

There have been efforts to strengthen the thin thread on which survival hangs. The most important is the nuclear NPT, which came into force in 1970. The regular Seven-year review conference of the NPT took place at the United Nations.

The NPT has been facing collapse, primarily because of the failure of the nuclear states to live up to their obligation under Article VI to pursue “good faith” efforts to eliminate all nuclear weapons. The United States has led the way in refusal to abide by the Article VI obligations. Head of the International Atomic Energy Agency emphasizes that “reluctance by one party to fulfill its obligations breeds reluctance in others”.

Former President Jimmy Carter blasted the United States as “the major culprit in the erosion of the NPT. While claiming to be protecting the world from proliferation threats, American leaders not only have abandoned existing treaty restraints but also have asserted plans to test and develop new weapons, including Anti-Ballistic missiles, and perhaps some new ‘small’ atomic bombs. They also have abandoned past pledges and now threaten first use of nuclear weapons against non-nuclear states”. Current US nuclear weapons policy is immoral, illegal, unnecessary and dreadfully dangerous, which create unacceptable risks to other nations of the world.

The Washington leadership put aside non-proliferation programs and devoted its energies and resources to driving the country to war by extraordinary deceit, then tried to manage the catastrophe it created in Iraq.

Peter Bergen, a US terrorism specialist, says in The Boston Globe that “the President is right that Iraq is a main front in the war on terrorism, but this is a front American leaders created”.

It is a critical era, in the United States, because of Washington’s primary role in accelerating the race to destruction by extending its historically unique military dominance, and in the UK too, which goes along with the US as its sincere loyalist ally. Activists to launch anti-Israeli ads in US

JNN 25 Dec 2010 : A group of US peace activists have planned to launch a campaign to condemn the Zionist regime crimes against Palestinians and to protest Washington’s support for Tel Aviv.

According to AFP, the Seattle Mideast Awareness Campaign decided to plaster anti-Israel ads on the sides of 12 local commuter buses starting Monday, on the third anniversary of the start of Israel’s war against the Gaza Strip.

“Israeli war crimes: your tax dollars at work,” has been written on the buses with pictures of Palestinian children standing around a demolished building.

The Zionist regime offensive against the coastal enclave, which began in December 2008, killed more than 1,400 Palestinians, mostly women and children.

Seattle activist Ed Mast said he was protesting a 2007 promise by the United States to give 30 billion dollars in military aid to Israel over the next decade.

Bin Laden possibly dead; US silent

JNN 25 Dec 2010 : A former White House spokesman has lashed out at the US government for using ‘Osama bin Laden’ as a pretext to continue its occupation of Afghanistan.

Suggesting bin Laden may be dead, ex-spokesman Robert Weiner and James Lewis, a US national security analyst at Robert Weiner Associates wrote “Since 2004, we have seen no new bin Laden videos.”

The article published in The Washington Times last Thursday read

“We’ve only heard audios. One video released in 2007 could be a compilation of older videos. So why does the intelligence community continue to support the impression that he’s alive?”

The article read “Last week, al-Qaeda issued its annual Christmas threat to the United States, promising suicide bombings during the holidays. Here’s a better idea for a Christmas present from al-Qaeda: a video showing Osama bin Laden – or his grave.”

The two analysts in their article said “Is bin Laden dead or alive? Nobody seems to know for sure, or, if anybody does, he isn’t saying. The White House’s Afghanistan-Pakistan review this month didn’t even mention him despite an ongoing, decade-long manhunt.”

They also underlined that bin Laden is unlikely to be still alive due to his ill health.

Days of ‘Dollar’s dominance are counted now

JNN 23 Dec 2010 : Business analysts indicate that the US dollar’s status as the world’s reserve currency and the standard currency could be soon coming to an end.

This comes days after China and Russia decided to renounce the US dollar and resort to using their own currencies for bilateral trade.

“About trade settlement, we have decided to use our own currencies,” China Daily quoted Russian Premier Vladimir Putin as saying in a joint news conference with his Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao in St. Petersburg on Tuesday.

