Pakistan joins war against Houthis in Yemen: Report

khan20100127155530390Pakistan has reportedly sent an army combat unit to Yemen to join the war against the Shia fighters in the country’s north.

An informed source with the Pakistani daily Jang has said that a 300-strong unit of Special Forces has been deployed in Yemen.

US media reports say the US military and intelligence agencies are involved in joint operations with Yemeni troops.

Yemen launched a military offensive against the Houthi fighters in the northern Sa’ada Province last August. Saudi Arabia joined forces with the Yemeni government in November.

Sana’a accuses the Shia fighters of violating terms of a ceasefire in 2009 by taking foreign visitors hostage.

The Houthis accuse the Yemeni government of violating their civil rights and marginalizing them politically, economically, and religiously.

The Shia fighters say the offensives launched against the northern regions mostly target residential areas and result in civilian casualties.

Islamabad’s controversial decision is expected to cause public outrage in a country, which is similarly targeted by indiscriminate missile attacks.

The Pakistani public holds regular demonstrations to condemn Washington’s drone attacks on remote tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.

The US claims that the attacks are aimed at eliminating militant positions. However, they usually result in civilian casualties.

Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei: Islamic Revolution of Iran will not budge to enemy

shiite_khameneiIslamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei in a meeting with thousands of people from northern Mazandaran province Tuesday said there are many lessons in historical events that the nation could take in its future path, adding that different plots of enemy were futile during the past due to the faith and vigilance of people.Ayatollah Khamenei said some nations failed in their national aspirations because they were unprepared for facing with the challenges ahead and therefore their history could teach us to be ready for the threats ahead.

Ayatollah Khamenei then noted that in the past thirty years, the opponents of the Islamic System have made two major mistakes; they considered themselves superior to people and have relied on the enemies of the Iranian nation. Ayatollah Khamenei elaborated that the superior mood had caused the opponents to brand any legal action or choice of people as populist. The IR Leader added that the opponents of the System were seriously wrong in their reliance on enemies.
The Leader said that the US plots in the past thirty years were evidently futile, adding that a clear proof to the argument was that the Islamic Republic of Iran was many times more powerful than the early revolutionary period and keeps its path more robustly.Ayatollah Khamenei expressed wonder that the enemies fail to take lesson from their past records and continue to push their plots against the Iranian nation.

“American authorities say they have approved a 45 million dollar budget to defeat the Islamic Republic through the Internet. This is the height of frustration of enemy because they have already spent many 45 million dollar sums in their fight against the Islamic System through diplomacy, sanctions, dispatching of spies, recruitment of henchmen and other methods, all futile,” the IR Leader said.

The Leader of Islamic Revolution referred to enemies’ inability to comprehend the reality of 1979 Revolution and power of the masses as the will of God and said the enemies of Iranian nation had long planned to incite riots in Tehran, but their efforts only made people become more determined in defending the Islamic Republic.

Ayatollah Khamenei asserted that recent events caused people to feel more obliged to defend the Islamic Republic.

The Leader of Islamic Revolution said some of the enemy plots were designed to make the Islamic Republic to budge, adding however that the Islamic administration will not budge to enemy and the late Imam Khomeini did too.

Ayatollah Khamenei said the nation has stood firm in demanding their rights and added that Iranians want to be a free, independent, and developing nation.

Ayatollah Khamenei said according to Islamic teachings, if the followers of truth are sincere they would overcome any obstacles and what the people have learned since the revolution has proven this.

Active participation in the scene was what the Leader of Islamic Revolution noted as the crucial duty of the people and officials especially the younger generation and those influential in the society.

The Leader of Islamic revolution added that everyone ought to feel responsible in defending the Islamic Republic of Iran and the December 30 rallies were the manifestation of this sense of responsibility. He added that people will show their liveliness in the forthcoming February 11 rallies.

“The heads of three powers in the country should think of serving the nation with prudence as their solemn duty and should not let anything deter them in their task,” The Leader of Islamic Revolution said and added that the country’s forward movement shouldn’t be obstructed.

Ayatollah Khamenei also spoke of numerous evidences that show the hand of God is behind the nation. He expressed hope that with the help of God and Imam Mahdi’s praying the nation will achieve its lofty goals

Yom-e-Hussain celebrated with Religious Zeal

youm-e-hussain-as1-300x225Thousands of students, teachers and employees of the Karachi University (KU) observed Yum-e-Imam Hussain (AS) on Thursday at the varsity campus with religious zeal and fervor to pay tribute to the grand sacrifices of Imam Hussain (AS), his progeny and followers for Islam and humanity. Hundreds of Rangers personnel were deputed in and around the KU and the programme venue to handle any untoward situation. “Yom-e-Hussain” is an annual convention of the University of Karachi in which renowned Naat Khuan, Noha Khwan and eminent scholars and speakers from all over Pakistan actively participate. Speaking in the sacred gathering, Maulana Agha Syed Jawad Naqvi appreciated the efforts made by the KU administration, students and members of Imamia Students Organization (ISO) to organize such a sacred and blissful gathering. He regarded Karbala an ocean with immense depth. “There is a lot to learn from Karbala, Imam Hussain (AS) and the sacrifices he and his family made to save Islam. We should not move with Hussain history, instead the need is to move with him in reality, revolution and change. Each of us should act as Hussain because when we follow Hussain in his method, thought and spirit we can revive the soul of Karbala. It should be remembered that our current social and moral problems emerged out of our negligence; we should not let any more Yazeeds to spring up in Muslim nations. Don’t forget that only those nations are able to make themselves an icon of solidarity which has accepted the message of Karbala,” he added.

KU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui said, “We should convey the message of Imam Hussain (AS) to the humanity that peace lies with truth and truth is confirmed with one who sacrifices and sacrifice comes with full trust in God and divine justice. Peace is not possible and uncertainty cannot be dispelled unless all people of the world, individually and collectively, follow the path of Karbala, which leads to the truth and show of magnanimous moral courage for immorality.”

Maulana Abbas Waziri said that Hussain was a personality who lived with the message of Allah and sought inspirations from the message for all aspects of his personality. It is impossible to confine Hussain and Karbala to a certain time or place or a group of people, he said.

