Ayatollah Syed Ali Al- Sistani Urges Big Poll Turnout

Iraq’s Grand Ayatollah Syed Ali Husseini al-Sistani called on voters on Wednesday to turn out massively for next month’s general election but did not endorse any particular party.

Syed Al-Sistani’s support is seen as key to boosting turnout for the March 7 parliamentary election. According to the Shiite News Correspondent, “Ayatollah Sistani sees it as critical that all people who care about the future of the country and rebuilding it… participate in the election,” a statement from his office said.

“Turning away from participation, for whatever reason, will give them a chance to achieve their illegitimate goals,” it said, without specifying who Sistani meant by “them”.

The statement went on to say that the reverd Shia cleric Syed Ali al-Sistani did not support any particular party in the election, and called on electors to “vote for the best groups, those who care about the interests of Iraq.”

“Vote for the list that is able to achieve the ambitions of the people, such as stability and improvement, and vote for the honest and efficient candidate who respects the traditions and values of the Iraqi people.”

Ayatullah Khamenei: Iran won’t let arrogant powers ruin world

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, says the Iranian nation will stand up to arrogant powers who are dominating the world.

Addressing a group of visitors from the northwestern city of Tabriz on Wednesday, the Leader said, “Iran will not allow a few countries to ruin the future of the world.”

Ayatollah Khamenei further pointed out that Western countries spread lies about the Iranian nuclear energy program and the state of democracy and human rights in Iran because Tehran is determined to maintain its rights.

Meanwhile, the Leader slammed US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s comments during her recent tour of the Persian Gulf region, saying that “yet again the Americans have sent their agent (Clinton) like a traveler to the Persian Gulf to repeat the same lies about Iran.”

“However, nobody will believe their words anymore, as the United States has never cared about the interests of regional nations,” the Leader said, adding that “quite to the contrary, [Washington] has trampled on the rights of the regional countries.”

Ayatollah Khamenei said that the US has turned the Persian Gulf into an arsenal, has attacked Iraq and Afghanistan and now is interfering in Pakistan.

“All the nations and most of the governments in the region are aware that the Islamic Republic supports peace, brotherhood, and dignity of the regional and all the Islamic countries [in the world],” the Leader underlined.

Ayatollah Khamenei also pointed to the mass rallies marking the 31st anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

“The enemies predicted that the rallies would plunge Iran into a civil war,” the Leader noted. “But the massive turnout of the Iranian nation was tantamount to a punch in the mount of Iran’s enemies.”

Belarus FM Meets President Ahmadinejad

Iranian President, Dr Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, in a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Belarus, Sergei Martinov said in Tehran on Wednesday that America’s domination is fading away, rather like a piece of melting snow.

President Ahmadinejad said America’s policies are failing and facing defeat, one after another, and assured of new political equations in the near future.

President Ahmadinejad termed Iran-Belarus relations as friendly and stable, saying expansion of bilateral cooperation will benefit both nations as well as the wider region, especially given the political and economic conditions in the world today.

The Foreign Minister of Belarus, Sergei Martinov, for his part, described Iran as an important and influential country in the region and called for due efforts to broaden and deepen relations between Tehran and Minsk.

Supreme Leader Thanks Iranian Nation for Impressive Bahman 22 Rallies

Ayatollah Khamenei the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution issued a message praising the Iranian nation for their massive presence in the Bahman 22nd rallies. The following is an excerpt of the message:

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Dear honorable Iranian nation,

I wholeheartedly thank God who manifested His hand of power through your faith, determination, and insight and proved the power and dynamism of the Islamic Republic – which is rooted in the faith and confidence of this ancient nation – to its enemies more than ever before on the 31st anniversary of the Revolution.

Is thirty years of trial and error not enough to awaken the arrogant and bullying powers and prove to them the futility of their efforts to dominate Islamic Iran?

Is the presence of millions of enthusiastic and insightful people in the ceremonies marking the 31st anniversary of the Revolution not enough to awaken the ill-wishers and deceived people inside the country who sometimes hypocritically claim to support the people? Is this not enough to show them the wish and path of the nation which is the path of pure Islam and our magnanimous Imam?

The friends and enemies of the Iranian nation should know that this nation has found its path and will remove all obstacles on its way to reach the peaks of success and prosperity by relying on God and their God-given power. May God bestow His assistance and success on this nation, and I hope this nation will benefit from the prayers of the Imam of the Age (may our souls be sacrificed for him).