The developments come as the two countries are accustomed to using the dollar and other Western currencies for bilateral trade. But the yuan has now started trading against the Russian ruble in the Chinese interbank market.

China has also announced it will continue to allow more currencies to trade in the domestic interbank foreign-exchange market in the coming weeks.

In addition, BusinessWeek has said in a recent report that Moscow and Beijing have also called for the dollar’s role in the financial system to be diluted.

The decision comes days after China blasted a US decision to inject hundreds of billions of dollars into the US banking system.

Chinese Vice Finance Minister Zhu Guangyao said Washington was ignoring its responsibility to support emerging economies.

“The US has not fully taken into consideration the shock of excessive capital flows to the financial stability of emerging markets,” Zhu told reporters in Beijing in early November.

The US Federal Reserve has announced plans to pump USD 600 billion into its economy by the end of June 2011.

This is while China has continued to resist pressures from the US to raise the value of its yuan currency against the US dollar. Senior officials in Beijing say China will firmly stick to its own path for reforming the yuan.

The currency debate has intensified tension between the US and China. Washington says China holds the yuan low so that Chinese goods can enjoy an artificial competitive edge.

Relations between Beijing and Washington have been deteriorating over a number of issues, including the Pentagon arms sales to Taiwan.

Anti-US governor wins Okinawa poll

JNN 23 Dec 2010 : The Japanese on the southern Island of Okinawa have re-elected incumbent governor Hirokazu Nakaima, who wants an end to the American military presence.

Nakaima, who wants the US base off Okinawa altogether, beat his opponent who agreed to relocate the base to a less crowded area on the island.

In May, Tokyo and Washington agreed to implement a 2006 plan to relocate the Futenma airbase to a less crowded area in Okinawa.

The move infuriated local residents, who view the base as a source of noise, pollution and serious crime –including rape.

Futenma hosts about half the US troops in Japan and the row over this airbase has been giving new headaches to Japan’s Prime Minister Naoto Kan.

The development comes after his Democratic Party lost an upper house election in August.

Kan’s predecessor Yukio Hatoyama had to resign after he failed to keep his election campaign promise to remove the base off Okinawa.

Futenma has provoked a wave of anger in the country, with the nation demanding a complete removal of the airbase, which has been under US command since the end of World War II, off Okinawa.

Japanese people have been urging their government to remove US military installations from the country altogether.

Tens of thousands of people have held several rallies against the American military engagement in the country over the past months.

Zionist Regime of Tel Aviv bars Vananu trip for award

JNN 22 Dec 2010 : Vanunu made headlines in 1986, when he divulged shocking secrets about Tel Aviv’s nuclear activities. He was kidnapped later in Italy by Mossad’s special agents and sentenced to 18 years behind bars.

Tel Aviv has denied permission for former Israeli nuclear technician Mordechai Vanunu to leave Israel in order to collect an international award in Berlin.

A host of elites and Nobel laureates, including Irish peace activist Mairead Maguire and German writer Gunter Grass, have called on Israel to allow Vanunu to attend the International League of Human Rights prize ceremony scheduled for December 12.
Vanunu has been named as this year’s recipient of the Carl von Ossietzky Medal.

The prize is named after the renowned German pacifist, who had opposed the Nazi regime, and who was later held in a concentration camp and murdered.

Ossietzky is also famous to have been denied the Nobel Peace Prize laureate as a result of Nazi Germany’s unwillingness to allow the peace activist to leave its border when he was named laureate in 1935.

Vanunu made headlines in 1986, when he divulged shocking secrets about Tel Aviv’s nuclear activities in an interview with a British newspaper, The Sunday Times.

The disclosure cracked the secrecy around the assumed Israeli nuclear arsenal.

The Moroccan-born scientist was kidnapped later in Italy by Mossad’s special agents and sentenced to 18 years behind bars.

He reportedly spent 11 years of his prison term in solitary confinement.

Vanunu was released from prison in 2004, but has not been allowed to leave Israel.

