Supreme Leader receives Afghan, Pakistani presidents
The trilateral meeting of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan concluded its work in Tehran on Sunday by issuing a 25-article statement. In the statement covering important issues within the framework of trilateral cooperation, the three countries’ presidents stressed that they would use each other’s experiences for development and progress. The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in a meeting with Afghan and Pakistani presidents after the end of the trilateral meeting voiced strong support for such trilateral agreements and pointed to the continuation of such meetings. He underlined that cooperation is not limited to security and political issues, but it is a good ground for expanding economic and constructive cooperation between the three countries.
Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan have religious, cultural, and historical commonalities as well as common enemies. Experts believe that extremism, terrorism and the destructive phenomenon of narcotic drugs and lack of conducive grounds for using economic capacities are among the problems which have overshadowed the advancement and development of regional cooperation, and the elimination of these problems depends on the serious will and efforts of regional countries. In fact, as the Supreme Leader underlined, extremism has created many problems for the regional nations and governments and it is also threatening others, particularly those who were the main cause of creating such extremism with their money and policies. It is obvious that in this framework, the United States as the main element creating these problems is strongly hated among the regional people. It is clear that security is an essential condition for development and progress. From this viewpoint, the trilateral cooperation between Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan in terms of security would also have an impact on boosting various economic, cultural and inter-provincial cooperation, especially when the three countries have common viewpoints about various international and regional issues.
At present, Pakistan’s efforts to counter insecurity and the will of Afghanistan to seriously tackle the problem of drug production are among significant moves that should be continued and require regional and international support.
Finalizing the contract for exporting Iran’s gas to Pakistan and the signing of a memorandum of understanding in this regard is also another step forward for regional cooperation.
As the Iranian President, Dr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad pointed out, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan can reach common goals by relying on their commonalities in the area of civilization and culture and organizing a deep-rooted and sustainable cooperation.
Anniversary of Liberation of Southern Lebanon
May 25 marks an epic in the history of Lebanon. Nine years ago on May 25, the flag of victory of Lebanon’s Hezbollah Resistance Movement was hoisted in Lebanon and southern Lebanon was liberated from the occupation of the Usurper State of Israel after 22 years. At that time, the Zionist regime’s army, under the command of Zionist regime’s premier Ehud Barak, unilaterally and hastily pulled out of southern Lebanon and voluntarily admitted to Israel’s failure in Lebanon and in confrontation with Lebanon’s Hezbollah Resistance Movement.
Many pundits believe that the humiliating withdrawal of the Zionist regime from Lebanon’s soil after two decades goes to show the inability and frustration of the Zionist entity’s war machine in confrontation with Lebanese combatants and Hezbollah Resistance Movement. In fact, Hezbollah had turned southern Lebanon into a quagmire for the Zionists. The Zionist regime, for the first time, occupied southern Lebanon in 1978. Meanwhile, the international community reacted to this occupation. The issuance of United Nations Security Council Resolution 425 at that year was due to the Zionist regime’s expansionist policies and forced the Zionists to leave Lebanon’s soil. However, the Usurper State of Israel hatched new conspiracies and stationed a mercenary army, still maintaining its domination on southern Lebanon. Thereafter, in 1982, the Zionist regime’s army launched a wide-scale assault on southern Lebanon, deploying its forces in that region.
The resistance movement announced its existence for the first time in 1982 as the only option and approach for confronting the Usurper State of Israel. During the occupation of Lebanon, United Nations’ muted reaction to Zionist regime’s crimes showed this fact to the Lebanese people that the only way to push Israel’s army from their homeland is anti-Zionist resistance.
The outcome of combats of Lebanese resistance movement after pushing Israel out of Lebanon’s territory in the year 2000, took shape in the victory of Lebanon against the Zionist regime in the 33-Day Lebanon War.
The presence of Lebanon’s Hezbollah Movement in the military and political scenes has turned Lebanon into a powerful country.
Under these circumstances, and on the 9th anniversary of victory of Lebanon’s resistance movement against the Zionist regime’s army, Lebanon prepares itself for the imminent victory of Lebanon’s Hezbollah Movement in that country’s legislative election.