Prof Dr Ehsan ul Haq, Department of Arabic, said that we should look for commonalities among Muslims, the only way through which we can fight against negative powers. Prof Zahid Ali Zahidi, Maulana Atta-ur-Rehman, and other speakers said that whoever is with the Karbala of Imam Hussain cannot pledge allegiance to an oppressor, nor can he stand along with him. The incident of Karbala is the most tragic incident of Human history but there is a lot to learn from this tragedy.  At this holy event, special security measures were taken by Security Advisor, Prof Dr Khalid Iraqi. ISO scouts were also called to take care of the discipline in the event. Stalls from various political parties including PSA, APMSO, PSF and ISO were also placed at the varsity. Sabeel-e-Imam Hussain was placed as a reminder to the impending thirst which Imam Hussain (A.S) and his family had to face.

Yemen’s Huthis Announce Pull-Out from Saudi Land

shia_abdullmaliik

yaman 5The leader of Yemeni Shia Houthis Abdul Malak al-Houthi announced on Monday the withdrawal of Zaidi fighters from positions they had occupied inside Saudi Arabia since fighting broke out on the border in November.
“We announce our full withdrawal from all Saudi territory,” al-Huthi said in an audio message, describing the move as an “initiative.” He warned, however, that the Houthis would launch an “open war” if the Saudi forces attack them.

Saudi Arabia on January 12 announced that the Houthis were ousted from their last foothold within the kingdom, but the Houthis swiftly denied the report and said they were still in control of the border village of Al-Jabiri.
“The initiative comes because we are keen on stopping the bloodshed and bring to an end the aggression against civilians” in villages in north Yemen, Houthi said. “This is to present a real chance for peace… in the interest of the two peoples that are neighbors,” he said.

“If the Saudi regime maintains its aggression after this initiative, it would be showing that its intention is not to defend its territory, but to invade our areas” in north Yemen, Houthi said. “This would give us the right to open many fronts and launch an open war.”
Houthi reiterated that the reason behind the fighting with Saudi Arabia was its “regime’s decision to open its land and military bases to the Yemeni army to use in aggression against us.” It was also because of “the Saudi air force’s participation in striking” areas of north Yemen, he added

Saudis continue raids after truce offer

saudiaShia Houthi fighters in Yemen say Saudi air raids continue to strike northern areas of the country even after their leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi called for a ceasefire with Riyadh. In a statement released by al-Houthi’s office, the fighters said Saudi warplanes carried out attacks on al-Maran region in north of the country.Several other civilians were wounded in the attacks. The air raids were launched against the fighters after they withdrew from at least 46 positions along the Saudi-Yemeni border. According to the statement, the pull-back by the fighters came as a gesture of goodwill to end the three-month clashes in the region. Saudi Arabia joined the Yemeni government’s campaign against the Houthi fighters in November 2009. In a message posted on the internet on Monday, al-Houthi offered a truce to Saudi Arabia to avoid further civilian casualties. He however threatened to wage an “open war” should Riyadh continue attacks on northern Yemen.

Iranian Shia Buses transporting pilgrims attacked in Baqdad

busesGunmen in a speeding car opened fire on Wednesday in the Iraqi capital at two buses carrying Iranian pilgrims, killing an Iranian woman and an Iraqi driver, the Baghdad security command said.
Wounded were transported to Al Hakim Hospital in Al Sheala region for treatment, the source added. Although an Iranian Authority said wounded will transport to Iran if needed.
The attack on a main road in Al Adel District, northwestern Baghdad Baghdad also wounded five Iranian pilgrims, according to a report. Pilgrims were traveling from holy city of Najaf to holy city of Kazemayn.
The attack came after two bloody days in Baghdad in which more than 50 people were killed by suicide car bombs targeting main hotels and an interior ministry office.
The assaults broke a seven-week lull in major attacks on the capital as Iraq heads into a pivotal general election on March 7 that could set it more firmly on the path to stability or potentially widen its sectarian and ethnic divisions.
The Imam Moussa al-Kazim (AS)shrine, an important Shi’ite Muslim site, lies in the neighborhood where Wednesday’s attack occurred.
The area was cordoned off after the attack, while police and Iraqi soldiers searched for the perpetrators.

The Term "Shia" in Quran and Hadith

The word “Shia” means “followers; members of party”. As such, the term “Shia” alone has no negative or positive meaning unless we specify the leader of the party. If one is a Shia (follower) of the most righteous servants, then there is nothing wrong with being Shia, specially if the leader of such party has been assigned by Allah. On the other hand, if one becomes the Shia a tyrant or a wrong-doer, he shall meet with the fate of his leader. In fact, Quran indicates that on the day of Judgment people will come in groups, and each group has its leader in front of it. Allah, to whom belong Might and Majesty, said:

One day We shall call every group of people by their respective Imams. (Quran 17:71)

In the day of judgment, the destiny of the “followers” of each group highly depends on the destiny of his Imam (provided that they really followed that Imam). Allah mentioned in Quran that there are two types of Imams. Some Imams are those who invite people to Hell fire. They are tyrannical leaders of each era (like Pharaoh, etc.):

And We made them (but) Imams inviting to the Fire; and on the Day of Judgment no help shall they find. In this world We continued to curse them; and on the Day of Judgment they will be among the hateful. (Quran 28:41-42).

Certainly, being the members of the parties of such Satanic Imams has been severely denounced in Quran, and the followers of such parties will meet the fate of their leaders. However, Quran also reminds that there are Imams who are appointed by Allah as Guides for the mankind:

“And We ASSIGNED from among them some Imams who GUIDE by Our authority since they were patient and believed firmly in Our Signs.” (Quran 32:24)

Certainly, the true followers (Shia) of these Imams will be the real prosperous on the day of resurrection. Thus being a Shia does not mean anything, unless we know the Shia of whom. Allah mentioned in Quran that Some of His righteous servants were Shia of His other righteous servants. An example was Prophet Abraham who was mentioned in Quran specifically as the Shia of Noah:

“And most surely Abraham was among the Shia of him (i.e., Noah)” (Quran 37:83)

(Notice that the word “Shia” is explicitly used, letter by letter, in the above verse as well as the following verse.) In another verse, Quran talks about the Shia of Moses versus the enemies of Moses:

“And he (Moses) went into the city at a time when people (of the city) were not watching, so he found therein two men fighting, one being of his Shia and the other being his enemy, and the one who was of his Shia cried out to him for help against the one who was of his enemy” (Quran 28:15)

In the above verse of Quran, one is named the Shia of Moses (AS) and the other one is named the enemy of Moses, and the people at that time were either the Shia or the enemy of Moses (AS). Thus Shia is an official word used by Allah in His Quran for His high rank prophets as well as their followers. Do you want to say Prophet Abraham was sectarian? How about Prophet Noah and Prophet Moses?