During recent years the former technician at Israel’s main atomic reactor, Dimona, has constantly protested against the Tel Aviv-imposed restrictions and his lack of freedom and has appealed to international bodies for help.

In 2007, the controversial figure was once again sentenced to six months in jail for violating the terms of his parole.

Vanunu who has converted to Christianity has become a hero for many peace activists, and was nominated several times for a Nobel Prize.

In March 2009, he responded by writing the following to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee:

“I am asking the committee to remove my name from the list for this year’s list of nominations,” he said, arguing that “I cannot be part of a list of laureates that includes (Israeli President) Shimon Peres. He is the man who was behind all the Israeli atomic policy.”

US preparing for ‘new Pakistan raids’

JNN 21 Dec 2010 : A new report discloses that US commanders in Afghanistan are preparing to go ahead with a plan to expand ground operations into tribal areas of Pakistan.

Citing unnamed Washington officials, The New York Times said that the proposal would escalate special operations in Pakistan, opening a new front in the Afghan war.

The proposal “would escalate military activities inside Pakistan, where the movement of American forces has been largely prohibited because of fears of provoking a backlash,” it said.

The report comes only days after Washington employed a new strategy for the Afghan war.

The paper added that the new proposal is waiting for approval from US President Barack Obama.

“The decision to expand American military activity in Pakistan … would amount to the opening of a new front in the nine-year-old war,” said the report.

The United States has expanded its drone strike zones in Pakistan over the past week.

The US has almost doubled CIA-operated attacks, with over 100 non-UN-sanctioned strikes reported in 2010. The escalation comes despite protests by Pakistani officials that the drone attacks mainly lead to civilian casualties.

“It would run the risk of angering a Pakistani government that has been an uneasy ally in the war in Afghanistan, particularly if it leads to civilian casualties or highly public confrontations,” The newspaper added.

On Sunday, US Vice President Joe Biden suggested that the US is seeking to increase its presence in Pakistan because militants are trying to “bring down” the Islamabad government.

“Our overarching goal and our rationale for being there is to dismantle, ultimately defeat al-Qaeda… to make sure that terrorists do not, in fact, bring down the Pakistani government, which is a nuclear power,” Biden said in an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday.

The remarks come days after Obama blamed Pakistan for not doing enough to fight terrorism in its troubled northwestern tribal belt along the Afghan border.

More than 250 people have been killed in a total of 49 drone attacks the US has launched since September 3. The victims of the attacks have been mostly civilians.

Pakistani officials maintain that the missile strikes have proven “counterproductive” as large numbers of outraged residents of the border areas are beginning to support the militants.

“We believe that they are counter-productive and also a violation of our sovereignty,” Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdul Basit said in early October.

In late November, Islamabad rejected a request from Washington to expand its drone missile campaign outside the lawless tribal belt along the Afghan border.

Basit said Pakistan would not allow the United States to carry out drone strikes in new areas.

FBI now spying on your garbage

JNN 18 Dec 2010 : Former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents are helping local authorities turn thousands of garbage collectors into a spy force that reports to the police.

Reports say 100 Waste Management employees have already gone through a training program called Waste Watch, CBS 6 Albany/WRGB reported on Friday.

“Because our job is collecting trash from local neighborhoods and businesses, we are a useful resource to identify illegal activity, or to help prevent a minor mishap from turning into a dangerous situation,” said Ken Bevis, district manager of Waste Management in Albany, New York.

Bevis added that all Waste Management drivers, helpers, and repair technicians have been trained to look out for suspicious activities and respond in the event of an emergency.

Officials believe that garbage collectors who go through the same route every day are able to recognize situations that are not normal.

Police hope that they will be able to help keep streets clear of crime as well. But not everyone is sold on the idea.

Waste Watch is already active in 100 communities across the United States. The total figure of informants could already number at least 10,000 nationwide.

Critics say the program is an example of how the United States is turning into an East German-style informant society.