If somebody calls himself a Shia, it is not due to any sectarianism, nor any innovation. It is because Quran has used the phrase for some of His best servants. The above verses that I mentioned in support of Shia, has used this term singular form (i.e., one group of followers). This means that it has special meaning, such as: THE Shia of Noah (AS), THE Shia of Moses (AS). Also in the History of Islam, Shia has been specially used for the “followers of Ali”. The first individual who used this term was the Messenger of Allah himself:

The Messenger of Allah said to Ali: “Glad tiding O Ali! Verily you and your companions and your Shia (followers) will be in Paradise.”

Sunni references:

  1. Fadha’il al-Sahaba, by Ahmad Ibn Hanbal, v2, p655
  2. Hilyatul Awliyaa, by Abu Nu’aym, v4, p329
  3. Tarikh, by al-Khateeb al-Baghdadi, v12, p289
  4. al-Awsat, by al-Tabarani
  5. Majma’ al-Zawa’id, by al-Haythami, v10, pp 21-22
  6. al-Darqunti, who said this tradition has been transmitted via numerous authorities.
  7. al-Sawa’iq al-Muhriqah, by Ibn Hajar Haythami , Ch. 11, section 1, p247

Thus the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HF) used to say the phrase of “Shia of Ali”. This phrase is not something invented later! Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HF) said that the TRUE followers of imam Ali will go to Paradise, and this is a great felicity. Also Jabir Ibn Abdillah al-Ansari narrated that:

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HF) said: “The Shia of Ali are the real victorious in the day of resurrection/rising”

Sunni references:

  • al-Manaqib Ahmad, as mentioned in:
  • Yanabi al-Mawaddah, by al-Qundoozi al-Hanafi, p62
  • Tafsir al-Durr al-Manthoor, by al-Hafidh Jalaluddin al-Suyuti, who quotes the tradition as follows: “We were with the Holy Prophet when Ali came towards us. The Holy Prophet said: He and his Shia will aquire salvation on the day of judgment.”

The “day of rising” may also refer to the day of rising of al-Mahdi (AS). But in more general term, it means the day of judgment. Also it is narrated that:

The Messenger of Allah said: “O Ali! On the Day of Judgment I shall resort to Allah and you will resort to me and your children will resort to you and the Shia will resort to them. Then you will see where they carry us. (i.e. to Paradise)”

Sunni reference: Rabi al-Abrar, by al-Zamakhshari

Furthermore, it is narrated that:

The Messenger of Allah said: “O Ali! (On the day of Judgment) you and your Shia will come toward Allah well-pleased and well-pleasing, and there will come to Him your enemies angry and stiff-necked (i.e., their head forced up).

Sunni references:

  • al-Tabarani, on the authority of Imam Ali
  • al-Sawa’iq al-Muhriqah, by Ibn Hajar al-Haythami, Ch. 11, section 1, p236

A more complete version of the tradition which has also been reported by the Sunnis, is as follows:

Ibn Abbas (RA) narrated: When the verse “Those who believe and do righteous deeds are the best of the creation (Quran 98:7)” was revealed, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HF) said to Ali: “They are you and your Shia.” He continued: “O Ali! (On the day of Judgment) you and your Shia will come toward Allah well-pleased and well-pleasing, and your enemies will come angry with their head forced up. Ali said: “Who are my enemies?” The Prophet (PBUH&HF) replied: “He who disassociates himself from you and curses you. And glad tiding to those who reach first under the shadow of al-‘Arsh on the day of resurrection.” Ali asked: “Who are they, O the Messenger of Allah?” He replied: “Your Shia, O Ali, and those who love you.”

Sunni references:

  • al-Hafidh Jamaluddin al-Dharandi, on the authority of Ibn Abbas
  • al-Sawa’iq al-Muhriqah, by Ibn Hajar, Ch. 11, section 1, pp 246-247

Then Ibn Hajar provides a bizarre commentary for the first tradition, saying:

The Shia of Ali are the Ahlussunnah since they are those who love Ahlul-Bayt as Allah and His Prophet ordered. But others (i.e., other than Sunnis) are the enemies of Ahlul-Bayt in reality for the love outside the boundary of law is the great enmity, and that was the reason for their fate. Also, the enemies of Ahlul-Bayt were al-Khawarij and their alike from Syria, not Muawiyah and other companions because they were Muteawweloon, and for them is a good reward, and for Ali and his Shia is a good reward!

Sunni reference:

  • al-Sawa’iq al-Muhriqah, by Ibn Hajar, Ch. 11, section 1, p236

And this is how Sunni scholars cope with the prophetic traditions in favor of “Shia of Ali”! They say that they are the real Shia!

Let us look at one more tradition in this regard:

The Messenger of Allah said to Ali: “The first four individuals who will enter the Paradise are me, you, al-Hasan, and al-Husain, and our progeny will be behind us, and our wives will be behind our progeny, and our Shia will be on our right side and in our company.”

Sunni references:

  • al-Manaqib, by Ahmad
  • al-Tabarani, as quoted in:
  • al-Sawa’iq al-Muhriqah, by Ibn Hajar Haythami , Ch. 11, section 1, p246

From the above pieces of evidence, the word “Shia” is used by Allah in Quran for His prophets as well as their followers. Further, His blessed Prophet, Muhammad (PBUH&HF) has repeatedly used this word for the followers of Imam Ali (AS). The word Shia is used here in its special meaning, and moreover, it is not in plural form (Parties), rather the above verses and traditions are referring to a special party, i.e., one single party. If Shia meant sectarian, neither Allah would use it for His high rank prophets nor Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HF) would have praised them.

However there are some verses in Quran which uses the plural form of Shia that is “Shi-ya’a” which means “Parties/groups”. This is a general meaning of this term, and not the special meaning in singular form which has been given in previous examples. Of course, only one single party is accepted by Allah and the rest are severely denounced because they have separated from that unique party. So it is clear why Allah denounced “Groups/Parties/sects” (plural form) who separated from that unique group in some verses of Quran. There can’t be two righteous groups (with conflicting ideas) at the same time, because between the two leaders one is surely better and more qualified, and thus the claims and the motives of the other leader goes under question.

However I did not locate the exact term of “Ahlussunnah wal-Jama’ah”, nor did I find “al-Wahhabiyyah”, “al-Salafiyyah” anywhere in the Holy Quran or the traditions of the Prophet. I agree that we should follow the Sunnah of Prophet, but I would like to discover the origin of the exact term here. We Shia are proud to follow the Sunnah of Prophet. However, the question is that which Sunnah is genuine and which one is not. The word “Sunnah” by itself does not serve the purpose of knowledge. All Muslims irrespective to their persuasions claim that they follow the Sunnah of Prophet (PBUH&HF). Please refer to the article titled “Quran and Ahlul-Bayt” for a detailed discussion in this regard.

It should be emphasized that the Messenger of Allah never wished to divide Muslims into groups. Prophet ORDERED all people to follow Imam Ali (AS) as his agent during his life time, and as his Caliph after him. Prophet wished everybody does that. But unfortunately those who heeded him were few and were known as “Shia of Ali” who were subject to all sort of discrimination and prosecution, and suffered from day one of the demise of the Mercy to Mankind, Muhammad (PBUH&HF). If every one (or say the majority Muslims) had obeyed what prophet wished, then there wouldn’t exist any group or school within Islam. Allah said in Quran:

“Hold fast to the Rope of Allah, all of you together and do not separate” (Quran 3:103)”

The Rope of Allah which we should not separate from, are the Ahlul-Bayt. In fact, some Sunni scholars narrated from Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (AS) saying:

“We are the Rope of Allah about whom Allah has said: ‘Hold fast to the Rope of Allah, all of you together and do not diverge (3:103)'”

Sunni references:

  • al-Sawa’iq al-Muhriqah, by Ibn Hajar Haythami , Ch. 11, section 1, p233
  • Tafsir al-Kabir, by al-Tha’labi, under commentary of verse 3:103

Thus, if Allah denounces the sectarianism, He denounces those who separated from His Rope, and not those who hold fast to it! Also some said the Rope of Allah is Quran. This is also true. But by looking at the following tradition narrated by Umm Salama who said:

The Messenger of Allah said: “Ali is with Quran, and Quran is with Ali. They shall not separate from each other till they both return to me by the Pool (of Paradise).”

Sunni references:

  • al-Mustadrak, by al-Hakim, v3, p124 on the authority of Umm Salama
  • al-Sawa’iq al-Muhriqah, by Ibn Hajar, Ch. 9, section 2, pp 191,194
  • al-Awsat, by al-Tabarani; also in al-Saghir
  • Tarikh al-Khulafa, by Jalaluddin al-Suyuti, p173

Then we can conclude that Imam Ali is * the Quran verbatim *. That is, Imam Ali is the Strong Rope of Allah also, because they (Quran and Ali) are non-separable. In fact, there are a huge number of traditions in authentic Sunni sources where Prophet said Quran and Ahlul-Bayt are inseparable and if Muslims want to remain in the right path, they should stick to BOTH of them. (Please refer to the article titled: Quran and Ahlul-Bayt). Therefore, one can conclude that those who separated from Ahlul-Bayt are the sectarian who divided into sects and were denounced by Allah and His prophet due to their divergence.

In fact, the opinion of majority is not a good criteria to distinguish the false from the truth. If you look at the Quran, you will see that Quran severely denounces the majority of by frequently saying that “the majority do not understand”, “the majority do not use their logic”, “the majority follow their whims”…

In another verse, Allah said:

“You are the best nation (Ummah) that has been raised up for the (benefit of) people. You enjoin the good and forbid the evil…” (Quran 3:110).

The best nation is also the Ahlul-Bayt. Let us remember that according to Quran, “nation” does not mean the whole people. This is even clear from the above verse that such Ummah (nation) are raised FOR benefiting the people. Thus Ummah can be only a subset of people and not the whole people. In fact one person can be a nation. Sometimes the act of a single person is worthier than the deeds of the whole nation. This was the case for Prophet Muhammad, Imam Ali, as well as the case for Prophet Abraham, peace be upon them all. Quran states that Abraham (AS) was a nation (Ummah), meaning that his deeds was more valuable than all other people. Allah stated:

“Lo! Abraham was a nation (Ummah) who was obedient to Allah, by nature upright, and he was not of the idolaters” (Quran 16:120)

Thus, one single individual can be a nation in the language of Quran. As for the Verse 3:100, it is interesting to note that some Sunni scholars have narrated from Abu Ja’far (Imam Baqir (AS)) that:

Abu Ja’far (AS) said about the verse ‘You are the best nation raised up for the (benefit of) people…(3:110)’: “The Members of the House of the Prophet.”

Sunni references:

  • Ibn Abi Hatam, as mentioned in:
  • al-Durr al-Manthoor, by Jalaluddin al-Suyuti under commentary of verse 3:110 of holy Quran.

Also Allah mentioned in Quran:

“O’ you who believe! Fear Allah and be with the truthful”
(Quran 9:119)

According to some Sunni Commentaries, “the truthful” means Imam Ali (AS):

Sunni reference:

  • Tafsir al-Durr al-Manthoor, by al-Hafidh Jalaluddin al-Suyuti, two reports: one from Ibn Mardawayh by Ibn Abbas and the second from Ibn Asakir by Abi Ja’far (AS).

This means that people should have feared Allah and should not have separated from Imam Ali (AS) after the demise of Prophet (PBUH&HF). This unfortunately did not happen at large, and therefore, unfortunate divisions followed it.