Six more banks out of business in US

JNN 18 Dec 2010 : Regulators in the United States have closed six more banks in four different states, raising the bank failure toll this year to 157.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) shut down the six banks with a total of $1.23 billion in assets, Bloomberg reported on Saturday.

The United Americas Bank, Appalachian Community Bank and Chestatee State Bank in Georgia, the First Southern Bank in Arkansas, Community National Bank in Minnesota, and Florida’s Bank of Miami have been seized in the latest closures.

Florida has been hit the hardest by bank failures among other states, losing 29 lenders this year.

The FDIC says that the total assets of this year’s failures would likely be lower even though the number of closures has exceeded that of last year.

The closures have taken place against the backdrop of a deepening financial crisis in the United States and the lenders’ overflow of real estate loans.

Washington Mutual, which had $307 billion in assets when it was seized in September 2008, remains the largest bank to fail during the financial crisis.

Experts believe that more than 500 banks may fail before the economic crisis comes to a close.

The FDIC released its latest quarterly report on the state of the banking industry in November. The corporation says it expects bank closures to peak this year after 140 closures in 2009.

Hotel suspends Muslim staff for Ehud Barak’s Visit to Washington

JNN 15 Dec 2010 : Muslim employees in a hotel in Washington complain of discrimination as they were removed from the premises during Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak’s stay, a group representing them says.

A protest letter was handed over to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel’s management on Wednesday by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) of the alleged discrimination towards their Muslim brethren, calling for an investigation.

Barak visited Washington on Dec. 10 and 11 and met with Vice President Joe Biden, Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, among others, over the Israeli-Palestinian talks and the (illegal) settlement issue.

One supervisor at the hotel reportedly told a Muslim worker that the Israeli delegation “don’t want no (sic) face-to-face with Muslims.”

The hotel’s general manager said she told some employees not to come in after the State Department had found “irregularities” in routine background checks on them before the Israeli visit, Washington Post reported.

But the State Department spokesman Philip Crowley in defense said that the diplomatic security did not bar any person from the hotel. It failed to say that the Muslim employees were barred from floors where Barak was staying, as the complainers have alleged.

He only said that this was a “routine” check and added that there is “a lot of disinformation” surrounding the complaint from the employees, AFP reported.

“We do routine law enforcement background checks on all individuals who may have access to or working in the vicinity of the delegation or official that we’re protecting,” Crowley said.

“Where we have concerns based on these criminal record checks we may request that the hotel limits their staff access to the delegation,” he said.

The CAIR said it is awaiting a statement from the hotel before determining whether to file a complaint.

US budget deficit climbs to $150 bn

JNN 14 Dec 2010 : The US Treasury Department has announced that the country’s federal budget deficit has climbed for the 26th consecutive month in November, reaching above $150 billion.

The $150.39 billion deficit is 25 percent more than the figure in November 2009, the department announced on Friday.

The development comes as analysts’ average forecast for the shortfall was $134 billion, while many economists believed the figure would decline gradually in coming years, AFP reported.

The report comes as the US continues to grapple with its worsening economic recession debt crisis. Experts believe the gap will deepen if Congress passes a tax cut plan that is estimated to cost $855 billion for Washington over the next two years.

US President Barack Obama and the Republicans have reached a tax-cut deal that will extend tax cuts for the rich.

Last week, Senate Republicans rejected Obama’s initial proposal for a budget bill that would only extend the tax cuts to the middle class.

Reports say that Democrats in the US House of Representatives have agreed to reject the tax-cut extension package during a private meeting held in Washington because it would also extend Bush-era tax breaks for America’s wealthiest.

Obama predicts that Congress will approve the tax-cutting plan, but it will undergo some changes by the Democrats.

Value of US homes continues to fall

JNN 12 Dec 2010 : The value of homes in the US is poised to drop as much as 1.7 trillion dollars or seven percent of their total value by the end of the year.

The home market will be worth USD 22.7 trillion by the end of this year.

“Despite a strong start to 2010, by the end of the year homes lost more of their value in 2010 than they did in 2009,” said Stan Humphries, Zillow real estate data firm’s chief economist.