With respect to the world al-Siddeeq — “The Truthful”, there are many Sunni narrations in which the Messenger of Allah said:

The Truthful are three: Hazqeel (who was) the believer of the family of Pharaoh (see Quran 40:28), and Habeeb al-Najjar (who was) the believer of the family of Yaasin (see Quran 36:20), and Ali Ibn Abi Talib who is the most virtuous one among them (see Quran 9:119).”

Sunni references:

  • Abu Nu’aym and Ibn Asakir, on the authority of Abu Layla
  • Ibn al-Najjar, on the authority of Ibn Abbas
  • al-Sawa’iq al-Muhriqah, by Ibn Hajar, Ch. 9, section 2, pp 192-193

In conclusion, we have shown in this article that the term Shia has been used in Quran for the followers of the great servants of Allah, and in the traditions of the Prophet for the followers of Imam Ali (AS). One who follows such divinely appointed Guide is safe from the disputes in the religion and has grasped the Strong Rope of Allah, and has been given the glad tiding of Paradise.

Leader urges big turnout on Revolution’s anniversary

22The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei urges continued huge turnout in rallies on the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, reiterating today that Iran’s enemies will not be able to harm the Revolution and the nation even if they all unite.

Speaking at a gathering of officials from the Islamic Development Organization, ahead of the anniversary celebrations of the 1978 Revolution, Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that the Revolution will resist all plots as long as it relies on people’s faith and support.

The Iranian Leader called on the elite to adopt transparent positions with respect to the enemies and their plots in the country, adding that the presence of millions of Iranians at the celebration of the 31st anniversary of the Islamic Revolution will foil enemies’ plots.

The Leader was referring to the annual celebrations marking the victory of the Islamic Revolution that ended the Iranian monarchy in 1979 and led to the establishment of an Islamic Republic in Iran.

The “ten days of Fajr (dawn),” as it is known in the country, refers to the anniversary of the period of time between the arrival of the late Imam Khomeini to Iran from exile, Feb. 1, 1978, and the day in which the revolution succeeded, 10 days later.

The Leader also referred to the December 27 riots in some Tehran streets, during which protesters damaged public property and clashed with security forces, taking advantage of a nation-wide focus on Ashura mourning ceremonies, marking the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein, the third apostle of the Shia followers of Islam.

Ayatollah Khamenei described the overwhelming response by millions of Iranian demonstrators who took to the streets on December 30 to condemning the desecration of the Ashura ceremonies, as extraordinary and a landmark date in the history of the Revolution.

Islam has answers to Problems facing humanity, Sheikh Zakzakys

shia-shiekh-zakzakyThe leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria delivered a lecture exclusively to the conference participants at Multipurpose Youth Center  Hall Katsina. He spoke on issues which include mission of the Islamic Movement, family and ethics, spiritual growth and Islamic system of governance.
The leader said that the aim of the conference of this nature, which is organised quarterly , is to redirect the thinking of members which is a gradual process. The theme of the conference, as the previous ones, is always on the character building, ethic and spiritual growth. He expressed that character molding and attitudinal change is a gradual process which requires constant practice.
Speaking on the Trustworthy qualities like sincerity, good manner, Truth etc. the leader expressed that these qualities are the real wealth. Wealth is not only about material possessions as many view it, sound health is also wealth. He however explained that the best of wealth one can have is sincerity, trust and upright manner.  These are qualities which cannot be bought in  market places but are obtained through constant practice until they become part of one’s  personality.
He added that one has to have trustworthy qualities as they are one’s essence. The deeds of person shall follow him to next world, while leaving behind material possessions. Therefore anybody who calls to the right path should posses,  as prerequisite, upright manner and in this case members of the Movement should show good example, he expressed.
He lamented that bad habits and abominations are becoming norms nowadays to the extent that they are not seen as bad things. Therefore everyone should avoid them in order to set good examples.
He call on all the participating members to make sure their words do not contradict actions. He added that even though members are already enjoying  people’ s trust that does not mean they should be reluctant. Members are known with good qualities and the enemies are always on the alert to hatch a plot aimed at destroying Members’ good image in Public views.
The leader noted further that however the enemies’ plots may be, the General Public cannot be deceived.
On current situation, Sheikh Zakzaky lamented that people nowadays entrust their lives and wealth in the hands of wrong people instead of trustworthy ones who deserve it. The corrupt leaders who rule over people always view a trustworthy person as a danger that is why whenever they talk of security they mean how to secure their positions.
Another thing is that the enemies are always after destroying morality since they cannot build it, he noted.
On the issue of knowledge Sheikh expressed that there is continuous increase in the number of clerics nowadays, because it is observed that people’s inclinations is now towards religion. This is contrary to what obtained 40 – 50 years back when to become a scholar was not an easy task. He expressed that to be a scholar requires hard work as one  has to know his era and the era the Quran was revealed  before one can correlate and grasp the meanings of verses of the holy Quran.
He further added that seeking knowledge is a continuous process just as one cannot stop eating food because he ate a lot in the past. He added that in learning right channels must be followed. Listening to audio CDs and Cassettes alone does not suffice.
On the issue of Children upbringing he lamented how the youngsters are now subjected to various forms of abuse instead of equipping them with knowledge while the so called leaders don’t even care. He cited the example of Japan when its two cities were destroyed by America and therefore noticed that what remained for them was their children, so they established universities of science and technology purely for the children. Japan is now highly developed in terms of technology.
The leader of the Islamic Movement also spoke on family and ethics, he expressed with dismay on how culture has adulterated some of our values; ignorance has also contributed. The only solutions to issues regarding family problems is living in accordance with the provision of Shari as it specifies  the rights and obligations of both the husband and the wife. Women should be educated  in order to have religious home. He added.
On the mission of the Islamic Movement Sheikh Zakzaky noted that its aim is to revive Islam in our daily lives so that it runs the affairs of Muslims. Taking over government is not the aim, but to revive the teachings of Islam in our lives. Sheikh Zakzaky concluded by expressing that seeking knowledge goes together with practice. He prayed for Allah’s guidance and help in our affairs.
After the lecture, Sheikh Zakzaky had a press conference where he answered questions with regard to activities of the Islamic Movement and general issues.

According to Taj al-Deeni, the July 2006 War proved that Israel is not invincible, and the war’s outcome set an example for the Islamic World. “Youth throughout the Muslim World can confront colonial schemes and global arrogance,” he said.

He added that Hezbollah’s resistance reflects Lebanon’s ability to face the “

The Big Killer of Muslims in Iraq , ‘Chemical Ali’ sentenced to death

Ali Hassan al-Majid, also known as “Chemical Ali”, has been sentenced to death for ordering the gassing of Kurds in the Iraqi village of Halabja, state television has reported. Al-Majid, who was a senior aide to Saddam Hussein, the executed Iraqi leader, was sentenced to be hanged for the 1988 attack, in which 5,000 Kurds are thought to have died.

It may be noted here that earlier Iraqi court has given the sentenced to death for Saddam cousin “Chemical Ali” over his involvement in the killing of thousands of innocent Shia Muslims of Iraq.

Families of some victims cheered in court when the guilty verdict was handed down on Sunday. The Iraqi High Tribunal also sentenced three other Saddam aides, including the former defence minister, to 10 to 15 years in prison for the Halabja attack.

In March 1988, Iraqi jets swooped over the village and sprayed it with a deadly mix of mustard gas and the nerve agents Tabun, Sarin and VX. Three-quarters of the victims in the five-hour assault were women and children. It is thought to have been the deadliest gas attack ever carried out against civilians.

Operation Anfal

Al-Majid, a cousin of Saddam, was nicknamed “Chemical Ali” for overseeing the gassing of Iraqi Kurds during the so-called Operation Anfal campaign, which culminated in 1988. About 182,000 Kurds were estimated to have been killed in gas and bomb attacks during the Anfal operation, while 4,000 villages were destroyed.

The latest sentence comes 10 months after the same court handed down a death sentence to al-Majid for his involvement in the killing and displacement of Shia Muslims in 1999. His execution has been delayed by legal disputes over his conviction.

Al-Majid was captured in August 2003, five months after US-led forces invaded Iraq and ousted Saddam.

Israeli Terrorism Should Not Be Ignored Any Longer: Indian Scholar

It is unfortunate that the international community is keeping mum even as Israel is continuously violating the human rights by killing the innocent people of Palestine, said an Indian religious Shia leader Maulana Syed Kalbe Jawwad on Monday.

On the first anniversary of Israeli attacks on the Gaza strip, Maulana Jawwad, a renowned Shia scholar said that all the peace loving people and countries should take stern action against the Israeli aggression.

Expressing his dismay over the criminal silence of the international community specially the United Nations, Maulana Jawwad said that the Israeli terrorism should not be ignored any longer.

Condemning the Israeli aggression against the Palestinians especially in the Gaza, he said that the aggressors have used and still using all kinds of forces against the innocent people.

He also condemned the United States for its blind support for Israel and its crime against humanity.

Maulana Jawwad, the Friday Prayer Leader at Historical Asafi Mosque of Lucknow, also urged the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Arab League as well as the Indian government to take immediate diplomatic steps to save Palestinian from the on going genocide in Gaza and help restore peace in the region.

He demanded the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Palestinian territories.

“Since 1948, tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians including women and children have been massacred by Israel and this cruelty is being perpetrated in the name of fighting Palestinian terrorism”, he said, adding that the root cause of the conflict in West Asia continues to remain the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands.

The Israeli attack on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip last year claimed lives of more than 1,000 innocent Palestinians, including 322 children and 76 women.

More than 4,560 Palestinians including 1,600 children and 678 women have reportedly been wounded in those inhuman attacks.

Press Conference on Current situation of Karachi

jafariallaince

Jafaria Alliance Pakistan’s leader Allama Abbas Kumaili, alleged that the administration is diverting the direction and retarding the investigation of the Ashura bomb blast, which claims lives of 44 mourners.

While urging the government to hold inquiry into Karachi Ashura blast, has demanded immediate release of innocent Shia youth, Shiite News correspondent reported.

Addressing a press conference here, former Senator Allama Abbas Kumaili said the question is why the Bomb Disposal Squad gave clearance of the procession’s route and why no action has been taken against the responsible persons?
He said that when the footages of 72 hours had been issued so it must be cleared that where the bomb was planted and who had fixed it and why the security enforcement agencies were unaware of it and why they gave the clearance.

He accused the law enforcers responsible of the incident and demanded the removal of the officials who showed their criminal negligence and the higher level inquiry of the mayhem.

Allama Abbas Kumaili said that the management was changing the path and retarding the inquiry of the Ashura incident adding that they have reservations  because government is not serious into the matter. 'Killed Iranian lecturer not politically involved'

The Iranian nuclear physics scientist who has been killed in a remote-controlled bomb attack in Tehran had not been involved in any political activities, an academic figure says.

“Professor Massoud Ali-Mohammadi … was a prominent international figure, but had not been involved in any political activities,” Head of the Science Complex of the University of Tehran Ali Moqari told Mehr News Agency on Tuesday.

He added that Ali-Mohammadi was a prominent professor in physics who had written several books.

Ali-Mohammadi, a lecturer at the Tehran University and a staunch supporter of the Islamic Revolution, was killed in booby-trapped motorbike blast in the Iranian capital on Tuesday.

The explosion took place near the professor’s home in Qeytariyeh neighborhood, in northern Tehran.

Moqari underlined that despite police investigations, the University of Tehran would also probe into the incident.

Press TV correspondent quoted security officials as saying that the equipment and system of the bomb used in the attack had been related to a number of foreign intelligence agencies, particularly Israel’s Mossad.

Tehran blast kills nuclear physics scientist

An Iranian nuclear physics scientist has been killed in a remote-controlled bomb attack in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Dr. Massoud Ali-Mohammadi, a lecturer at the Tehran University and a staunch supporter of the Islamic Revolution, was killed in booby-trapped motorbike blast on Tuesday.

The explosion took place near the professor’s home in Qeytariyeh neighborhood, in northern Tehran.

Iran’s police and security bodies are investigating the terrorist case to identify those behind it.

Press TV correspondent Amir Mehdi Kazemi, reporting from the scene of the assassination, quoted security officials as saying that the equipment and system of the bomb used in the attack had been related to a number of foreign intelligence agencies, particularly Israel’s Mossad.