According to the firm, losses come in more than 60 percent higher than last year’s. Since the peak in 2006, US homes have lost a massive 9 trillion dollars in value through the end of 2009. This figure amounts to more than 60 percent of the US annual economic output.

The firm has blamed accelerated foreclosures and negative equity for real estate value deprecation in America. Experts still forecast a declining trend through next year.

Homeowners are now demanding lower property taxes worth billions at a time when municipalities are being forced to cut services, Bloomberg reported.

“The full weight of the decline in housing values has yet to hit the budgets of many cities and property tax revenues will likely decline further in 2011 and 2012,” a National League of Cities report stated in October.

In the previous year, homeowners saw equity values fall by USD 1 trillion versus 2008. Economists say home values will not see a true recovery in the next three to five years.

Protests over US-S Korea trade deal

JNN 09 Dec 2010 : Thousands of South Korean farmers have protested against a free trade deal with the United States, demanding that the government scrap the agreement.

Some 2,000 farmers wearing red headbands staged a rally against Seoul and Washington’s Free Trade Agreement on Wednesday.

The protestors burned a rice sack and chanted anti-US slogans at the rally in Seoul.

South Korean farmers have expressed fear that the deal would harm agricultural producers as well as cattle raisers in the country.

The angry protestors called on the South Korean government to abolish the deal and send surplus rice to North Korea to help increase the price of rice.

“We have suffered from the low price of rice since last summer. The government should solve the problem and abolish the FTA (Free Trade Agreement) they agreed with this time (with the US),” Reuters quoted Lim Bong-jae, a protest leader, as saying.

Following a three-year impasse, Seoul and Washington reached a tentative free-trade agreement early in December.

If ratified by US Congress and the South Korean Parliament, the agreement would eliminate tariffs on over 95 percent of industrial and consumer goods within five years.

‘Russia claims its power , It disrupts US-Japan war games’

JNN 09 Dec 2010 : Russian jet fighters flying over the Sea of Japan have reportedly forced the US and Japanese military to halt their ongoing joint war games in the region.

According to Japanese officials, the incident took place on Monday when the US and Japanese fighter jets staged dogfight drills over the Sea of Japan.

“It is a fact that as part of the continuing Japan-US joint exercises, there was training taking place in the Sea of Japan on the sixth of this month,” Japanese government spokesman Yoshito Sengoku was quoted as saying by state-run BBC.

Russian authorities confirmed that the jets were flying above the Sea near the drills site.

“The aircraft carried out a planned flight in an area of the Russian Pacific Fleet’s regular activity,” a Russian military spokesman, Roman Markov, said.

“Our pilots did not violate any rules of international airspace.”

Moscow and Tokyo have recently locked horns over a disputed island chain they both claim.

The archipelago of some 56 islands, which are home to about 19,000 people, has been controlled by Moscow since it was seized by Soviet troops in 1945.

The incident comes as the top US and South Korean military officials have announced plans to hold more joint military exercises.

US Admiral Mike Mullen and South Korea’s General Han Min-koo held talks on the Korean peninsula in Seoul on Wednesday.

Both military officials described North Korea’s recent attack on Yeonpyeong Island as deliberate and illegal. During the meeting, Mullen gave reassurances of Washington’s commitment to defend South Korea.

Tensions are high on the Korean peninsula after last month’s deadly clash between South and North Korean forces along the Koreas’ disputed sea borders.

The fighting left four South Koreans dead with each side blaming the other for initiating the fighting.

North Korea has warned that the war games could bring the Koreas closer to the brink of war.

Pyongyang accuses US President Barack Obama of plotting with regional allies to topple the country’s government, insisting that its nuclear program is a deterrent against US forces in the region.

'Zionists control US foreign policy'

JNN 06 Dec 2010 : Renowned American author and veteran journalist Helen Thomas says the “Zionists” are in full control of the US foreign policy and its other institutions.

Thomas, a former White House journalist, said Israel can never be criticized in the US because Zionists are in control of the American foreign policy as well as its main institutions.

“I can call a president of the US anything in the book, but I can’t touch Israel, which has Jewish-only roads in the West Bank,” Thomas said.

The 90-year-old national columnist says the White House, Congress, Wall Street and Hollywood are all owned by the Zionists.

“Congress, the White House, Hollywood, and Wall Street are owned by the Zionists. No question, in my opinion,” she said.

Thomas also said that she stands by the comments she made about Israel earlier this year, which was condemned by the local Jewish community.

Thomas had said that Israelis should get out of Palestine and return to their homes in Europe and the US.

In an interview, Thomas said that criticizing Israel was the reason she was forced to resign from Hearst Newspapers and was ostracized in Washington.

The longtime White House correspondent, who grew up in Detroit as the daughter of Lebanese immigrants, was in Dearborn for a workshop on anti-Arab bias.

Jewish groups have called Thomas’ earlier remarks unfair and bigoted. They have also slammed Thursday’s remarks.

Should have taken some serious steps , while they would not have been trying it to publicizing it more by giving it a full protocol even by commenting and calling the concerned persons , so it should be in the Headlines of that country , so who dont know should even know , about the biggest failure of the US Govt Machinery , as was in the case of 9/11 , where about 5 planes at the same time broke the rules , routes and ditched the best equipped Intelligence Network of the world and succeeded in hitting at there proposed targets. But as now the World is quite aware of the facts and figures , and the tactics they use to hood wink the whole of the world.

Another fact to be noted is that there is no revelations about the Best Ally of US i.e Israel , as the same was the case with the 9/11 drama, where thousand of American citizen died , but None of the Zionist Clan Jew  Died.

Israel, as opposed to others in the Middle East, has benefited from the alleged US documents, released by whistle blower website WikiLeaks, Turkey says.

“It seems to us that the country which … is not mentioned much, especially in the Middle East, or which this development seems to favor is Israel,” AFP quoted Turkey’s Interior Minister Besir Atalay as saying on Thursday.

The website has released thousands of reported United States diplomatic cables, leveling insult against some world statesmen, including Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“This is how we see it in a way when we look in the context of who is benefitting and who is being harmed,” Atalay said.

The releases have said that the respected Turkish leader lacks “vision” and “analytic depth” and reads “minimally.”

The premier has said that the credibility of the website itself is “questionable,” DPA reported.

English-language Turkish newspaper Today’s Zaman has said that the documents, which have been reported by US and European news outlets, provided “often unflattering assessments” of foreign leaders.

Voicing doubt over the documents, Erdogan said, “That’s why we’re waiting to see what comes from WikiLeaks. Then we can evaluate it and give an opinion.”

“One should analyze why this happened, who did it and why, who is benefitting and who is being harmed,” said Atalay, who has ordered an investigation into the expositions.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has also expressed doubt about the recently released documents, obtained and published by the WikiLeaks website, saying the US administration “released” the material intentionally.

“The material was not leaked, but rather released in an organized way,” he said in reply to a question by a Press TV correspondent on Monday.

“The countries in the region are like friends and brothers, and these malicious acts will not affect their relations,” the Iranian president added

The alleged disclosure of classified documents on Iran by the whistleblower site of WikiLeaks indicates that the US is afraid of Tehran’s power and might and is seriously seeking to sow discord between Tehran and Muslim states, a senior Pakistani politician said.

“The reports by the WikiLeaks fully display that the US is fearful of Iran,” Former chief of Pakistan’s Jamaat-e-Islami and Head of the country’s Majlis-e-Amal Qazi Hussain Ahmad said on Saturday.

Also a former Pakistani army commander said on Tuesday that the disclosure of classified documents by the whistleblower site of WikiLeaks is a US plot to create rift among friendly and neighboring states.

“The US has a hand in this plot, and these reports (posted by the WikiLeaks website) are part of the US psychological warfare,” former Chief of the Staff of the Pakistani Army General Mirza Aslam Beg said.