Meanwhile, Tehran’s Prosecutor Abbas Jafari-Dolatabadi confirmed the assassination of the university lecturer on Tuesday morning and said that he taught neutron nuclear physics at the University of Tehran.

“No suspect has been arrested yet,” he told the Iranian Students News Agency.

He added that Ali-Mohammadi was killed when a motorbike parked near his car exploded.

The terrorist attack came as Shahram Amiri, an Iranian nuclear scientist, went missing in the Saudi holy city of Medina while on a pilgrimage visit in June 2009.

In December, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast said Tehran had information that authorities in Riyadh had delivered Amiri to the United States.

He added that Amiri is among eleven Iranian nationals held in detention in US prisons.

It seems the kidnap and assassination of Iranian scientists is on the agenda of the United States

Reports on new mass grave near Karbala

Iraqi officials announced on Monday they will soon begin new excavations based on reports of a new mass grave, near the holy city of Karbala, according to the Associated Press.

Dr. Kamil Ameer Hashim, a spokesman for the Ministry of Human Rights, said that the suspected grave site had not yet been opened and it was unclear how many people might be inside. Officials had decided on the location based on interviews with the families of the dead, he said.

Meanwhile, the remains of more than 70 people, including women, children and the elderly, have been excavated from a different mass grave in Topzawa near Kirkuk, he said. Officials began digging there two months ago but have not yet finished their work.

“No one knows how many victims of former dictator Saddam Hussein’s regime lie in mass graves around Iraq. Hundreds of thousands of Kurds were killed or expelled from Iraq in the late 1980s and then again during the Kurdish uprising following the first Gulf War in 1991. Many political prisoners were also killed and secretly buried,” the agency added.

42 Shiites injured as police break up religious processions in Indian Kashmir

SRINAGAR, India — At least 42 people were injured when police used tear gas and batons to break up religious processions of hundreds of people in the Indian section of Kashmir on Saturday, police said.

Seven police officers were among the injured in the clashes between government forces and mostly Shiite Muslims who gathered in Srinagar, the main city of Indian Kashmir. The marchers were marking the Muslim month of Muharram, a police officer said on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to talk to reporters.

Large public gatherings in Indian-controlled Kashmir have been banned since the eruption of an insurgency in 1989, but hundreds of marchers defied the ban in four separate processions from the central Lal Chowk district of Srinagar after praying in various mosques Saturday.

Scuffles erupted when police and paramilitary forces tried to stop the marchers. Police fired warning shots into the air and used tear gas and batons to disperse the crowd.

Saturday was the eighth day of the month of Muharram in the Islamic lunar calendar. Muharram is especially important for Shiites, who stage processions to mourn the 7th-century death of the prophet Muhammad’s grandson Imam Hussein.

The Himalayan region is split between India and Pakistan, and nearly a dozen rebel groups have been fighting since 1989 for a merger with Pakistan, or for independence from Hindu-majority India. More than 68,000 people, most of them civilians, have been killed in the conflict.

Shia clerics meet home secretary Sindh,

Shia clerics demanded from government to stop illegal arrest of Shiites in Karachi in the wake of Ashura incident and arrest those who were actually responsible for the arson after blast, a delegation of Shia clerics led by President Jaffaria alliance Pakistan (JAP) Allama Abbas Kumaili met with Sindh home secretary Arif Khan on Friday.

Maulana Hussain Masoodi, Shia Action committee leader Mirza Yousuf Hussain, Majlis-e-Wehdat leader Maulana Mukhtar Imami, Salman Mujtaba, Shabar Raza, Ali Ahmar, Sabir Karbalai and other were present on the meeting.

Allama Kumaili deplored that after the incident innocent people of Shia community were arrested by the law enforcement agencies while the actual culprits are still at large, the delegation termed it shameful. They said that it has become known that after blast arson and looting was carried out under a preplanned strategy even there were reports that goods looted from the markets recovered from the Chanti Bazar, Old areas and still present in adjoining areas of the Bolton market.

He said that recovering of the looted goods from the old areas of Karachi were proved that the miscreants involved in the looting and arsons activities.

Saudi warplanes hit Northern Yemen districts again

saudijet

Saudi fighter jets have launched another round of aerial bombardment of Shia Houthi positions in northern parts of Yemen along the border with the oil-rich kingdom.

According to a statement released by the fighters on Thursday, Saudi forces carried out 13 aerial raids on Jebel al-Madood as well as villages in close proximity to the border region in northern Yemen.

The statement added that Saudi forces fired some 1400 rockets against the rugged area.

The conflict in northern Yemen began in 2004 between Sana’a and Houthi fighters. It intensified in August 2009 when the Yemeni army launched Operation Scorched Earth in an attempt to crush the fighters in the northern province of Sa’ada.

Yemen claims the fighters are seeking to revive an imamate that was toppled in 1962.

The Houthis accuse the Yemeni government of violation of their civil rights, political, economic and religious marginalization as well as large-scale corruption.

Houthi fighters say that Riyadh has also been pounding their positions, and that Saudi forces strike Yemeni villages and indiscriminately target civilians. According to the fighters, Saudis use toxic materials, including white phosphorus bombs, against civilians in northern Yemen.

Saudi forces began fighting with Yemeni Shia resistance fighters, known as Huthis, and bombing their positions on November 4 after accusing the fighters of killing Saudi border guards.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees estimates that since 2004, up to 175,000 people have been forced to leave their homes in Sa’ada and take refuge at overcrowded camps set up by the United Nations

Hezbollah Denounces Offense against Ayatullah Sayyed Sistani

hizbullah1

Hezbollah has denounced the statement made by a leading Saudi cleric against the Muslim Shiite sect and Iraqi Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Al-Sistani.

In a Friday sermon in the Saudi capital Riyadh, Mohammad Al-Ureifi launched an attack on Iraqi Shiites, accusing them, among other things, of being “majousiya” [or Magi, a priestly caste in ancient Persia supposed to have occult powers], and of conspiring with the Houthis in Yemen, with Iran’s support, against Saudi Arabia. He went on to call Sayyed Ali Al-Sistani, an “atheist and debauched.”

In its statement, Hezbollah condemned the mentioned speech as “inauspicious,” noting that it sought to undermine the Islamic Shiite sect, its beliefs and history and to insult one of our most prominent religious references, Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Al-Sistani.

“The insults against Sayyed Sistani are unacceptable and cannot be issued from a human being having just some mind or understanding or religion or dignity,” the statement read out.

Hezbollah emphasized that the Islamic Shiite sect is not in need of a testimony concerning its Islam, belonging, history and sacrifices from this cleric and those who resemble him. “Whatever he said is rejected and turns to him,” the statement said.

“Sayyed Sistani is more solemn and sublime than those who can be affected by such unfair campaigns,” Hezbollah said, adding that the mentioned campaigns couldn’t have any effect on his eminence’s person and pioneer role. “Insulting Sayyed Sistani is an offense to all our references, scholars, mujahideen and martyrs and therefore is subject to condemnation.”

Hezbollah concluded its statement by calling on the Saudi authorities to put an end to all those who resemble the mentioned cleric, those who propagate for sedition and “incite Muslims to fight each other” in a way that only serves the Islam and the nation’s enemies, especially if these clerics were official employees in the Saudi religious institutions

The Rule of Supreme Jurisprudent (Velayat- e-Faghih) a source of honour and glory for Iran. Tehran friday prayer leader

kazim

Tehran’s Interim Friday Prayers Leader, Hojjat-ol-Islam Kazem Saddiqi, has said the Iranian nation in the epic rallies and demonstrations on Wednesday, 30 December, showed that it had chosen Islam with foresight and wisdom.

Addressing Friday prayer worshippers and the faithful in Tehran, Hojjat-ol-Islam Kazem Saddiqi pointed to the events on the day of Ashura, Sunday 27 December, and said what happened on that day showed clearly the anti-Islamic nature of the rioters and those who instigated unrest.

In further remarks, Hojjat-ol-Islam Kazem Saddiqii referred to the post-presidential-election unrest in Iran, and said the rioters deliberately insulted the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran , the late Imam Khomeini (may his soul rest in peace), they chanted slogans against the principle of the Rule of Supreme Jurisprudent (Velayat- e-Faghih), thereby contravening the rule of law and Iran’s constitution — They also made sacrilegious and blasphemous insults against Ashura and Imam Hussein (PBUH ), thereby signaling their anti-Islamic nature, and their opposition to Islam.

In further remrks, Tehran’s interim Friday prayers leader said the Iranian people’s Islam is really their identity, their nationality, and the essence of their nature.

Turning to the status of the Rule of Supreme Jurisprudent (Velayat- e-Faghih) within Islam, Hojjat-ol-Islam Kazem Saddiqi said throughout the history of the Islamic Republic, the Rule of Supreme Jurisprudent has been a source of honour and glory for Iran, and the Iranian people do not accept Islam without the concept of the Rule of Supreme Jurisprudent.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Tehran’s interim Friday prayers leader referred to insults by Friday Prayers Leader of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, against Iraq’s most senior religious authority, Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Al-Sistani, and said there is much in common between the insults hurled at Grand ayatollah Sistani, and the insults made to sources of emulation in Iran.

In Iran, Leader says law must be implemented

aghakhamenei

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said Saturday the Iranian nation must avoid taking extrajudicial measures so as not to obstruct the path of justice.

Ayatollah Khamenei warned that at a time when sedition prevails, action becomes more difficult and determining the truth becomes harder.

The Leader went on to describe how the enemies of the first Shia Imam, Ali (PBUH) had sowed the seeds of sedition during the seventh century battle of Seffein.

“In those difficult times and unclear conditions, Ammar ibn Yasir, who was one of Imam Ali’s closest, purest and most reliable companions, shed light on the situation for those who were hesitant.”

“He explained that there was no difference between those who stood against the Prophet of Islam and the enemies of Imam Ali (PBUH), other than the fact that those who opposed Imam Ali (PBUH) claimed to be the guardians of Islam, the Quran and the Prophet.”

Ayatollah Khamenei said since the 1979 Islamic Revolution and throughout the life of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Rouhollah Khomeini, oppressive powers, backward people with links to the global arrogance, and deviant individuals within the country were all members of the same group.

“That is how it is today. What has been the position of the US, British and Israeli media outlets since before the election? Where do anti-religious fronts such as the communists, pro-monarchy groups and other opponents of the revolution and Imam [Khomeini] stand?” Ayatollah Khamenei asked.

“Do they all not fit in the same group of people who oppose the Islamic establishment? It is clear that the main fronts have not changed. This is an important factor.”

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution then praised the Iranian people, particularly the younger generation, for their understanding and religious fervor.

Ayatollah Khamenei said that Iranian youth, who are passionate about their religion, sometimes exercise patience, “as they should”, but when the time comes for action they are ready and on the scene.

“It is natural for the young members of the voluntary Basij force to be angry and hurt about how a small group violated the sanctity of Ashura and [insulted] Imam Hussein (PBUH),” said the Leader. “This insult broke everyone’s heart, but we must all be careful not to fuel the enemy sedition by going to far.”

The Leader made the remarks in reference to the riots on Ashura during which protesters damaged public property and clashed with security forces.

In response to the unrest, millions of Iranians took to the streets on December 30, condemning the desecration of the Ashura mourning ceremonies and expressing their anger toward the foreign-backed plot to provoke unrest in the country.

The Leader laid praise on the move and said no government in the world can call forth such an “enormous, national mobilization” in two days and bring tens of millions of people to the streets.

Ayatollah Khamenei warned that the enemy was drawing up an “intricate” plot for a “dangerous game.”

“In these unclear conditions, we must act with vigilance and open eyes. However, when the conditions require, we must also show firmness. This way we can stop the enemy in its tracks,” the Leader explained.

Ayatollah Khamenei then asked all responsible bodies of the Islamic Republic to precisely implement the articles of the law in a “full and firm” fashion.

The Leader said that “those who have no responsibility or legal duty” must not interfere in that process.

“Some innocent people, who hate these villains, may seriously be hurt. Therefore, everyone must refrain from taking any action on their own. Everything must be done according to the law.”
